Best General Mish Mash Game 2016

Object

Contestants have their shot at winning by matching 12 "strangers" one-by-one to phrases about their identities!

Setup

Before the start of each game, the strangers will submit an identity that associates them. These identities can be anything such as hobbies, current/previous jobs, interesting things you did in the past/things you want to do in the future, etc. An identity should be specific enough that one can reasonably expect it will only apply to the stranger that submitted it. Strangers should submit identities that they feel comfortable being questioned about/discussing (see: Questioning mechanic below).

Rules

The contestant chooses an identity and tries to match it to the correct stranger. (Official guesses should be in

bold text

.) Either the selected player or the host can post whether the contestant is correct or not. If the contestant is correct, the next unmarked row of the Match Attempts table is marked correct. If an incorrect match is made, the top row of the Match Attempts table is deleted. The game is over when the contestant has made 12 match attempts (and there are no remaining unmarked rows in the Match Attempts table).

Contestants will have no formal deadlines for in-thread activity. However, if 48 hours have gone by with no activity, the host will prod the contestant. If a contestant is unreasonably inactive, the host reserves the right to replace them or end their round early.

Assistance

The contestant starts out with 4 Lifelines & 1 question to assist them. They will continue to accumulate questions to use throughout the game. If the contestant correctly guess 8 strangers' identities, whatever lifelines & banked questions they had left are revoked. Questions, however, still accumulate thereafter.

Questioning

Before each attempt at an identity match, the contestant has the opportunity to select an identity and stranger, and then pose a question to that stranger about that identity. If they are questioned about their own identity, the stranger should answer truthfully. If they are questioned about someone else's identity, they should still answer as though it is true (as plausibly as possible.) It is thus up to the contestant to evaluate that stranger's explanation.

If a question is uncomfortable for a stranger to answer, a stranger may post (or PM the mod) some variation of "Decline to answer." The question will be refunded to the contestant.

Lifelines

• Tri-Identity: The contestant chooses an identity and the number of strangers to choose from is narrowed down to three: the correct stranger and two incorrect strangers. The player must choose the correct stranger out of the three that matches the identity. Once the contestant has chosen to use their Tri-dentity, the contestant must solve that identity before attempting to solve any other identity.
  
• Double Dip: The contestant can select two strangers to match to one identity; if it matches either, a correct guess is counted.
  
• Mistaken Identity: You get one free pass if you make an incorrect guess.
  
• Split Identity: Take the identities and split them up into 2 groups. I will then divide the strangers into 2 groups, and tell you which groups belong together. A group must have a minimum of two people, and they can be uneven in numbers. If you use Tri-dentity after using this lifeline, the number of strangers to choose from is narrowed down to three from that group only.

Bonus Lifeline

• Phone a Friend - This lifeline will become available to a contestant that has yet to make 8 total correct matches and has made 3 consecutive incorrect matches to keep the game from getting stagnant. Select a Scummer that is not a stranger in the current round (please pick someone you can reasonably expect won't mind participating.) I'll PM them to let them know you're phoning them. They can weigh in on any two identities that they'd like to in this thread (who they think likely does or doesn't have it and why.) They will receive credit for you phoning them on the leaderboard regardless of the outcome.

The host will occasionally invite blobbed Strangers that have not recently submitted identities to do so via PM. Blobbed strangers are more than welcome to submit several identities at their convenience/without prompting by the host. If you don't want to be a stranger anymore, please /out.
- If a Stranger has any preferences such as "I would not like to participate in back-to-back rounds" or "I would love to be in XXX's round" or "Please (don't) use this identity for this particular contestant," the host would be happy to accommodate.

For real though, gonna take a break between rounds to try to resolve how to make the game easier. Previous contestants are welcome to /re-in.

Pretty sure I'd like to run the next round with a change to the scoring system. If the contestant manages to match all the identities with only one incorrect match (Mistaken Identity), then they win $500,000. Incorrect matches after that point reduce your winnings. As such there'd no longer be a mechanic for walking away early with $$.

Kinda based on what Cheery was saying, I'm curious about implementing an Identity Check mechanic in which the contestant selects a particular stranger and identity and asks them a question, which they must answer as if it is truly their identity. An example for last round would be selecting xofelf and the identity "Watched the same film every day for a month" and asking which film it was or what the reason for watching it that many times consecutively was. Could be a lifeline or an opportunity the contestant gets prior to each match attempt.

A phone a friend lifeline sounds potentially fun but I'm trying to figure out how to practically go about it? Was thinking that the contestant can choose any MafiaScum user that isn't a stranger that you have yet to guess the identity of for that round, and I'll invite them to come to the thread and weigh on what they believe are possible and impossible matches. Would be up to the contestant if they want to pick someone that is friends with a particular contestant or just someone that seems generally knowledgeable. If that person doesn't respond in like 48 hours then it could default to, like, the next eligible person in the contestant queue.

I sadly haven't seen Whose Line is It so I'm unsure what Haschel is getting at.

I used to play World of Warcraft a while back. After some time, I hit the level cap and joined a guild, and eventually worked my way up to a higher position. Eventually, I had a nightmare that I would get unjustly kicked from the guild, which came true a week later. I'm pretty sure one of the people that made the guild hated me for some reason. I could never get back into the guild and eventually quit wow

It was horrible. It involved all of my friends dying in a horrific war-like setting, and they were the opposite side of me. Shortly after they ended (I spent countless sleepless nights, mind you) some of them went to the other team. I got so upset that I left the battle and sat quietly to myself for hours, while they tried to comfort me.

Deval Patrick came to my high school when I was a senior. I was kind of in a phase where I was exploring really mild rebellious activities just because I realized I could, I guess?
