Game Rules

General Rules/Game Etiquette
  1. Obey all Site-wide Rules.
  2. Communication outside the thread (if your role specifically allows it) is allowed until the game begins.
  3. You may not quote private communication of any kind. This includes moderator-supplied information (either real or fabricated) of any kind. Paraphrasing (for role claims, etc.) is acceptable.
  4. There is to be NO personal communication outside of the forum postings unless your role PM specifically allows it.
Activity/Prods/Replacements
  1. Prods of missing players will be issued after 30 hours of no activity.
  2. A prodded player has 24 hours to respond to the prod, after which time a replacement search will begin. The prodded player may re-enter the game so long as no replacement has been found.
  3. A player who has been prodded 3 times is subject to possible replacement without further notice.
  4. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than 30 hours please PM me or post in the thread to declare V/LA.
  5. I reserve the right to force replace players who need extensively long V/LA at my own discretion.
Deadlines
  1. Deadlines for this game will be 10 days for Day 1 and 7 days for following Day Phases. Night Phases will last a maximum of 48 hours.
  2. Players may request an early end to the Night Phase by PM'ing me. Night will be cut short if all players request it.
  3. Extensions are given only in extreme circumstances.
  4. If you have a role with a Night action your choices are due to me by the posted deadline. If I do not receive your choice via PM by the posted deadline you will forfeit your actions.
Player Actions/Voting/Player Death
  1. A simple majority of all living players must agree on one person (via voting) for a Lynch to occur (simple majority = ½ # of living players +1, rounded down). If no one has a simple majority of votes at deadline a No Lynch will occur.
  2. Votes must be bolded or use the [.vote] tags to be counted (e.g.
    Vote: Player
    or VOTE: Player).
  3. Unvotes are not necessary before changing votes.
  4. You may
    Vote: No Lynch
    - a simple majority of these vote types are required to send the game to Night phase without a Lynch.
  5. Votes made using nicknames or abbreviations will be counted at my discretion. Fake vote gambits should be executed at your own peril. If I think its a vote, then its a vote.
Miscellaneous
  1. I will use
    Bolded Dark Blue
(#004080) for Mod posts. Don't impersonate me. No invisible/small/encrypted text is allowed.
  2. Any situation not explicitly covered above is subject to my discretion and will be handled as I see fit on a case-by-case basis.
I've only made one good post, and don't you dare accuse me of doing it again.

Role PM's have been sent out. Please confirm in the method described by your Role PM. If enough players have confirmed the game will begin in (expired on 2018-07-15 05:45:00)

This is a friendly reminder that this game will be using the recently announced deadline and prod timer changes.

There is a higher chance the IC will be town than scum, there is no reason to vote for them before they have done anything suspicious.

I wasn't criticizing you for random voting, only voting for Zito because they are the IC. I've seen IC's fall under suspicion multiple times in newbie games I have read through with the justification of "they would be better scum players than anyone here." I think that is faulty reasoning because they are more likely to be town than not and even one vote on them for that reason could provide scum a bandwagon to support.

EBWOP: I don't oppose a random vote, I just want to know whether you are voting randomly, suspect him because he's the IC, wish to put pressure on him by increasing the number of votes to 2, or have some other motive.

Hello friends welcome to another game of
Zito is Never Vig
Mafia Scum Dot Net. I'll be your guide through this wondrous adventure.

As an IC I have a kind of double role in this game. First I'm a player like everyone else, so I'll be playing to my win condition (town BTW) just like everyone else. I'll be up to the rest of you to decide if I'm evil manipulative lying scum or not. But my other role is as sort of a mentor, and here I am bound by Being a Good IC. Feel free to ask questions about game mechanics, how things work, what things mean, and so forth and rest assured that I won't lead you astray on these topics. In that vein I suggest everyone read Commonly Used Abbreviations to get up-to-date on the lingo. I also recommend everyone read the rules carefully in any game you play, as each mod tends to have his/her own ruleset.

Oh and an avatar. Please god everyone get an avatar.

Can everyone answer these questions:
1. What is your experience at Mafia
2. How do you play as town
3. How do you play as scum
4. What do you think gives away a player as scum or town

My answers:
1. Little, this is my first game, I have looked at some completed newbie games however.
2. I will try to post a lot, seem confident(because nervousness makes someone seem guilty), and advance the game quickly.
3. In general, I will try to emulate my townself as much as possible and attempt to avoid having a preset plan(like attempting to lynch someone), because taking advantage of the opportunities other players give me to question and suspect them seems more town-like.
4. I think that defensiveness and contradiction of stated beliefs are the biggest scumtells. I will be less suspicious of a player that tunnels someone than a player who is open-minded and then tunnels.

Ohai, I have time for a longer post now.

Please call me Sunny, I prefer that to SD (I am the opposite of a memory card, as you will soon find out). If the scum squad could put red cover sheets on their TPS reports to keep things nice and simple, that would be greeeeaat.

Down to business:

We got to real content in record time. Amazing.

Chardev, why are you misrepresenting what CT asked? Your vote reason was obviously RVS (unless you're scum in which case props for being honest), but I can see why a newbie would want clarification.

Are you still using your odd town/scum scale thing you had in our first/last game, or was the 5% comment just a finger of suspicion kind of deal? (Mostly curious because it may change how I read your posts if you are.)

Oh, you retracted based on CT's newness. That's better.

CT gets points as a player for reading newbie games to get up to speed.

If an RVS vote and an OMGUS vote meet in one post, do they cancel each other out? Tune in for more at eight.

For the love of Chuck yes, please get avatars. I will fuck up your names and confuse the shit out of everyone from here to kingdom come if you don't. If you need help finding one, I'm happy to oblige.

ohai Chronic, please post soon.

CT's questions:

1: I've been playing for over a year off and on. I qualify as an IC, but don't feel up to the responsibility at this point in time. I will probably still attempt to be helpful because that's just how I am.

2 & 3: My approach is the same no matter what I roll: I throw myself at my win condition and see what sticks best for the game I'm in. Every game is different, so trying to use the same method across all of them would have...pretty terrible results, honestly.

4: It's rare that a single thing will flash a bright red "Town" or "Scum" light at me. When that has happened in the past it's generally been less of a "tell" and more of a situational punch to the face. For example: A nonsensical counter claim that could
only
come from scum, or someone exhibiting an extreme behavior I know from personal experience is not scum-driven. In normal play, however, my reads tend to be comprised of many interdependent elements that all add up to town-to-scum list that shuffles about constantly as I read and reread what's posted.

...I'm a bit conflicted about your responses. I'm going to think about it for a minute tho because it might just be that you're new and seeing things more black and white than they are.

Unrelated to game solving and therefore in a separate post to save people's eyeballs:

@Mod
(and everyone):

I'm on PTO from 7/21 to 8/5. As a result I'll be totally VLA on 7/20 (while I prepare the unfortunate soul who's subbing for me for the chaos that will occur in my absence) and on 8/6 (while I fix whatever said unfortunate soul broke while I was gone). God help the poor lady, my job is a disaster.

ANYWAY.

While on vacation, I will be participating in GISH (look it up, it's rad and sign ups are closing soon). GISH is a time-intensive, semi-competitive event that runs from 7/28 to 8/4. I have every intention of maintaining a presence here throughout the week, but I will be noticeably quieter, especially toward the end as my team goes balls to the wall to wrap up our hunt.

Also I tend to be less present on the weekends because I am single parent to a small child.

I think that's about it.
