Hmm, if we're talking about site appearance features, what about something that visually merges double-posts UI-wise (i.e. you get a post-number-and-date heading for each post, but the username, avatar, etc. only appears once)? That'd help prevent spamposters using up so much vertical space, making the thread less daunting to read.scum· scam · seam · team · term · tern · torn ·town-

Or an edit feature that allows a form of editting in which you can only append? In post 775, callforjudgement wrote:Hmm, if we're talking about site appearance features, what about something that visually merges double-posts UI-wise (i.e. you get a post-number-and-date heading for each post, but the username, avatar, etc. only appears once)? Seems helpful"Let us say that you are right and there are two worlds. How much, then, is this 'other world' worth to you? What do you have there that you do not have here? Money? Power? Something worth causing the prince so much pain for?'"
"Well, I..."
"What? Nothing? You would make the prince suffer over... nothing?"-

tbh
what I do to counteract spamposting (mostly when I'm modding)
is add ppp=200 to the url
it extends the posts per page to 200
so while it doesn't change the fact that people are spamposting, it makes counting votes a hell of a lot easier and less tedious
So like
playing that might make a difference
when it comes to modding I doubt that would make as much as a difference.| here.GTKAS-

Having read Kison's big post last page, I think that an app is sorely needed.
I play on my phone but it is definitely in the realm of slog. I actually play ToS as well when I want a little bitesize mafia experience that doesn't require as much thinking. I need to be in the right frame of mind to play my games here, and something to unwind is awesome.
What we have going for us is years of game balance and years of varied non random setups. Which is something all the competitors lack. There is currently a project where the open setups are being overhauled, which once done provides a platform for making a phone and tablet based version of mafiascum that runs automated open games. Either with on demand, or a host chooses situation. We have the setups, we run them in marathons. With a chat style system we take out the most time consuming part of marathons that will tighten up the run time (refreshing) as a current marathon runs probably a little too long for mobile.
10 minute / 2 minute deadlines
Open setups
We don't have focus on role madness
We have balance
We stay unique, while also provide an entry for players to site, microtransactions help with the server costs.Don't @ me.-

Are we seeing lots of people leave during their newbie games? Or do they sign up but never play?In post 781, RadiantCowbells wrote:Want to point out our issue isn't getting people to come it's getting them to stay-

It's also possible that they quit after playing their first game on site.In post 784, Vaxkiller wrote:Are we seeing lots of people leave during their newbie games? Or do they sign up but never play?-

Are you sure that wouldn't be good for the long term health. In post 783, Mulch wrote:Ranked queue= I might quit
But I don't like the ranked. We play a long time in a game, so for me the one game counts, not how I do overall.
And games are too diferent.
Heh, I looks good you won 2 game in a row, not so great when it gets out in one of them you self-hammered (okay as scum) and won only by luck.-

Fair enough but I think a lot more can be done retention wise.In post 786, Kison wrote:New users coming inisan issue. I'm not just guessing on that one(or on the SEO decline) - we review numbers at the start of each month.
Retention could also be an issue, but I haven't found a solid way to track that yet.2019 stats: Town WR 76.7%, overall WR 81.667%, 1 scum defeat involving a major mod error in lylo vs 8 scum wins.-

I don’t understand your point here. A ranked queue would basically be normal queue but with tracked rankings somewhere (how many points people get for victories can be discussed obv, it’d have to be discussed if you got more/less points for certain roles etc.)In post 787, StefanB wrote:

The biggest thing is it’d be easily quantify-able to see who wins more and who loses, so people could easier show off their e-peen
Keep in mind this is coming from a guy who was in like bottom 50 when someone came up with a system for rankings a while back.
The big thing too would be harsher punishments in that queue for flaking.
If retention is not an issue this is irrelevant. As it stands I think people realize that in the end the games they play here don’t matter so they leave and go somewhere where there is a record stating they are legit at this game.
I guess what is the argument for not having one?@thesupertriomusical on Instagram, come see it if you’re in LA area, I wrote it!-

And the scummies don’t count, they were designed for an earlier site meta where games were 100 pages or less. It’s ridiculous that we now expect judges to judge multiple 200+ page games.
We are at a site that cares about statistics more than most sites yet we have no ranked queue or any official stat tracking.

I think one thing to promote retention would be to lower the duration of the days. I would be willing to bet you lose most players in their first newbie game during day 1.
Also, a ranked queue is just going to lead to toxicity, in my opinion. Like, if a player ends up ranked number 3 in the forum, how do we now make it so that this player is in games that match his (now, fully measured) skill level without just forcing the top 9-21 players to play literally every game together? It will lead to elitism and smaller queues.
I also think we need a fully formed theory of the ranked system including the method of scoring, etc. before anyone can really say "Yeah, this works" How do we score a mafia player? Is it pure win/loss? Do they earn points for lynching a player of the other faction? Do you earn more points by playing against someone better than you? Does it account for luck at all?
Even if I thought the ranked system was a good idea, the discussion would need to begin with "Here's a ranking system, let's work out the kinks." not "let's have a ranking system"I've only made one good post, and don't you dare accuse me of doing it again.
