Killthestory protested and struggled as he was dragged up the stairs to where he would meet his end. The voices defending him fell on deaf ears; the majority had decided this, and majority rule was king. The deed was done quickly. Despite Killthestory's earlier struggling, he knew it was pointless to fight, and within seconds the rope was secured snugly around his neck. The rest was like clockwork, a ritual perfected over endless years of acceptable execution.

A hush. Death was uninteresting, normal, routine, what the crowd waited for was the announcement of whether their decision had been the right one. Of course, there were some members of the crowd that already knew the outcome. Still others were unconcerned with the result, content to have removed a problematic member of their number. They would have other chances later, a few mistakes were barely a bump in the road, after all.

From beneath the structure in the center of town, where Killthestory's body had been whisked away, a voice spoke. It wasn't terribly loud, but carried easily in the square.

"Killthestory has been lynched. He was a

Town Doctor

. Goodnight."

Three members of the gathering shared a snicker. Unnoticed in the general din of townspeople chatting and departing, they headed to their homes for the night, mingling with the crowd.

At the crack of dawn, the citizens of the town filed obediently out of their homes to the town square. Fortunately for some and unfortunately for most, there they found a body. A single bullet wound was the obvious cause of death, and the scene, the villager sprawled in a pool of their own, still-fresh blood, was Hollywood perfect.

From the wooden structure in the middle square, just a few feet away from where the body lay, the same voice as last night spoke in an almost conversational tone.

The gathered villagers stretched and yawned, preparing themselves for another day of arguing, pointing fingers, and death. chilledtea's body, having served its purpose as a five-minute spectacle, was respectfully lifted into a black hearse by the same dark-suited figures that had dragged Killthestory to his death the previous night. Though the treatment was different, all knew that the bodies would end up in the same place eventually.
