HE TOWN is entirely Vanilla except for one player. This player has a role that is extremely powerful when in the right hands. However, if he dies, the Town automatically loses. Now what the role actually
is
remains a secret to the town, unless he makes his presence known....

HE MAFIA is entirely composed of Goons but is given an additional factional ability. Every night after the first, the Mafia gets to kill one player
and
rolecop one player.
T
HIRD PARTIES do not exist in this game.

The Vanilla Townie role PM is
Alignment: TOWN.
You win when only Town-aligned players are alive
and
the Town Power Role is alive.
Role: VANILLA.
You have no special abilities.
Other mechanics
:
The Mafia factional abilities cannot be affected in any way; all kills WILL go through and all role investigations WILL be accurate.

The Mafia does NOT get to investigate or kill on Night 1. This has been factored into balance and is intended to foil any N1 luck-based scum win. (However, note that Night 1 is NOT skipped.)

For simplicity, when the game begins one random living Mafia member will be given "godfather" abilities: complete power over both of the factional night actions (and if he dies, this power will be transferred to another random living Mafia member). This "godfather" is no different from the other Goons in any other way.

Mafia daytalking is permitted.

No Vanilla Townie will ever receive special communication outside of the game thread (i.e. there is no "Amnesiac Cop", "Friendly Neighbor", "Neighborizer", or any similar role).

The game will end early if such is fair.

Game notes:

I think this game was won by a reckless town that ended up being right enough times, especially when following a mole who was quite reckless himself, and when unimpeded by scum.

I say reckless because of the lack of consideration for not lynching. One thing in the rules that many of you missed was that the power role could not be bulletproof. Lynchproof, possibly, but I really expected everybody to have the mindset that lynching or forcing a claim of the PR was a guaranteed Town loss. But you went ahead and lynched one person after another.

And the above is part of why Fate was able to drive scum lynches without pulling suspicion from scum. You all lynched people so recklessly that (given that scum were being lynched) the Mafia never got to the point where they had rolecopped and killed the entire Town and realized there could be (was) a mole among scum.

This game was designed with the main scum tactic being to slow down the Town and use the advantage of time given to them. For Town, it is a race against the clock to lynch scum, as scum (apparently) get 2 chances to end the game every night. And yes, once the entire town had been rolecopped/killed, scum should have been able to find a mole.

The Town and the mole did not play at the Mafia's ideal pace, and I did not see Mafia trying to persuade the Town to play slower--and ideally choose to no-lynch. The fact that scum were one night away from discovering the presence of a mole (and clearly then Fate would have been NKed unless Snake got lynched on the last day) shows how close scum were to a win even given Town's early accuracy on lynches.

I also will apologize for my mistakes in vote counts and formatting (all of which I hope I caught during the game) and thank you all for playing given the confines of a BaM ruleset game. Special thanks to Lateralus22 who replaced in at endgame.

To refute claims of this being broken:

Regarding Town play, I think scum were hurt mostly by the playerlist and less by the setup. We had a Town that submitted to the mole's bullying apparently throughout this game. People were free to not follow him or vote for him because of his attitude, but they didn't. It was brought up that Fate could be bussing, but the Town decided to keep him alive anyways. Why? The Town did NOT know that the mole was a mole or even Town-aligned, so this trust for him really did not come from the setup itself. He was part of two Townie lynches, and the Town should've considered that he was trying to lynch the power role, but they didn't.

Regarding scum play, I think this is a meta issue. Scum liked bussing too much in my opinion. Even if the mole had been a dumbass, I don't think the extent to which they bussed was good strategy for this specific game. I gave scum a method to essentially kill the Town up to twice as fast (except for N1), as well as a major tactic for instilling fear into the Town when a scum was on the chopping block. But instead of using those two and playing to a slow victory by killing Townies, Mafia decided to let themselves be killed.

I did not think "clues" of any type were supposed to help scum find the mole. I figured scum would understand that any single power role might balance a 4:9 setup. And I weasel-worded to make the mole seem like a goon, not to create immediate doubt for the goons about the mole's alignment. Scum were primarily supposed to find the mole by exactly the same strategy that they should've used to win the game that they thought was being played. If you think allowing your own teammates to be killed while allowing the Town to remain unified is a good Mafia tactic, then that is where our disagreement lies regarding the balance of this setup.

My final remark in defense of this setup is what I kept in mind during the entire setup design process: If the Mole does not play well, the setup is 3:10 mountainous, with scum helped by nightly rolecop and hurt by thinking it is 4:9.
