Although it is talked about in games, has there ever been a game in which the mafia actually have claimed to be a mason group?
I'm not talking about the case where there is a genuine, pro-town masonry in which one of the members is, unbeknownst to the others, mafia. I'm talking about a normal scum group where one (or more) member(s) has claimed to be a mason.
I dont think so. Its very risky, I would imagine. Dont talk about it, tough, try it sometime instead (altough now ill be watching you)

"correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the CHANCE of something happening always 50% (either it will or it won't)?" -LyingBrian in BJs Wild West mafia
And you just know Vis will lynch you when you really are a mason.
And no, never seen a game in which several scum claimed to be a proper masonry. A brotherhood thing which doesn't say alignment I think I've seen though.
In Asterix mafia my scum group claimed to be masons. Of course that's in a Phoebus game where there usually are multiple mason groups. I disagreed with the proposal during the night, but when the other 2 went ahead with it during the day I had to cooperate of course.
It actually worked pretty well for a while until we suddenly both died in the same night.
It works in Phoebus games, because he usually doesn't reveal alignment.
When alignment is revealed upon death it's ill-adviced to do this, although perhaps you could claim the other guy was scum without you knowing.

Super Mario RPG Mafia on MTGN had two mafia claiming to be a mason group (The Hammer Bros.). However, since it was late game, and the entire game was such that many people had links to each other and these links were in symmetrical cycles, the town had little problem picking out the lie.
(I lucked out in that game with a super-good role )
I'd think it might make a decent endgame gambit, but early game it's too risky. One opposing family/serial killer making a night-kill would suddenly put you firmly in the town's crosshairs. And masons are VERY popular nightkill targets, so I think you'd have questions about how you're surviving, too...
In Rock'em Sock'em mafia, I was mafia and sibling with a town player, and my win condition was to survive with my sibling. Day 1, while in danger of being lynched me and my sibling claimed to be a mason group.
The scum discussion the night after was pretty funny.

I don't really think we had much choice, in the situation that we were in. Claiming masons at that point in the game would've been suicide. (And how could the town be expected to believe that Sherlock was part of a mason group?)
And yeah, the Hammer Bros. claim in SMRPG Mafia failed primarily because by the end, process of elimination left no other options. If the setup hadn't been like that, and they had done a better job of playing the mason role, I think they might've survived long enough to make the game close.

Yeah, but what a way to go down !
For now, I'll ask Thoth to come up with reasons why I should be voting for him, and I'd like him to respond to those.

To my defense, it was actually a good claim, the setup just had way too many confirmable people.

Once again, I'm sorry for Dragon Mafia. You have to admit, though, that in a game with dragon slayers as mafiosos, "the dragon that listens to Slayer" sounds pretty scummy.
I dont see any advantage to claiming mason. And furthermore, If one of the mafia died, then the others would all be proved mafia. That's a big reason why not many of you may have seen it...
