I don't really *get* the role. Seems damaging to town for nothing. If I get lynched in the natural course of the game, the reads that I left behind would be reviewed retroactively as coming from a town perspective.

This role more or less ensures town one less player for nothing in return.

It's my feeling that as a VT, it's your goal to draw the night kill. I would think a miller could be played the same way. In my mind the best strategy would be to hint at a non-specific PR to do so. If you survive to the end game, you could end up badly hurting town, so trying to draw a kill is probably optimum.

I almost don't want to trust such a pure act of kindness, but a newbie would legitimately make this play. I'd say she got told to do it but there's no daychat. So uh... Good for her.

It's easy to get fooled by a player that likes newbtelling left and right but it's easy to see it's extremely forced here.

My limited experience with Mary Jo is that a lot of things she says sounds forced. She’s like a self-inflicting grammer Nazi at times.

Even if it's just before? I'm fairly sure town!MJL would have read the thing just on top and asked more questions about the place of a miller in a setup but in here she acted confused. That's how I feel about the slot anyway.

A part of me can’t really place it right but I think this is a valid point. Mary Jo strikes me as more of the analytical type. Someone who is vastly more in the element when solving the game through night actions, role claims, and flavor (when applicable).

Voting the Elsa Jay slot based on 134. Her question didn’t need to asked because not much had happened for your reads to have changed or anything. You also had expressed a strong interest in wanting Creature to get involved and engaged at the time.

I can get down with Creature. I used to like giving him a day because if he doesn’t town it up within a two week span, he’s confirmed scum every time. I’ve gotten burned by that in past (twice) though. He was forgotten about in both games due to a spree of TvT spats and cruised to endgame.

The entire way that debate played out is not something I would expect from a group of players that are all town. A lot of it is how the game as a whole played out, tone, and the general trajectories of everyone involved.

a. I knew you would engage me regardless of whether I started pressuring you directly or not. I did not have that same read on LUV.
b. Direct pressure would not give me sortable information on you, it had some ability to work on LUV.
c. My read on LUV is "town because ? and scum because ?" and I need to be able to sort those out in order to decide which one it is. My read on you is directly because of your overall approach to the game and how it's affected your content.

What information? I gave you a few people I like for town without any reasoning.

What is the point of having an encryptor if there are only two scum? Just make day-talk a thing and once either of them gets lynched, they can't talk to themselves in the mafia PT during the day time.

He's playing heavily survivalistically. This recent thought process is not a real one, because there are far better reasons than those three are the lowest posters to scumread them. Creature is scum realizing that he's in a hole because too many people are clearly town for him to win.

His interactions with skitter and me are fake and made to look busy more than actually sorting people. Also of note is that he had no strong opinion of skitter after that engagement he had with her clearly showing he had a scumread trajectory on her.

Deltawave is null, but there are good reasons to townread everybody else in the game. The game is really as simple as it looks and I would be pretty shocked if the scumteam wasn't in that list.

I wouldn’t consider Creature weak by any stretch of the imagination. Easy to push on but not weak.

I find tone reading to be one of the better ways to read players. As a tone reader, we’re trying to understand what a player is feeling and seeing if it makes sense from someone of your alignment. If I was in their shoes, would I feel and act similarly as the same alignment? I’m in tuned with Cheeky so it’s much harder to her to pull a fast one on me.

Apparently you're strongly confident LUV and me is the team, so if one of us flips town, this theory breaks completely apart. I think if I flip town likely LUV will still be lynched, but if LUV flips town, then I'm pretty much kilometers from being lynched.

Except this doesn’t make sense to me at all since we have extensive experience together. I wouldn’t say I’m Tammy or Nacho levels hard to lynch but I’m very hard to lynch in most cases.

I can’t think of many players off of the top of my head that would fake claim as miller as scum Day 1 other than Flavor Leaf.

A good fake claim in my opinion is one they doesn’t get you lynched. That's it. There's really no way to break it down into “good roles to fake claim" and "bad roles to fake claim". It all depends on the given situation. Now Mary Jo’s claim has accomplished that so far but it’s not something that’s going to get her to end game. And quite frankly, I don’t see any reason why she fake claims miller unless she’s not confident in her abilities or play at all. Even then, I expect her to just opt to lurk or be non-committal.

Mason and miller go together as well as apples and oranges. Why put a single miller in a game where there are high chances where masons are likely to be the only REAL power of town? Especially when one of the masons happens to be a mailman on top of that?

I’m terrible at setup speculation but if I’m remember correctly, masons can be used as a substitute cop role. The masons clearing one another is seen as similar to an investigative role since it's two confirmed town.

nomnomnom is still blatantly town despite this push, I don't think it's within her scumrange to be able to stream of consciousness in this level of detail as scum.

MJL I'm throwing in the town bin mainly because I somewhat remember her reads being a lot more flat and forced as scum (I helped mod starcraft mafia, so I was able to see things that nobody else has), although I admit she was well out of her element that game and need to double check this with other games first before writing off on it.
Saudade had a trajectory towards the end of day yesterday that I felt was townspewish, I got the impression that he would be playing a more consistent tight game as scum, and pushing so aggressively back against the push on him AND the lynch target for the day doesn't seem like a scum thought process for me.

That leaves LUV and TDC.

LUV is pretty easy if you look at how his reads evolve over day one; his trajectories are very jagged and not consistent from post to post, and also not consistent from how he's approaching the game and other slots. I'd need a lot more time to build an actual case on this since this type of read is heavily based on gut for me, but I found it pretty blatant when I did see it.

TDC is a strong partner choice for two reasons:

1. TDC, when you really look at his ISO, is the very definition of scum looking busy. He isn't legitimate sorting anybody this game, he's asking questions and yet not taking the answers anywhere. He's slipping into the blind spots because his content looks good enough on the surface to pass as a solving ISO, but there is no actual solving there.
2. TDCs first post contains two separate instances of incongruence. First, look at his LUV read and tell me that looks natural. Then look at his Blake and Skitter reads and tell me that his reasoning warrants a stronger scumread than that. Second, look at how he explains his reads in the first place. It's strange that a player that looks to ply with more of an oldschool approach plays like somebody from the hyperposter era when it comes to giving reads in just that one instance, which is also relevant because of how little raw sorting there is in his ISO.

In the words of Not Mafia: “Shut up scum.”

The guy subbed in with over 20 pages to read. We had a miller claim from an obvious newbie, two confirmed town in Cheeky and Skitter claiming the game is close to being solved, and a tunneling Saudade or better yet, brick wall. TDC was the only player to have picked up on the fact that Skitter and Cheeky were masons and couple that with Mary Jo claiming miller, that’s basically 3 confirmed town.

Nom has been transparently town. That leaves me, you, and Creature. He made an attempt to figure out how to sort Saudade in his big catch-up post in 609. Further clarified that in 618 and 620.

I feel I’ve been as close as to transparent as I can be. Maybe not on the level of Nom but pretty close. There was quite a bit that Creature could’ve expanded on but that’s like pulling teeth with him in most cases so I can see why he opted for a summary of the wagon on as opposed to combing through his ISO. That only leaves just you.

You completely ignored his initial attempt to sort you in 609 in 610 and 615. Gave off a cheeky tone (pun not intended) when he asked about your Saudade hop in 706. Opt to ignore him in 782 and 1109. You don’t get to flat out ignore questions and claim people are being or political or looking busy.
