The Rules

ONE: FUNDAMENTALS
- All site-wide rules apply. Read and respect them.
- There is no personal communication outside the forum postings (regarding this game) unless your role specifically allows it.
- Do not quote your Role PM or any private communication (either real or fabricated) with the moderator, co-moderator, backup-moderator, or fellow players. Paraphrasing your Role PM is acceptable.
- Be courteous and respectful to all your fellow players and the moderating team.
- Play to your Win Condition.
TWO: DAY PHASE
- All groups with Private Topics (PTs) will be able to converse during any Day Phases.
- Votes must be in the format of VOTE: PlayerName or
  Vote: PlayerName
  , or they shall not be counted. Abbreviating someone's name is acceptable, so long as I can discern who you were voting for without trouble. If I think it should count as a vote, it will.
- Unvoting is not required, but is much appreciated.
- Once you have reached a simple majority (half of all living players plus one) that person's fate is sealed and they shall be eliminated. Unvoting cannot change their fate.
- Once a player is eliminated the game enters twilight until I arrive and post a death scene. All players may continue to post during Twilight.
- Please post at least once every 48 hours. If you fail to do so, you will be prodded. If you fail to respond to said prod within 24 hours, you will be replaced.
- If you get three or more prods, or fail to respond to a prod by posting in thread within 24 hours (or by PM if at Night), I will begin seeking for a replacement (this means the third prod functions like a notice that you are racing the search for your replacement.)
- A deadline extension may or may not be granted; just ask.
- If no player reaches a simple majority by deadline - no elimination is the result
- Votes and Unvotes shall not count in Twilight.
THREE: NIGHT PHASE
- Nights will last 48 hours.
- If I do not receive your night actions - they do not happen.
FOUR: CAPITAL OFFENSES

The Great Council

King Jaehaerys I has passed away unexpectedly in his sleep. The line of succession is unclear - as great lords and ladies, you have been summoned to Kings Landing to restore order to the Realm....

The Iron Throne can not stay empty for long, you have seven days to select the next King of Westeros.

Game Conditions:

Vote for the player you wish to crown King. With twenty one players alive, eleven votes will select a monarch - plurality rules will apply at the deadline.

The King shall have the following abilities;

King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men

You may execute a player during the day - this will end the day and replace the normal voting mechanism - this ability can not be used on consecutive days.

Lord of the Seven Kingdoms

You must select players to join your small council which will aid you in ruling the realm. Players may not refuse appointments to the small council.

Protector of the Realm

All abilities except for killing abilities will not work on you. Killing abilities will not work on you if the Kingsguard are loyal to you.

Flavor

The Lord of Dragonstone is the ruler of the stronghold of Dragonstone upon the island of Dragonstone in Blackwater Bay. The ruler commands the loyalty of several vassal houses established on the islands of Blackwater Bay.

Dragonstone is the ancestral seat of House Targaryen. It was the westernmost outpost of the Valyrian Freehold. Prior to Robert's Rebellion, the island served as the seat of the heir apparent, known as the "Prince of Dragonstone". The two titles were often, though not always, synonymous. The first Prince of Dragonstone was Aenys I Targaryen, son of Aegon I, while the last was Rhaegar Targaryen.

After the War of Conquest, the ruler of the island and the castle of Dragonstone happened to be the heir prince of the Iron Throne, titled as Prince of Dragonstone, until the fall of House Targaryen.

Flavor

The Hand of the King is the chief advisor to the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and is the executor of the king's command in the Seven Kingdoms.

Duties of the Hand include commanding the king's armies, drafting laws, dispensing justice, and generally managing the day-to-day running of the kingdom. The Hand may act on the king's behalf when he is indisposed, and sit the Iron Throne while doing so. The Hand also sits on the small council and will run the council if the king is not present.

The office typically makes the Hand the second-most powerful man in the kingdom next to the king, though some Hands have had the reputation of ruling their kings.

It is considered by some to be a difficult and unglamorous job of great responsibility. A popular saying goes, "What the king dreams, the Hand builds," but the lowborn say, "The king eats, and the Hand takes the shit." Many able men have failed in the office throughout history.

Hand of the KingThe Hand of the King is Chosen by the King to execute his Will.

Lord Commander is the title held by the most senior sworn brother of the Kingsguard, the seven champions and protectors of the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, the king on the Iron Throne. The title has also been used for the leaders of the Queensguard and the Rainbow Guard.

The Lord Commander commands the other six knights of the Sworn Brotherhood of the Kingsguard, and he is a member of the small council. The Lord Commander is appointed by the king, with seniority and ability being factors in the selection.

The spacious apartments of the Lord Commander are located on the highest of the four floors of White Sword Tower, which is part of the Red Keep. During meetings of the Kingsguard, the Lord Commander sits at the end of the shield-shaped table in the Round Room, in the tower's first floor. Whenever they gather, he ritually asks his Sworn Brothers who is protecting the king. The Lord Commander is expected to update entries in the White Book.

Lowborn such as Ser Duncan the Tall and bastards such as Ser Robert Flowers, Ser Addison Hill, and Ser Marston Waters have risen to become Lords Commander.

