PBuG and I are working on Dark Tower Mafia, and the trouble is that I can't think of any way to fit in so many important roles (if you've ever read the septilogy you know how many important roles there are). The question I'd like to ask is what is the maximum number of players a game can have for you to play in it, considering the Dark Tower theme as well. I want to see what number is the most comfortable for people. Thanks!

I think I could do thirty, as long as I had played a game with at least 20 of the players going into it. It's so hard to keep people straight when you don't know them.

it was hard for me to get 35, but i'll sign up for anything under 500

19 or 99 of course
If you want to take everyone I think it would be... *counts quick; stops at 37* around 40, if you don't mind having Mordred, Blaine and Susan in the same game (just 2 more characters popped in my mind). I don't know how much is playable for mafia, but I would signup anyways.
What about making 2 or 3 seperate games... one for the youger Roland (Wizard and Glass) and one for books 1-3(5 more characters in my mind...) and one for 5-7? I dunno... (again another character... makes 45).
zu_Faul has some good ideas about blending the books, but you're talking about thousands of years of history here... it depends on what you're going for with the game.
Normally, 24 seems manageable, Good Omens and Checkmate had 32 each but the former is dragging while Checkmate had a LOT of night actions/kills to progress things along... it all depends on your setup. Some players won't do more than 12, of course, which probably isn't what you're going for here...
More actions = more interesting for players = larger allowable size = more hassle for the mods. How's that for unhelpful?
I like 'em big. I'd theoretically play in anything 40 players or less, but lots of people feel different, so you should probably pay attention to the majority.
I too like the idea of splitting up the books into multiple games, if you're feeling ambitious.
OKay, I am NOT splittin the books into multiple games unless it's just, like two games, one doing books 1-4 and the other 5-7. Part of it is because I want to mod a large game or two, and another is because I need to co-mod a large game before I can mod a large game alone.
Now that I think about it, two games would be a good idea because if we do it as one lagre game we might end up with well over forty roles o.o;

I dunno. I just don't like the idea of splitting it into individual books or even two parts. I think it just needs to be put out there all at once, in all of the greatness of the books. It would feel like rape if we split it up.

Yes, splitting the story would be bad, but it wouldn't be worse than a big game of chaos or a game where important roles are missing (and which role isn't important?). But if you can manage a 50 player game without chaos, it would be the best theme ever.
