weak and desperate have different functionalities on a base level though
desperate specifically is a modified sort of loyal/disloyal (depending on which alignment it is) which dies if the action would fail sometimes (the case in this game, unless I misinterpreted the claim?)
weak just dies if it targets scum, iirc weak roles don't have their action fail if they'd die due to the weak modifier

is this thought process incorrect here?

The soonest I'd even start to accept massclaim is D2 (morning sun phase 1) and even then I probably wouldn't be happy with it
see Mini Normal 2171 for a game where a premature massclaim screwed town over. I folded over and let a D2 massclaim happen, and it ended up giving scum the advantage despite them having lost their roleblocker to the town vig the last night. You can bet your ass I'm not letting a premature massclaim happen in a game like this where practically anything can go wrong.
