/quote]. Subsequient posts quoting it spread the mistake, and the closing quote tag ends up closing the incorrect quote (namely, the inner one that was left unclosed)

Yeah, the original post from upward did snip a quote, but removed everything after the point it was snipping from, including the closing tag; then added commentary below. Notably, this put the added commentary inside the spoiler=, since its closing tag was also removed.

By adding back the closing quote tag, the spoiler= is also contained (since closing the outer containers also closes all the inner ones*) and the commentary became nonspoilered as intended.

when you delete a post, there's a checkbox you can tick titled "delete permanently". If you tick it, it doesn't fuck up the post numbers (but presumably, the post can never be recovered by site mods).

Also I'm thinking about using this sorcery as a fake fact for Day 3, which will be themed around magic.