Lord Commander of the KingsguardThe Lord Commander of the Kingsguard is chosen by the Ruling Monarch to defend their life.

They hold the following abilities:

First of Seven

Each day you must select six players to join you as members of the Kingsguard to defend the King.

Players may not refuse appointment to the Kingsguard.

This number will decrease as the number of players is reduced.

You may not select members of the Small Council or the King to be members of the Kingsguard.

Brotherhood of Arms

Kingsguard members will have access to the Kingsguard PT.

Kingsguard members will notify the mod by pm if they wish to defend the king. The King is immune to nightkills if all members decide to defend the king.

Coup in the Castle

If 50% or more Kingsguard Members decide to overthrow the King - they may murder him at night and install his chosen successor onto the throne.

If all Kingsguard Members agree to overthrow the Monarchy - they may murder him and his successor. The Small Council will be role blocked from committing any actions on this night. New elections will be held on the following day.

The master of coin is the chief financial adviser of the king and is a member of the small council in King's Landing.

Duties of the master of coin include keeping account of the receipts and expenditures from the royal treasury, receiving reports from royal officials, supervising the collection of taxes and custom duties, borrowing money, managing the royal treasury and supervising the three royal mints. The master of coin oversees a large number of offices and positions in the royal bureaucracy including the four Keepers of the Keys, the King's Counter, the King's Scales, the officers in charge of mints, harbormasters, tax farmers, customs sergeants, wool factors, toll collectors, pursers and wine factors.

Master of CoinThe Master of Coin is responsible for managing the financial affairs of the Kingdom.

They hold the following abilities:

Each day you may make investment decisions on behalf of the Crown

You alone will know the contents of the Treasury and the incomes and debts of the Crown.

The master of laws, later called the justiciar, is the king's advisor relating to the administration of justice and is a member of the small council in King's Landing.

The first master of laws was Lord Triston Massey, appointed by King Aegon I Targaryen.

In 49 AC, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and his small council summon Lord Prentys Tully of Riverrun to court to serve as master of laws. After King Jaehaerys reaches his majority, he dismisses Lord Prentys in favor of Lord Albin Massey, one of the first lords who had sought out King Jaehaerys during his "exile" on Dragonstone. Lord Albin still served as master of laws by 54 AC.

By 80 AC, Lord Rodrik Arryn had served as master of coin and lord justiciar for twenty years. He left court in 80 AC, following his marriage to Princess Daella Targaryen, and was replaced in the office the following year by Prince Aemon Targaryen, possibly until his death in 92 AC.

Master of LawsThe Master of Laws is responsible for enforcing the King's Justice.

They hold the following abilities:

The master of whisperers or mistress of whisperers is the spymaster for the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, the monarch on the Iron Throne. He or she is charged with gathering intelligence from informants in the Red Keep, in King's Landing, around the Seven Kingdoms, across the narrow sea, and other places. Unlike the other positions of the small council, this title was not created by Aegon I Targaryen.

Tyanna of the Tower, the most feared of King Maegor I Targaryen's wives, served her husband as his mistress of whisperers. It was said that speaking secrets in the Red Keep was foolish, as rats and other vermin were her spies. She tortured many enemies of the Crown, including fellow wife Alys Harroway and her many alleged lovers; all but two confessed to adultery.

Master of WhisperersThe Master of Whisperers is responsible for finding the secrets of the King's Enemies.

They hold the following abilities:

Each night they may have a player followed

They will know where the player visited during the night.

Grand Maester is an important position in the government of the Seven Kingdoms. The Grand Maester is the personal maester to the Iron Throne and the Red Keep, and is considered a senior member of the Order of Maesters. He is a learned man wise in history, science and medicine who also provides counsel. The Grand Maester sits on the King's small council, which oversees the day-to-day operations of the realm in the name of the King.

On several occasions in history, a Grand Maester has also been appointed as Hand of the King, serving in both offices at once.[1] The Grand Maester is also responsible for leading the council in the Hand's absence, and appears to be the next ranking member after the Hand.

Grand MaesterThe Grand Maester is responsible for advising the King and providing potions and treatments for ails.

They hold the following abilities:

Healing Salve

Each night they may prepare a healing potion for a player.

This must be done in the first twenty four hours after nightfall.

A player receiving a potion must choose whether to drink it - if they choose to drink it they will be protected from one night-kill attempt on that night.

Small council positions in the hands of the mafia faction may unlock special "bonus" abilities that are not known to you but will be known to the mafia faction - a king must choose his advisors wisely.

In the event of the death of a small council member, the following procedure will be followed:

Prince of Dragonstone - The King chooses a new heir.

Lord Commander of the Kingsguard - The Kingsguard elect a new Lord Commander from amongst their ranks

Any other Small Council Member - the King may give their duties to another member of the small council - no member of the small council may hold more than two roles at a time.

Flavor

Aegon I Targaryen, also known as Aegon the Conqueror and Aegon the Dragon, was the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and king on the Iron Throne, having conquered six of the Seven Kingdoms during the Conquest. The dragonlord was the founder of the ruling Targaryen dynasty of Westeros.

