I've got aLost BoysLarge Theme game (based on the film) that could use a second set of eyes. Being a theme game, it's got a little bit of out-of-the-ordinary to it, so an experienced reviewer would be best (one who doesn't want to play, of course!).

Someone who would rather balance than play a Nightless game is welcome to help me sort out the last details ofWar in Heaven, a mini. It may end up being an Open Setup, but I want to talk to someone privately about it before I decide to reveal all the altered mechanics/roles.Retired as of October 2014.-

Depends on what they're wanting to check; if it's an eye for what MIGHT go weird and wrong later, so they can think about potential answers now, that's still valuable. Obviously straight balance questions are useless at this point.Vi wrote:I think it's a bit late for you to be asking someone to check a setup that's already runningRetired as of October 2014.-

You're probably looking for Theme Test Market if you're trying to find out if people want to play your ideas, or the newer and less-used Theoretical Game Discussion, if you don't mind talking about the setup in public. Either could also, in theory, be used to shop ideas to other people to run if you don't want to wait that long.-

I'm pretty sure someone's done one, or at the least claimed it. Check the archives for Coney Island and Theme Park...12Keyblade wrote:I had an idea today for a Large Theme game based off of the televison show "The Mole." I'd like it very much if a few reviewers might take some time to tell me if the mechanics would work well, as it's kind of odd and I'm not sure how to make it better. Thank you!
::edit:: Though that may have just been the Mish-Mash game. Archive is sort of hard to discern, because of the player mole.

No, sorry, I didn't mean to imply that at all. Game themes are reused all of the time, I was just letting you know of an example so you could look at what was done right/badly in that game.12Keyblade wrote:So does that mean I can't do mine? The setup, etc is different.
Also, if the theme has been donereallyrecently, you may find either burnout from players or possessiveness from the moderator (especially of they wanted to do a series). I don't think that'll be a particular problem in this case, though.Retired as of October 2014.-

There was a recent thread where they talked about something like that, but no game I know of.Taranski wrote:Thanks for the help yabba and empking.
I have a question but I don't know where to ask;
I remember there being a game in which the game started off as 2 separate games, but then after a certain day, the 2 games merged into one. Can someone link me to that game?always maintainedhad two threads for most of the game, but I think what Taranski might be thinking of is Tri-Cities Mafia: North York, Durand, and Fort St. John, plus Central Park (the final destination).Last edited by Mr. Flay on Mon Nov 09, 2009 3:02 am, edited 1 time in total.Retired as of October 2014.-

You may be thinking of the Mini Normal Queue, where you can come up with your own setup (within limits). Open Queue allows you to gain experience with the day-to-day work of modding without having to know how to design a setup from start to finish.Nobody Special wrote:(Please don't laugh at the Newbie.)
In just under a month, I can Mod. I'm going to go into the Open games queue (primarily as it looks the least intimidating as far as set-up).
Question: If I'm running a standard, open-set-up game, does it need to be reviewed?Retired as of October 2014.-

Same problem as the all-SK games; looking for an individual anti-town member is HARD, without the buddying/bussing clues to look for. It tends to end up reducing to "Who would want to NK Joe?" and that's not really enough to work with. I fear it would be really random/tedious.Retired as of October 2014.-

Well, you can't be the 'official' reviewer for a game, no. But that doesn't mean you can't use your experience to help somebody look at a setup, poke holes in their theme, etc. We just like to have somebody with a bit of experience at that type of game 'sign off' on it before it's run, to avoid problems later.Andrius wrote:
Bah. So, I can't review anything until I can mod, right?Kise wrote: Mod the same type of game.
That sucks, if true.Retired as of October 2014.-

Need somebody who doesn't want to play but would like to poke holes in Succession Mafia, my next Large Theme. This game WILL have alignment switches and some non-standard roles, and I'd like another set of eyes to make sure I haven't left a huge breaking strategy in the middle of it.

Yes - it may take longer if there's a shortage of reviewers, but there's certainly no rule against it.Aranneas wrote:Hi there. Can we get games reviewed if we can't mod them yet? Also, remember that Ether is the new Normal Game reviewer. She won't necessarily check your balance, but she's appointed by mith for right now to check for normality.

Could use somebody who DOESN'T want to play Succession Mafia II to kick some ideas around with - I don't have the setup finalized in the 'roles and rules' stage yet, because Weird Mechanics are eating my brain. Need a reality check...
No rush. This'll probably start in April.Retired as of October 2014.-
