Mini 1456: Revenge (Game Over!)

Hello, folks. I'm your friendly neighborhood back-up mod. As always, my flavor contains no clues or hints.

The night was silent - a stifling silence that gets right under your skin and shakes you to the core. There isn't any rest for a man on a night like tonight. Wearing the darkness like a clock, Ankamius decided to go for a midnight stroll. As he approached the street corner, he saw a group under the lightpost.

"Ah, I see you chaps are as restless as I. Mind if I join you?"

"Not at all."

It always seems to be at the most inopportune of times that Ankamius had stopped to reflect upon the set of events that brought him to the present. How frusturating. It is maddening to run through a set of events, seeing every circumstance and decision that was made, and realize that the conclusion would have been the same no matter what. How could he have known that a calm walk through the local woods was really a calculated divergence from the beaten path? What could he have done when the knife sank into his back? The stony face of determination and rage on his good friend - were there warning signs? No. They had hidden it well. There was nothing he could do then and nothing he could do now, as he lay cold and dying. But...maybe there was? If he could just write the name - he coul....he c...

I'm in Eastern Time Zone - I can't speak for Sora. It doesn't truly matter, though, as day will end when the post that opened up the day is exactly two weeks old (which you'll be able to tell no matter what your time zone is set at on MS). Just flavor, no hints.

Javier Michael O'Connor never had it easy. I mean, just look at that name. Imagine the amount of bullying he went through as a child. After such a tough upbringing and with clearly sadistic parents, he never had much of a chance. It wasn't long before he turned to a life of crime.

On this particular day, though, his time was up. Cornered and with nowhere to go, JMO leapt forward and pulled a bloody knife from his jacket. Ducking, a member of the town kicked the knife out of his hand and sent it flying. With a murderous cry, JMO leapt after the knife only to turn around and find a gun in his face.

"Don't move. Just give it up - no one else has to die today."

Glancing frantically from side to side, JMO examined his options. He sighed. He had none. Well, that wasn't quite true. He could still choose whether or not to face the rope. The knife in his hands sunk into his stomach and his guts spilled onto the ground.

Again, all flavor is just that...flavor. No hints or clues.

The detective known only as Nul was onto something. These killings - they had things in common. If he could piece together the threads, then he could find the murderers and save the town.

With that in mind, he wandered down to the local pub. All times are drinking times when a detective is on a case like this. The way that JMO kid had stabbed himself - that type of stuff shakes even the strongest of men. As Nul walked into the pub, he didn’t notice the person who had been following him for the last three blocks.

Time to get back to work. The trip to the pub wasn’t entirely for pleasure. The owner was a mine of information if given the right monetary incentives. Nul was directed to the alley behind JMO’s house as a place of interest. The bullet that made contact with his knee when he got there was less than expected.

“The owner of that pub doesn’t take sides. He takes money. Did you really think you could outspend the mafia? That was your second of two strikes. Your first strike was ever investigating this at all. So, as I see it, you have one more strike to give. Answer me this: are you done with your investigation?”

Nul whimpered as he accepted his fate. He was a lot of things, but a coward wasn’t one of them. Maybe his death would help the town find the culprits responsible for this spree of killings. Nul closed his eyes.

“Pity.”