Aegon was tall, broad-shouldered and powerful in appearance, with purple eyes and short-cut silver-gold hair. He was very charismatic and commanding. During his Conquest he typically wore a shirt of black scales into battle and wielded Blackfyre, a bastard sword made of Valyrian steel. His crown was a simple circlet of Valyrian steel, set with big square-cut rubies.

Aegon was seen as an enigma even to his contemporaries. He was a solitary person whose only friend was Orys Baratheon, who was widely believed to be his bastard half-brother. The king was a great warrior who only rode his dragon, Balerion, for battle or travel and never entered tourneys. Aegon remained faithful to his sisters and left governance in their hands and only took command when necessary. While he was harsh with those who defied him, he was generous to those that bent the knee.

Queen Visenya Targaryen was the older sister and wife of King Aegon I Targaryen, the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. Her younger sister, Rhaenys, was married to Aegon as well. Visenya was a dragonrider, and rode the dragon Vhagar.

Like her siblings, Visenya possessed the classical Valyrian features: long, silver-gold hair, which she often braided or bound up in rings, and purple eyes. Queen Rhaenys Targaryen was the youngest sister of King Aegon I Targaryen, the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. Both she and her older sister Visenya were married to Aegon, and it was said that she was Aegon's favorite. Through her son with Aegon, Aenys I, the line of the dragonkings continued, with fifteen of the sixteen Targaryen kings being direct descendants of Rhaenys and Aegon. She was a dragonrider who rode the dragon Meraxes.

Rhaenys was a beautiful woman with silver-gold hair, which she kept long and wore loose, purple eyes, and a slender body.

Rhaenys was kindhearted, graceful, playful, curious, impulsive, and given to flights of fancy, with a mischievous aspect to her personality. She loved music, dancing, and poetry. Rhaenys loved flying even more; it was said that she spent more time flying on her dragon, Meraxes, than her siblings did combined.

Aegon's Landing

The war began in 2 BC when Aegon Targaryen and his two sister-wives Rhaenys and Visenya landed with fewer than 1,600 men at the mouth of the Blackwater Rush next to three hills. Upon the highest hill, Aegon started construction of the Aegonfort, a wooden motte and bailey fort as his first claim to the mainland of Westeros. The Targaryens were supported by Houses Celtigar, Massey, and Velaryon.

House Rosby yielded Rosby to Rhaenys, while House Stokeworth surrendered to Visenya after Vhagar used dragonfire on the roof of Stokeworth.

Aegon's first test came form Lord Darklyn of Duskendale and Lord Mooton of Maidenpool, who joined their power and marched south with three thousand men. Aegon sent Orys Baratheon to meet them on the march, whist he descended on them from above with Balerion. After both lords were slain, Darklyn's son and Mooton's brother, Jon Mooton, yielded their castles and swore their swords to House Targaryen.

Queen Visenya placed a Valyrian steel circlet, studded with rubies, on her brother's head and Queen Rhaenys hailed him as "Aegon, First of His Name, King of All Westeros, and Shield of His People."

Battle of Gulltown

After being crowned at the mouth of the Blackwater Rush, King Aegon sent his fleet commanded by Daemon Velaryon to take Gulltown, the city of the Vale of Arryn. Daemon was accompanied by Aegon's sister, Visenya Targaryen.

The Arryns hastily assembled a fleet to meet the Targaryens. Their fleet was augmented by a dozen Braavosi warships.

The Targaryen and Arryn fleets met in the waters off Gulltown. The Arryns were able to destroy the Targaryen fleet and Daemon was killed. Visenya's dragon, Vhagar, burned the Arryn fleet in response. The battle was a tactical draw since both fleets were destroyed, but a strategic defeat for the Targaryens since they were unable to take Gulltown.

Flavor

The council met for six days and discussed fourteen claims. Prince Enchant promised madness and death and became an early leader before players realized what they were voting for - afterwards he was never seriously considered.

On the third day of the council there were three frontrunners - GuiltyLion, a charismatic rogue who claimed to be a long lost bastard son of the old king, Dannflor the charming favored prince, and Lady Lambdadelta, whom many said dealt in fire magic and dark sorcery. Her faction quickly gained support throughout the day to become the frontrunner but when the morrow came it dissipated like summer mist.

A cunning rogue named Baltar cast his claim and with stunning speed quickly rose to the front of the ranks - by the evening of the fourth day fully a third of the lords gathered supported his claim - some whispered it was due to promised bribes in the form of favored postings.

The counter reaction was swift and suddenly Princess Junkochan of Starfall, a beautiful blue haired girl of 22, said to be the most fair and beautiful lady of the realm rose as an alternative surpassing Baltar's support on the fifth day and stood close to ascending the throne.

Finally after hours of tense negotiations between all parties - on the Sixth Day of the Great Council a decision was made.

