i unlocked the thread while posting the day-beginning post, and so started the day, while i still had a tab open editing the first post (because i needed to post the day-beginning post in order to link to it in that window), but it had the "lock this topic" checkbox still checked, since the topic was still locked when i opened that tab, so when i posted the OP update, i inadvertently re-locked the thread, and i didn't notice until i noticed nobody was posting.

tl;dr: zakk was careless and/or too efficient for his own good.
