I mean, unless you actually have a revelation about cults it's just a silly theory that's fun to imagine. I would say that in that scenario he decided it's better to have two competing wagons instead of just one to give people the psychological impression that they get a choice, and once both of us were locked in as options it didn't really matter much - and in that scenario he could've judged me to be a better asset if cult.