It is hereby declared with the support of all Lords Paramount and Lords Vassal of the Seven Kingdoms,

Shea, First of His Name, will be Crowned King of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm

Burning of Harrenhal

Aegon marched northwest to the Gods Eye and Harrenhal, but he was attacked by House Hoare twice on the south shore of the Gods Eye. The Battle of the Reeds was a Targaryen victory, but they suffered heavy losses at the Wailing Willows when two of King Harren the Black's sons crossed the lake in longboats with muffled oars and fell upon their rear. Balerion fell upon the victors as they were crossing back across the lake, burning Harren's longboats and sons as well.

Harren summoned the river lords to defend Harrenhal, but they rose against the Hoares under the leadership of Lord Edmyn Tully of Riverrun. One by one the river lords joined their strength to Aegon, with Edmyn being the first to do so. Suddenly outnumbered, King Harren the Black took refuge in his supposedly impregnable stronghold. Aegon met Harren at the gates, under a peace banner to parley.

Aegon: Yield now, and you may remain as Lord of the Iron Islands.
Yield now, and your sons will live to rule after you.
I have eight thousand men outside your walls.

Harren: What is outside my walls is of no concern to me.
Those walls are strong and thick.

Aegon: But not so high as to keep out dragons. Dragons fly.

Harren: I built in stone. Stone does not burn.

Aegon: When the sun sets, your line shall end.

Descending from the sky atop Balerion, Aegon used dragonflame against the great castle, and Harren and his sons died in the burning of Harrenhal.

The next day Aegon accepted an oath of fealty from Edmyn Tully, and named him Lord Paramount of the Trident. The other river lords did homage as well, to Aegon as king and Edmyn as liege lord of the riverlands. The melted swords of Harren's ironborn were sent to the Aegonfort.

Conquest of the Stormlands

While Aegon dealt with Harrenhal, the greater part of his host crossed the Blackwater Rush heading south for Storm's End under the command of Orys Baratheon, with Queen Rhaenys Targaryen accompanying him astride Meraxes. While the Storm King Argilac Durrandon gathered his bannermen to Storm's End, pirates from the Stepstones raided Cape Wrath and Dornishmen from the Red Mountains attacked the Dornish Marches.

Lords Errol, Fell and Buckler, bannermen of Argilac the Arrogant, surprised the advance elements of Orys's host as they were crossing the Wendwater, cutting down more than a thousand men before retreating back into the trees. Rhaenys unleashed Meraxes and set the forest ablaze, killing Lord Errol.

Word of King Harren's end having reached Storm's End, Argilac rode north to meet his foes in the field. After being advised through Rhaenys's reconnaissance, Orys fortified a strong position on the hills south of Bronzegate and waited for Argilac's stormlanders.

In what became known as the Last Storm, Argilac attacked the Baratheon and Targaryen forces during a howling gale. The Storm King and his knights broke through Orys's center during their third charge, but they then faced Queen Rhaenys. Meraxes's dragonflame killed the personal guard of Argilac, who was thrown from the saddle. Orys offered him to yield, but Argilac cursed him instead. After Orys slew the wounded Storm King in single combat, the stormlanders threw down their swords and fled.

Argilac's daughter, Argella Durrandon, barred the gates of Storm's End and declared herself Storm Queen. The castle's soldiers, however, eventually delivered her to Orys's camp. Orys took Argella as his wife and chose the words and sigil of House Durrandon for the new House Baratheon. Aegon named Orys the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands and made him Lord of Storm's End.

Following the death of Harren the Black at Harrenhal, Aegon sent his sister-queen Visenya to demand the submission of Crackclaw Point. Its lords understood they had no chance, so they laid their swords at her feet. Visenya took them as her own men and they would owe no fealty but to the Iron Throne. They bent the knee to her without qualm, and in return she promised them that they would be direct vassals of the Targaryens.

Meanwhile, the two great western kings made common cause and assembled their own armies. From Highgarden marched Mern IX Gardener, King of the Reach, with a mighty host from the Reach. Beneath the walls of Goldengrove he met Loren Lannister, King of the Rock, leading his own host from the westerlands. Together they commanded the mightiest host ever seen in Westeros: an army fifty-five thousand strong, including over five thousand knights. The Two Kings did not linger at Goldengrove, marching north.

Advised of their coming in his camp beside the Gods Eye, Aegon gathered his own forces and advanced to meet them. He commanded only one-fifth the men and was able to more quickly move his host. At the town of Stoney Sept, both his queens joined him with their dragons, Rhaenys from Storm's End and Visenya from Crackclaw Point.

The Field of Fire

The two armies met in the plains south of the Blackwater, near the present Goldroad. While the Two Kings hoped to flank Aegon and then smash Aegon's center with knights, the Targaryens established themselves in a defensive crescent.

The allies' charge began to break the Targaryen spear lines, but Aegon and his sisters took to the air on their dragons, Balerion, Meraxes, and Vhagar. The dragons began to set the dry field aflame on all sides, especially upwind of the Gardener and Lannister armies. Lord Mooten's Targaryen forces were safely upwind, allowing them to finish off allied soldiers who emerged from the flame. King Loren rode through the flame to safety when he realized Aegon would be triumphant.

