But blinds go up and stacks go up. It's not rewarding being late it's giving them an equal opportunity to win. If you put a late guy in with a chip stack that is similar to the lowest player you're punishing them just because the lowest player is bad or was unlucky.

Also there is a difference between signing up then arriving late and getting signed up after the tournament starts. For example here I only showed interest in playing poker in mish mash forum and TIAM said I could join the current table. Had he chose to 'punish' me for not signing up he could have made me wait until the entire game is over.
