I think this is, at its core, a question about how you view morality and redemption. I suppose also of identity.
If you truly believe deeply in that, then Vader is barely a villain because of the act at the end of his life which amounts to repentance.
There’s evidence for this in that he becomes a force ghost in the mythos — but this is where the question of identity comes in. Because it’s not truly *Vader* who returns as a force ghost, it’s Anakin. Fundamentally he is not the same person as he is when he’s Vader. Ani is the boy who fell in love with Padme in the sand dunes while acting as her bodyguard. He’s flawed, certainly — he’s still Anakin at the time when he massacres the sand people. Anakin is not a pure or wholly good person.
But by the time that he murders the younglings, I think he has become Darth Vader. He may still be using the name, but he’s de facto entered into his apprenticeship to Palpatine. In the duality of the character, evil has won, he’s become the villain who is Darth Vader and that interpretation is supported by almost all the actions we see from Vader during the original trilogy.
Vader/Anakin are two people contained within the same body. Anakin is the morally complex and conflicted one; Vader the one who has accepted evil and who can conduct acts unquestioningly. Vader is truly villainous, and for that reason we should go right."we knew everything... And we knew nothing."-

I have some "flaws" but none of them result in me genociding lol"Let us say that you are right and there are two worlds. How much, then, is this 'other world' worth to you? What do you have there that you do not have here? Money? Power? Something worth causing the prince so much pain for?'"

i love how "flaws" is in quotation marks
also i'm very poorly familiar (read: not familiar) with the source material so i'm gonna abstain from this discussion as i have nothing to bring to the tableI will straight up disregard all reason if you have a PR dream again. You can come back and be like, “I dreamt that Locke is a N2 Bulletproof Multitasking Cop and Self-Targeting Doctor,” and I will go, “Okay, Locke kill it is then.”~M-

No sign of Auro.. can someone from Team Wealthy Star just input a guess? (I’m not going to be too hard on deadlines because they’re more to prevent the discussion from taking forever than anything else. But I would like to keep this moving.)-

uhhh, is there something im missing here? the only star wars ive seen are the first 6 movies once each but like, darth vader is a pretty classic villain who only did the right thing at the very very end of his life, hence why i thought he was good for like ~80. if anything i was worried you guys would go too high since he's such a classic villain? dude slaughtered children....we're all made of stories | remember to take your b12 | sign up for a GTKAS thread! I feel like my reasoning for putting it lower is largely because of all the work that's gone on to make Anakin sympathetic. I know others consider Anakin and Vader different characters, but I really don't."Animorpherv1's posts are so powerful that prolonged exposure may cause vertigo, nausea, acute tinnitus, and in rare cases, death." - vonflare

huh. definitely more old fashioned than modern? but like still fairly modern? i dunno, first thought is 55-60, but if we're talking all of history... gah i dunno. game be difficult.I will straight up disregard all reason if you have a PR dream again. club penguin is pretty old, very early in the chat a bit play a bit era. But I think of Neopets as being kind of the same genre yet Neopets is even older. I want like 75"Let us say that you are right and there are two worlds. How much, then, is this 'other world' worth to you? What do you have there that you do not have here? Money? Power? Something worth causing the prince so much pain for?'"

yeah, neopets are a couple of years older.
in the middle of writing my post i started thinking about the middle ages and ancient greece and i was like "ok better go 55 to be on the safe side"
if we think kanna didn't go "literally all of history" when coming up with the hint i could see like 70?I will straight up disregard all reason if you have a PR dream again. a villain being sympathetic doesn't make them not a villain! but i understand. i wasnt really aware of all that material, im afraid. like i said to me star wars is just a series of 6 movies i saw once and remember mostly because of their cultural significance and not because i was ever really into them.In post 1193, animorpherv1 wrote:I feel like my reasoning for putting it lower is largely because of all the work that's gone on to make Anakin sympathetic.