The dragons killed 4,000 men of the combined Lannister and Gardener army, among them King Mern and all of his sons, grandsons, brothers, cousins, and other kin. The knights of the Order of the Green Hand were wiped out. Lord Armen Peake and his sons perished. Another thousand men perished from sword and spears and arrows while 10,000 men suffered burns. Of the Targaryens less than 100 were lost while Visenya took an arrow to the shoulder. One nephew of King Mern survived the battle, but he died of his burns three days later. When he died, House Gardener died with him.

The battle, the only time in Aegon's Conquest in which all three Targaryen dragons took to the battlefield at the same time, become known afterward as the Field of Fire.

The King Who Knelt

Aegon next planned to secure Oldtown, the Arbor, and Dorne, but while at Highgarden he learned that Torrhen Stark, King in the North, had crossed the Neck with an army of northmen some thirty thousand strong. In response, Aegon and his queens gathered the lords and knights who had already yielded to House Targaryen.

When Torrhen's northmen reached the Trident, they found a Targaryen host half again their size south of the river, including men from the Reach, riverlands, stormlands, and westerlands. Some northern lords wanted to attack, while others wanted to fortify Moat Cailin. Brandon Snow offered to assassinate the sleeping Targaryen dragons. With Harrenhal and the Field of Fire in mind, however, Torrhen instead sent Brandon with maesters to negotiate a peace. The following day Torrhen crossed the Trident and yielded to Aegon, becoming Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North. Torrhen has subsequently been known as the King Who Knelt.

Sharra made Aegon an offer of marriage and alliance if he named as his heir her son, Ronnel Arryn, the young King of Mountain and Vale, but was refused.

Despite Aegon's refusal, House Arryn felt secure in the Vale. Visenya Targaryen, however, flew Vhagar to the Eyrie's inner courtyard, and Sharra found sitting on the knee of Aegon's queen her son Ronnel, who asked to fly on the dragon. After flying three times around the Giant's Lance on Vhagar, Ronnel became Lord of the Eyrie and Aegon's Warden of the East.

When word of Aegon's Landing reached Oldtown, the High Septon locked himself in the Starry Sept for seven days and nights, seeking after the guidance of the Seven. On the seventh day, the Crone allegedly lifted her golden lamp and showed that Oldtown would burn if the city opposed the Targaryens. Manfred Hightower, Lord of the Hightower, decided not to oppose Aegon by force of arms and House Hightower therefore was not involved with the Field of Fire.

When Aegon and his host approached Oldtown they found the city gates open and Lord Hightower riding forth in submission. Three days later in the Starry Sept, the High Septon anointed Aegon with the seven oils, placed a crown upon his head and proclaimed him Aegon of House Targaryen, the First of His Name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm. This marked the official beginning of Aegon's reign.

Mathblade worked feverishly at the table over dozens of ingredients, so many back orders needed to be made, Junkochan really left things a mess when she left.

Meeting with the spies at night through the evening, meeting with the small council throughout the day, he had barely any time left over to sleep yet he was expected to be the local CVS pharmacy too.

He deserved raise but that miserly purple pokemon would only go "arf arf" when asked for more money. Maybe he should just go on strike - show them how much they all needed him.

Realizing he couldn't really get tonight's orders done without pulling another all nighter, the old man took a swig out of the caffeine bottle, suddenly he felt incredibly alert - like he could do anything. Yes Yes YEEEEEEES!

A trial by combat is a means by which a party can prove their innocence when accused of a crime in the Seven Kingdoms. In lieu of a standard trial where a lord - or a council of them - hears testimony from the involved parties and makes a ruling, one or all parties may choose the option of a trial by combat.

Only highborn noblemen have the right to request a trial by combat: smallfolk do not possess this right. Noblewomen apparently also have the right to request a trial by combat but are not expected to fight themselves.

If a highborn is accused of a crime, at any point during the trial held by the local lord he can demand his right to a trial by combat. This right is held to be so inviolable that even a lord that is fully convinced that the accused should die would be hesitant to simply deny such a request (if it is made in public, at least). Even members of the royal family or high officials such as the Hand of the King would feel incapable of denying the request if it was made publicly.

In a trial by combat the accused may represent themselves in combat or, if unable (such as if they are female, injured, crippled, a dwarf, or otherwise incapacitated), may ask for a champion to represent them. The presiding lord may, at least, demand that they pick a champion from currently available warriors, i.e. instead of allowing them to name a champion currently located on the far side of Westeros, attempting to try to delay the trial by weeks.

A trial by combat does not, necessarily, need to be fought to the death. It is fought until one man yields - though if the accused is representing himself he would fight to the death to avoid a certain execution, and even the champion of an accused man will often fight to the death due to potential reward from the accused if he wins. The fight can also end if the accuser withdraws the accusation, or the accused confesses.

