Welcome.

You are a member of the Town Council of Anytown, a small close-knit town in the heartland of some country. Which town - heck, which country - isn't really all that important.

A woman stands before all of you. She is wearing a dark blue dress with an entirely white rose in the center. You notice that she is unnaturally beautiful. How'd that happen?

"Hey, guys.

"There is a horrible, dire threat facing this town.

"I have received word that this very 7-person council has been infiltrated by 2 stereotypical mafiosos, who have decided, for some reason, that it would be a really good idea to kill all of the rest of you. You're going to have to start killing each other - some might even say "lynching" - and hope you get them before they get you.

"Their motives aren't really clear to me. It's almost like they were playing a game or something.

"Anyhow, they don't plan to kill anyone in the middle of the night -- don't worry about that stuff. In fact, it's almost as if the night won't even take place.

"However! In exchange for this, beginning tomorrow and every other day, you'll have to lynch one person off a three-person list they choose.

"I hope this makes sense. Save the town! I wish you the best of luck, and URKKKK----"

You all take a look at her -- quite dead. How unfortunate. Looks like the seven of you are going to have to go it alone here.

Do not quote any private communication to which you have access. This includes game-related PMs, instant messages, and QuickTopics. Quoting time stamps from any private communication is also forbidden. Paraphrasing is okay.
If it is not visible to the naked eye, do not post it. This includes, but is not limited to: invisible text, tiny text, encrypted text, and text hidden within tags. Spoiler text, however, is allowed, as long as it is used within reason. For cases of breadcrumbing where you aren't sure, please PM me beforehand.
If you have the ability to edit your posts, don't use it in my game.
Blue
is reserved for the moderator. All other formatting is fair game with the provision that you do not impersonate me. Seriously. Don't do it.

Activity

Prods will be issued to players if they have not posted within a 48-hour period; they will have 24 hours to respond in the game thread before I search for a replacement. I will also send reminders on request as long as at least 30 (1 Day, 6 Hours) hours have passed since the player's last post.
Players who have been prodded 3 times are subject to replacement without further notice. Player-requested prods do not count toward this total.
If you anticipate being away for at least 48 hours, please PM me or post a V/LA notice in the thread with the expected date of your return.

and Nights

The first day will last 2 weeks. Subsequent days will last 10 days. Deadline extensions will be granted only in extreme circumstances.
This is a
nightless
game.
Lynches occur through simple majority (50% of living players + 1, rounded down). If no majority is reached at deadline, plurality rules will apply. Once majority is reached, no further votes or unvotes will count.
Votes and vote revocations must be bolded (e.g.,
Vote: Fujiko
and
Unvote
). Unvotes are preferred but not necessary when switching votes (e.g.,
Unvote, Vote: Fujiko
). Use of the vote tags (e.g., VOTE: Fujiko) is optional, but preferred.
All players, including the lynched player, are allowed to discuss in twilight phase until I post the death scene. Dead players may make one "Bah!" post that contains no game-related content.
As soon as the death scene and updated vote count is posted, the next day has started.

Moderator Actions

Flavor is for entertainment purposes only and has no significance in the game.
For minor questions or vote count errors, please bold your concern in the thread. For all other issues, use PM.
Pretending to break the rules or exploiting loopholes in the rules will be considered breaking the rules.
Any situation not covered above will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

days the mafia will give me a list of three players. These are the only three players able to be lynched that day.
Odd days function normally.
Lynches are compulsive. If no majority is reached at deadline, plurality rules will apply.

I reserve the right to add, modify, or remove rules as necessary. I will notify you of all changes in the thread.

Please PM me if you need clarification on anything in the rules.

Biggest rule: Mafia is just a game, so play to win, but more importantly, play to have fun!

Four of you turn to look at Toroid. Just then, you hear a knock at the door.

"Pizza!" you hear the muffled cry from the other side.

Since dealing with the rest of you doesn't look like a particularly great idea at the moment, Toroid rolls over to the door and opens it.

He is greeted by a large, multi-tentacled beast, and devoured in one bite.

Horrified, the five of you remaining run to the door and slam it shut. You see a long tentacle snake through the broken window and grab that dead woman from page 1. The creature then shuffles off, mumbling something about doughnuts. Whew. Guess it's full.

The replacements look around at each other. They briefly consider starting a band, but decide to just get out of there. Luckily at that exact moment, a rope comes down through the newly-formed hole in the ceiling. They climb it to the waiting helicopter that whisks them away.

Any thoughts about the moderation? (As opposed to the shtick, which was pretty bad and used mainly for my own entertainment.)
I realized partway through that the plurality rules I linked to didn't actually specify what to do in place of a tie, which was very bad. (The plan was to use the first vote.)
Also, should I have been giving vote counts where the vote didn't change? There were stretches of a few pages where the only change was someone voting then unvoting before I caught it.
