Like I said in the other thread, I am from Maryland & moving back to the east coast next week, so I could probably make this.

I won't be on site much after Monday, so I might need to be prodded when this approaches.

If you can get to Washington DC, there's a Megabus terminal there that drops off in Durham NC (which is like 15 minutes from Raleigh). Megabus tickets are like $35

How long we stay will depend on my job, but we will definitely be there for at least three days. Also, recommendations of sights to see in the city would be good, Grimm hasn't been to any big city besides DC so I wanna show him around.

We should do a meta mafia game that lasts over the entire meet. Everyone gets role cards before showing up and the game continues in real life day/night cycles. eh, Eh? Would have to submit actions to the mod over phone or something. Or ms.net, who am I kidding.

I did this for the Reckoning, it was a success.

When we ran it, we planned out enough time for there to be 24 hour days. We ran it where votes had to be made in-thread, votecounts would be done in-thread, and there were some "real life power roles" (ie Glork, the dayvig who had to take two shots of vodka before firing at someone) and flips would be done in thread. You can just talk about the game IRL.

I would probably opt out of an Always On game. It was fun for like the first 36 hours and then it got really frustrating and caused unnecessary conflict/drama, IMHO.

Eh, the drama was mostly during the first bit. By the end of it, watching the final four sit in groups and discuss for hours was pretty enthralling. I think the biggest issue was that we tried to mix alcohol and the game, which led to some flaired tempers.

Game of Thrones is very similar to diplomacy. The distinguishing factor, I think, is how turn orders resolve, and the existence of the three power tracks. One gives you power to decide ties and act first, one gives you might in military battles, and the other gives you the ability play more "special orders" and sneak looks at the upcoming threats to the board. The game also has built in strategic alliances/rivalries. Really fun, but you have to have thick skin, alliances are made at broken pretty frequently.

game comprised entirely of random chance. It's needlessly complex... there are something like 300+ individual pieces and the rulebook is basically a miniature novel, but let me summarize the game for you:

- Everybody is working together to either seal a certain number of gates (by rolling dice) or closing a certain number of gates (by rolling dice). If that doesn't happen, then everybody rolls dice together to try and beat the last boss.

- Each turn consists of moving to a space on the board, drawing a card, and hoping the game doesn't decide to cosmically fuck with you that turn. You have no control over whether something good or bad happens to you. There are literally cards that just go "lol you die" and you have no way of stopping it.

if it only took like an hour to play, it'd be okay, but the fact that it's like a 3-4 hour game makes it unbearable. It's essentially an entirely random game where things happen to you that are completely out of your control but hey at least it has cool HP Lovecraft flavor.

I played Arkham Horror for the first time last night and I really enjoyed it. Complaining about a board game for using too much random chance is ridiculous; you could say the same thing about pretty much any board game.

The game doesn't allow strategy though

Okay, that's true. I once about murdered esuriospiritus because she was "drunk" and hammed it up really well that she could read InflatablePie as a cylon and so the whole game I was alternating throwing him and our other roommate in the Brig whenever possible (our other roommate literally confirmed that he was a cylon by being the only one playing a sabotage color during a skill check and he was the only one who had that color) then TROLOLOL NOPE, esurio was a Cylon all along and Pie wasn't and our other roommate was just doing "aggressive mind games".

I seriously almost threw my glass across the room.

- Big ups to Matt & Trollie for hosting this clusterfuck. I know from experience that hosting a meet is no cakewalk, and hosting it across four floors + a basement + a roof cannot be any easier. You guys were excellent hosts, though, and really went out of your way to make sure we had a good time. Trollie's #DrunkMafia with the blacklights and the cool effects was perhaps one of the most unique things I've ever seen at a meet, and it was pretty awesome. I know you guys went without certain things you wanted in order to make the whole of the group happier, so thank you kindly for that, and please come visit us soon <3

- I loved the people, but holy shit, Baltimore sucks >_>; Between driving around for an hour trying to find a damned grocery store and then DGB/Grimm almost getting mugged, I think I had my fill of the city.