The victorious party is held to have had his or her case judged fairly by the gods (be it the Seven, the Old Gods of the Forest, or whatever they worship) and has proven their innocence in the eyes of the gods. Hence, if the accused party is victorious, they are cleared of all charges. If the accused or their champion is defeated, however, then they are considered guilty and condemned to death. While in theory the gods will favor the righteous party, most often the winner tends to simply be the strongest, the quickest, or just the luckiest.

Trial by Combat RulesA player may challenge any other player to trial by combat during the day. If it is accepted - the players will gather their weapons and fight to the

death

until reasonably satisfied. [There is a 5% chance of either player dying in a trial]

Unowen is a six foot seven northman who stands there waiting for him, he wears no armor but the fur pelt of a mammoth he slayed himself when he was seven years old on a hunting trip north of the wall. His massive muscles bulge as he lifts a massive two headed broadaxe that measures over seven feet long - it is still stained with the blood of many victims. He licks the blade - clearly looking forward to this fight.

The two challengers bow to the King who nods his assent. They rush at each other with their weapons outstretched. Murder in their eyes.

Unowen's broadaxe smashes through Firebringer's sword in one swing - shattering it completely. Firebringer panicks like a startled seal and takes off for the opposite end of the arena, tossing aside his armor as he runs.

After a five minute foot chase, both men are exhausted and the bout is declared a draw.

Result: No One Dies

The two combatants could not look more different as they squared up facing each other in the arena;

The earth shook as Baltar moved, a man well over seven feet tall weighing twenty four stone and wearing at least half that again in armor - heavy steel platemail with chainmail underneath. His long wicked bastard sword stretched six feet in front of him and he held it menacingly at his opponent. "Shut up clown I'm going to rip your head off and turn it into a toilet bowl"

"Are you sure you don't want to drink a little first? You sound kind of like a moron when you're sober"

Baltar charged at Drapion with a roar - sword swinging down impossibly fast on the jester who seemed to be chugging his wine.

at the last second Drapion stepped aside and threw a tomato directly into Baltar's face, the fruit smashed right into his eyeguard and the blinded giant flailed wildly with his sword at the fleeing clown.

Unable to see his foe who continued to pepper him with tomatoes, the two began playing a game of Marco Polo until Baltar finally collapsed from exhaustion after fruitlessly chasing after Drapion.

Seeing that the danger had passed, Drapion promptly chugged the rest of his wine and passed out drunk on the field of battle.

Result: No one died

The First Dornish War was the second of the Wars of Conquest. House Targaryen began the war in an attempt to conquer Dorne, the only one of the Seven Kingdoms that had successfully resisted the Targaryens during Aegon's Conquest.

During Aegon's Conquest, Queen Rhaenys Targaryen was sent to conquer Dorne in her brother's name. Instead of confronting the Dornish spearmen guarding the Prince's Pass in the Red Mountains, Rhaenys flew over the pass on her dragon Meraxes to Vaith and Godsgrace. She found the castles abandoned an continued her journey to the Planky Town, where only women and children remained. At Sunspear, the seat of House Martell, she found Meria Martell, the aged Princess of Dorne, waiting in her otherwise abandoned castle. Meria defied Rhaenys, stating that they would neither fight nor kneel. Rhaenys warned the Princess of Dorne that the Targaryens would return "with fire and blood", but Meria replied simply with "You may burn us, my lady, but you will not bend us, break us, or make us bow. This is Dorne. You are not wanted here. Return at your peril." Rhaenys departed, but the Targaryens subsequent made no direct attempt to conquer the harsh deserts of Dorne, instead focusing on their main conquests in the heart of Westeros.

As such, Dorne was the only kingdom not to be conquered by Aegon I Targaryen in his initial conquest.

Whilst the prince was absent - whispers grew at court that he was consorting with dark shadow magicians from Asshai and secretly working with the Triarchy to usurp the throne. Some even said that he may have had a hand in killing the old king and that he had been preparing the City Watch to carry out a coup.

As the list of those who suspected the Prince grew - it was clear that he had few if any allies at court and he was tried in abstentia for crimes against the Crown. On the sixth day of his trial - a majority of the Lords Paramount found Johnny guilty of High Treason - stripping him of all lands, titles and income and sentencing him to exile forever on penalty of death.

Flavor

Andres made one last patrol of the Royal Apartments before retiring for the night - his trusted lieutenants stood vigilant at the door. The Red Keep seemed quiet tonight - more so than usual. The battles of the previous day had worn on everyone and tensions were beginning to boil over. The message he received from the informants played over in his mind - there was vital information waiting for him in Flea Bottom - information that Lukewarm & Mathblade may have died over. The message was short - just a time and a place to meet. In the solitude of his chambers Andres began to set aside his white cloak and armor - arms and chest scarred from years of battle emerging from beneath the chainmail. It had been nearly two dozen years since he last saw combat in Dorne but it seemed a lifetime ago. Putting on a hooded cloak to disguise himself; he slipped out a secret passageway into the bustling city below.

