A call to... something

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Wed Mar 15, 2006 3:59 pm

Aye, as my time with a mini is coming up pretty soon, I'm faced with a horrid decision.
I have a game set up, but I was struck with a lovely idea that mafia would be fun in another language... namely spanish. However, sig advertisement hasn't worked to well, and at this point I only have 3 biters. So I'm putting this here in a hopefull not vain hope to get more people, 7-9 are still needed.

If you are scared that you can't write perfect spanish, well guess what? neither can I, nor the three who have contacted me. This game would be as much a learning tool as a mafia game. I personally think that three years of spanish would be sufficient, as long as you understand the imperfect subjunctive and the si clauses. Other than that I can provide some good online dictionaries that will help with vocabulary.

I really hope that I'll get more people for this, because I not only think it would be a really fun game to play in, if not hard, but also a fun game to read, for those of us who can read spanish.

Oh, and it would be STRICTLY SPANISH, with only injected phrases common in other languages, such as deja-vu in English, some terms lke that will be allowed.

Thank you, and I really hope I can muster some participation here!

Sounds cool. Too bad I only know two years worth of Spanish.... or at least I did at one time.

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose?

I used to go to a hispanic church, a while back. Unfortunitly I only managed to pick up a few words. If using a translator is allowed, I might be interested. But like Mike said. Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Again, as mike says it does defeat the purpose. Yes dictionaries are allowed, of course... but to write in english and translate in bulk, and vice versa just seems like playing another game in english to me... or might as well make "bad grammer mafia" where you have to translate your texts 8 different times and back to english before you post them.

Really, I can't enforce that nobody uses a translator, I just feel that the game would be cheated if that happened. :(

A Bad grammer mafia sounds like a very fun idea! It would not only be fun to read but it would be very interesting for the players as they attempt to get their messages across to one another. :)

I concur with TradaPIB's statements. Everybody gets one language they have to translate into and back again!

But I cant speak Spanish. Does listening to Mars Volta get me an honorary and rather useless /in?

My Spanish is nowhere near good, but I think this seems like a really interesting idea, and good opportunity for learning, so

Hm, I might make a setup for this "bad grammar mafia". This sounds like something my style :) Unless of course Tamuz wants to claim the idea.

A shoehorn is literally a tool used to fit feet into inflexible shoes. Figuratively it's used to mean any kludgy solution. For instance, using duct tape to make a vacuum hose from the wrong model vacuum cleaner fit on your own vacuum. I don't know how biters became shoehorns though.

Mmm, it seems bad grammar mafia has more love than Spanish... so I believe I'll look at it this weekend, sorry Vis. If I don't have the coherence/ganas to make it this weekend, I'll turn it over to you... unless you want to comod with me in the mini thats coming up. It is my first mini so I would be very receptive to such a deal.

Tamuz, I think that a game everything-Spanish would be very interesting, although you can wish to obtain someone(s) for pimping in other sites also, to obtain more an ampler selection of the people who know to really speak the language...

Aye Flay, I have sites where I could get spanish speakers... but I really don't like the way they play, it really isn't good for this site, as in no logic and 100% dependance on night roles... and yes I have tried to change them, which gets me NK'ed every N1.

Mmmm St. Patties & mafia will make a good brainstorm.

I'm taking Spanish 1, so my spanish isn't very strong at all. I would definetly play provided I'm allowed to say things like "Soy un cop." I may need some Spanglish.

...although I'm severely tempted by the Princess Bride Themed mafia. I like the thought of endless WIFOM jokes.

QFT. If I get offed in one of my games, I will refrain from joining another one just to make sure I can sign up for Princess Bride Mafia. (:

I can be /in for a Spanish game as a fairly fluent speaker. The one thing about getting people for this Spanish game is that if someone doesn't have much experience with the language, you might find that posts are sparse and lacking because of the language barrier rather than gameplay. You'd need very dedicated players who are willing to stick around and post a lot despite ability level.
Sup, later.
