theres this girl who bleeds from all over her body and she's trying to make it to the ocean but she doesn't have enough pills

basic synopsis

Ryota - guy
Neko - Witch
Kana - Witch

Neko/Kana need to take a pill every 24h to prevent themselves from dying
they are running out of these pills - they only have 10 and it's not enough to last them until they reach the ocean so they let themselves start bleeding and dragging the time between pills out to ration the pills
Ryota gives Neko a pill and she recovers but there is an accident and she burns the remaining pills - they have no pills left
Kana took her pill yesterday and starts bleeding out
Neko/Ryota decide to go to a factory find more pills
Kana forsees a future where Neko dies - cut to pieces - she begs Neko not to go - tells Ryota not to let Neko use too much magic because she will lose precious things.
Neko writes a letter for Ryota telling him that she is going to sacrifice her own life and distract the witch guarding the factory so he can get the pills for Kana
Neko distracts the Witch while Ryota ignores her request and charges in
The witch defending the factory cuts up Neko
Ryota realizes Neko is Kuroneko as her shirt is cut off - he realizes she has forgotten him from before due to her use of magic - causing the loss of her memories of him.
Ryota charges in from behind the witch but he's too late - she kills Neko.
End of episode

uhhh....while this was definitely not a "cheerful" episode, i'm not sure the it was exactly "gloomy"? the main characters are put into a bad situation, but they seem to be fairly hopeful/determined and there are a few humourous moments too. in particular the last words in the episode was "No, not yet, we're still okay," so that's also hopeful

maybe.....65?? i don't know....

so, i tried to watch this. it is not working. i thought i needed an account, so i made one. nope. then i saw the "this is not available in your region because european people can go fuck themselves" tag. so i tried using a proxy, but that isn't working either. i tried to find a different source, but surprisingly i cannot.

i'll maybe try again later/tomorrow as this is decently irritating, but yeah.

okay so first, rant incoming.

my fucking god, i love living in europe. i tried crunchyroll, through an incognito tab, through a proxy, nothing. okay fine whatever. a different site directs me to a different streaming service. except it's also blocked in europe. no big deal, jump onto a proxy, nope fuck you, in order to get your 30 days free, input your credit card information. thanks no thanks. i can't find any other streaming service.

so i big brain go on youtube. there is actually a video uploaded of that episode. except it's potato quality. okay that's fine. also it's in a small rectangle box instead of the whole screen to avoid copyright. fine i can go fullscreen. except the sound is completely garbled too in order to avoid the copyright strikes. and it's dubs with no subtitles. which fine, i can watch that, i'll survive. except my english listening comprehension is pure fucking shit. so i had to rewind every 2 minutes to figure out what in the ever loving fuck are the characters even saying.

there are a couple of haha funney moments. sure. but the whole episode is just sad? like it ends on a dark note too? i took a peak at the next episode synopsis and sure they make it out or something but this is the episode that's given as a clue and i think we should go by it?idk if isis was thinking this episode on how it relates to the rest of them, and i hope not, but this whole thing is like... decently gloomy?

oh, actually, now that you said it, i went back to listen, those are the actual last words, i just couldn't understand them, hmmm...

i don't think that's like, decently enough to offset my points much? at first i was thinking 80-85, probably 82, but now i wanna go a bit lower...

tl;dr - at first i thought 82, but due to an error of me not understanding the fuck are the characters saying, i think????? 78???? ugh i still don't wanna go under 80

whoops! i think it's best to disregard me then. on reflection, i think i would put it higher too. i can see how this episode could be trying to show how everything goes wrong and everything our main characters try goes wrong too, and that's very gloomy. although, i still don't think i would put it at the very very high end because i've seen anime/movies that really hammer it in with emotional music and emphasis on a character's sadness if they really wanted to make you sad. i guess, i didn't ~really~ feel like they were doing that in this episode?? like i said, i don't know and i'm completely serious i think datisi has a really objective eye for these things so i would rather him go with his gut take. that will be my contribution

i was going more by "what" is presented than "how" it is presented - agreed it wasn't completely tragic/melodramatic whatever but the subject matter still seemed pretty, er, Not Good? and even the "positive" parts, like him realizing who the girl actually is (what are names, i don't know) seemed more gloomy/somber than actually happy or cheery?

agreed if we take presentation into account i could go like, idk. 75. i can see a world where this is a 75.

although, i vaguely remember from an earlier clue isis is a big-picture kind of person so maybe the answer isn't how sad is this episode, it's how sad does this make isis feel?