The Bear's Claw Inn smelt like bear piss - filled with the seediest sort of character drunk on cheap ale and wine that burnt like hot oil when you tossed it back. Being the cheapest tavern in Flea Bottom - it was always packed from wall to wall, exactly the sort of place one could meet unnoticed in a sea of people. Andres found his informant in a state of utter inebriation slouched against the wall; sitting down opposite the man, he kicked him in the shins hoping to wake him from his slumber. When this prompted no response, Andres lifted the man's head from the table and began to shake him - a foamy froth began to dribble from his mouth - his eyes staring lifelessly.

Suddenly realizing the danger - Andres began to rise from his seat but it was already too late - two large goons grabbed his arms from either side - pressing down upon him and immobilizing him. Their daggers worked quickly and he had little chance to call out for help in the crowded room. In a few minutes he laid slumped across the table as well - another lifeless corpse.

Andresvmb was killed on Night Three. He was aligned with the

Trial by Combat

The Jester and the Mountain Pt. 2

Baltar fumed at the memory of being humiliated by that stupid clown - stumbling around like a blind man as the tomato juice ran all over his face. Smelling like a pizza for weeks afterwards.

The thought of him being made to look like a fool by that bumbling halfwit boiled his blood - a reputation as a stone cold killer that had taken years to cultivate completely shattered. Where people used to tread gingerly around him in fear and anticipation - now everyone just snickered and laughed - he could hear them whispering tomato man behind his back. There was only one way to make things right - he had to make an example out of that stupid clown.

This time Baltar stepped into the arena wearing no armor, dressed in just a loincloth - all of his impressive muscles on display. His chiseled chest and bulging biceps seemed out of a cartoon - shining with a golden bronze tan beneath the hot midday sun. Powerful legs shaped like tree trunks rose from the ground and ended in an ass worthy of a Roman bust. Broad powerful shoulders scarred with cuts from long ago gave him a commanding presence - for a moment the crowd quieted to a hush as they oohed and aahed at this impressive specimen of a man. He lifted his longsword towards the King in a salute and then faced his opponent.

"So when I make you into a pizza this time I guess you want to be naked style huh?"

Baltar ran like a bull toward the clown in the distance - moving with impossible speed and fluidity for a man of his size.

Drapion stood there waiting and laughing, as Baltar closed to almost within striking distance the clown threw a dagger directly at his face. The blade missed by a few centimeters and wound up firmly lodged in Baltar's throat; he collapsed on the ground choking on his own blood. The crowd gasped audibly as they watched the dying man on the ground fighting for his life. In a few minutes it was all over.

Trial by Combat

Firebringer, Lord Paramount of the Reach, Master of Coin, The Goldspinner was keen to regain his honor. After being thoroughly embarrassed by Unowen during the last duel, he knew he had to pick someone easier to fight. Carefully studying the collected group - he settled on FG Tarly, one of his lord vassals who ruled over Horned Hill. Firebringer knew that his lord vassal would not embarrass him in front of the collected company and there would be little fear of death since the two were childhood acquaintances.

After a series of negotiations between the two men - it was decided that they would engage in a game of tic tac toe - with the loser being exiled back to the Reach in disgrace.

For five hours the men battled back and forth - upwards and downwards - no matter how they flipped the board between them, neither could score a win. After the seven hundredth game ended in a draw, it was decided to call an end to the contest as everyone was already bored out of their minds.

FlavorDannflor the Dashing had a reputation for being the most charismatic knight in King's Landing. It was said that he had hundreds of admirers whom would love to fall into his arms but his heart belonged to only one. When she left King's Landing into exile - he joined the Kingsguard and took up the White Cloak - devoting his life to something else - dashing the hopes of many a young maiden.

One night as he stood watch at his usual post - the guilt of what he had actually been doing finally was too much for the young knight to bear. Too many whispers grew inside the keep that Dannflor had been working on something other than protecting the King. Putting aside his white cloak - he took a step out onto the ledge.

Enchant the Purple stepped into the ring, his voice boomed throughout the Arena as he drew forth his sword which promptly came ablaze in the dawn's light.

I have traveled farther than any man or woman here and forgotten more than any of you could ever know.

I have dueled with the fastest swordsmen of Bravos, navigated the deepest mazes of Lorath, bedded the most beautiful maidens of Lys.

I have learned from the wisest scholars of Myr, bartered with the cleverest merchants of Pentos, my tapestries still hang in the hall of the High Prince of Norvos.

I have partied for a thousand nights in Tyrosh and fathered half a generation of bastards; the women there still talk of me for I have left them all wanting.

I have battled against the most powerful sorcerers of Qohor and I have beaten the Triarchs of Volantis at Cyvasse blindfolded.

I have sailed beyond the Jade Sea, I have walked through Asshai by the Shadow, I have seen the burning fires of Valyria and the Doom.

I have died a hundred times over in the last year alone - Death is like a Spanish woman to me, I do not fear her or any of you.

The audience feel silent at this challenge - except for a clown who rushed out before any others could react.

He raised his hands up to the heavens in a plea.

May the Stranger take me away from this place!

He rushed out at the Wizard with his bare hands, rushing towards the flaming sword that seemed to loom ahead for him.

There was a flash of light that blinded everyone as the two figures collided in the center of the arena

Trial by CombatSeeing the flash clear from the Arena, the crowd was stunned to find both combatants completely unharmed.

