To answer your question, Sunny: I've actually been debating how to use those. Here's my decision: The points are what I think of them at the time. It gives some insight on my thought process and also lets me easily find them through iso.

@UglyDuck: This is his first game. I believe he clarified that he meant that people would vote the IC because he would be a better scum player.

I don't consciously play differently between the two. You're much better off asking someone with a lot of experience playing with/against me if I play differently cuz I sure as hell don't intend to.

4. What do you think gives away a player as scum or town

I think in general "tells" are really overrated and "slips" are incredibly rare. What I try to do is look at actions players have taken and see if those match up with the words they're pumping the thread with. By actions I mean concrete things like votes, claims, power use, etc.

I thought that it was odd that he voted for a second person with no evidence against them(in my opinion) after already doing a random vote. I didn't see the point of it. I thought that perhaps the conflict between Reckoner and Zito was an early-game bussing attempt or Zito retracted his vote to avoid further scrutiny from Reckoner because he found out the vote for him was because he voted for Reckoner to start out. Therefore; I would love to hear why Zito thought that Duck's post was suspicious, he never explained the reason for that opinion.

I think that keeping my vote on WhyReadThis is the best decision for now, especially since they confirmed, but have not posted so far. This seems like intentional lurking, especially since they are aware a game is going on. Without any explanation for their absence, I have to suspect them.

I get the reasoning behind this, but not everyone is available 24/7. Something may have cropped up.

And I'm not exactly an expert, but from what I've heard, lurking isn't necessarily a scumtell. It's just only useful for scum.

I don't have any postrate statistics handy and honestly I don't care how "common" a slow start is. What I do know is that the town is going to have a really hard time coming to a consensus if people aren't participating.

There's no way to tell if the lack of posting is intentional. Some people have busy lives and can only post at certain times of day. Some people forget about games between the time they signed up and the time it starts. Some people are reactionary and only post when they feel like they need to address something. And yeah some people (of both alignments!) decide that laying low is the best course of action and purposefully avoid the thread as much as possible.

But I wouldn't characterize what we're seeing as lurking. That's an entirely different thing.