After the clown exited from the Arena, a new challenger arrived - FG Tarly stood six foot five, a man who had learned the way of sword and chivalry from the age of three, been knighted before his eighth nameday and fought in dozens of tourneys in his lifetime.

He raised his sword toward the Magician standing at the center of the Arena in a challenge.

I don't know where the hell you think you're from but I am the Lord of the Horned Hills.

My sire and my grandsire ruled over these lands and my sons will rule after I am gone.

I see your flaming sword and fancy words but that doesn't mean anything where I come from.

My House Words are "First in Battle", sure I got beat to it by some random clown but I'm not sure ya'all actually fought.

Enchant smiles and turns to him. He drops his sword into the sandy floor and raise his arms up into the air.

Seven massive columns of flame burst out from all around him, swirling into the air. The heat from the sudden firestorm turns the arena uncomfortably hot.

Each column turns its head towards Lord Tarly, the flames coalescing into hydra heads each as large than an ox.

Seven flaming heads turn towards Lord Tarly and they roar as one - the sound deafening in the air.

He quickly thinks better of it and runs as quickly from the arena as possible

flavorLady Lambdadelta strode into the Council Chambers with all the confidence of a hurricane, breathtaking in her beauty and power.

Days of arguments had finally come to a head. She walked behind Datisi and placed her hands on his shoulder with a smile. Her perfume tickled his nose as she whispered something in his ear before addressing the others.

Milords, I thank you for your service to the realm but it seems I have finally gotten the support I need to test the loyalty of this man over here.

Datisi turned white at the sound of these words but before he could respond, the Master of Coin and the Princess of Dragonstone rose from their seats in protest.

This is preposterous! Datisi is a valued member of this council and has been working tirelessly to root out traitors and villains, we've found not a hint of treachery in his wise and sage council! How dare you come in here and spew such slander?

She chuckled at this interruption and slid across a small sheet of parchment. Her smile beamed from ear to ear as the lord councilors eyed the seals affixed to it.

Unfortunately the last bits of support I needed have just come in and with the support of a majority of the Lords Paramount, I have a writ of execution for your dear Lord Hand. Shea I suggest you work on finding someone new to run the Kingdom because Datisi's services will no longer be available

At her signal two guardsmen walked into the room and took the Lord Hand from his seat, a look of utter disbelief on his face.

flavorThe King looked out from his bedroom at the sea below, mighty waves slamming into the shore.

Shea looked like he had aged years in just a night - the revelation that his most trusted advisor had been secretly working against the Realm was shocking to him and he felt lost and adrift in a storm.

Whispers were growing in the streets that his days atop the Iron Throne were numbered and a growing faction of the Lords Paramount were now adamantly opposed to his continued reign.

Sometimes he wished he could just let it all go, get on Vermithor and fly away across the Narrow Sea and live out the rest of his days as a guest in Pentos or Volantis. Dragonriders were welcome there and would be treated like princes. He would feast from dawn till dusk and be attended to by beautiful courtesans, not a worry in the world.

The duties that bound him to the Kingdom now felt like iron shackles, a responsibility that weighed on him like a mountain.

He had never expected to sit atop the Iron Throne, that was always the task of someone older and more wise. So many others were in the line of succession before him, he had just wanted to fly across the world on his dragon.

He opened his drawer and pulled out his abdication letter, it was something he had written many days ago but never found the courage to submit. Perhaps on the morrow he would find the courage to step down from the throne and from the duties that bound him to the realm

Unfortunately for the King, he never saw the dawn.

Additional Setup Information:

Master of Coin received 1000 - 2000 gold per day to distribute. This could be increased by investing gold for the future which would increase the low/high amount by 30% of the investment total up to 510 additional per day.

They could also borrow from the Iron Bank at a 50% interest rate.

Spoiler: Mafia Bonus Abilities

This setup was based off one of my favorite mafia setups from my childhood; Oval Office Mafia. I am very glad so many of you enjoyed the setup and the flavor.

The town jumped out to a very strong lead early in the game when they managed to find each other and form a very solid townblock early in the game - the first small council had only one mafia in it! It was looking like a runaway townstomp but some luck with an early execution and some very daring investigation shenanigans allowed Datisi to pull his teammates into the exact positions that they needed to occupy on the council in order the execute a coup that would win the game outright. The amount of work Datisi put in to pocketing the members of two different large PTs was just amazing to watch.

On as early as Day Four when VP Baltar suffered a tragic dueling accident - the mafia team were within striking distance of winning outright. If Dannflor/Eiralox had not completely flaked - they could have won with a mis-elimination on one of the townies that were vulnerable and completely taken over the small council by assassinating the king and possibly using the potion to kill another councilor. Once Mastina ascends the throne she can unlock the jailkeeper kill for the mafia as well as execute to control dayplay.

Unfortunately a series of mistakes at this point led to the mafia team losing control of the narrative and Day Five was incredibly exciting to watch play out - the tide turned and the mafia had no chance to recover after that.
