ok so how do you actually explain what your gut tells you or what ur instinct tells you. While there is theory behind it, if you have to call it gut/instinct, then by nature it's going to be difficult for that person to explain because its based on their instincts/gut feelings. Another player might be able to tell you this is why and how and understand it, but some players do just rely on their gut/instinct and its harder to make those players explain it since they don't understand it, its just their instincts. If you instinctively have a feel for something, its harder to describe/teach it then it is if you understand how that something actually works/operates.
like instinct/gut is "my experience has told me that in this situation I should be doing this in response to this" where as if you understand why you're doing it, then it becomes "In this situation I should be doing this in response to this because..."
Every gut instinct comes from somewhere. There is something you're noticing about someone's posting that you believe would be different if they were scum/town, so your goal in explaining a gut read is to find it. Sometimes it can feel like a guess, but if you practice trying to put it into words you can get better at it. You can also compare gut reads from different games and try to see what they have in common which can help too. For example a common type of gut read for me that I didn't know how to express at first was the "fake nuance" post, where scum writes more words than they really need to express something and are using that to either hedge or look town. That's not a perfect expression of the read, and you can never get to perfect with gut reads (see my sig), but you can definitely get better. At the very least, you can maybe make someone go "hmm that seems believable" if not "I'm sold, ship it"
The other thing that I find helpful is that even if you can't explain them to others is labeling and categorizing your gut feelings in your head. I think postie used to have colors associated with them which I found super interesting, for me they're just different feelings and I eventually come up with names for them

I'm also having trouble understanding why her response times matter here. Would they be slower if she was scum?
Probably? I just pinned her as scum very confidently and earlyish in another game, so I'd think she'd be a little more apprehensive about giving her answers if she was scum here
the simple answer is that i'm not scum answering these things and i had those thoughts early game whether or not people think they're real is like, shrug! even if people disagree it's just how it is
i was a little surprised that you thought i was scum so fast when i felt that i was posting the same way that i have been in places like divide, and that there was a tell that you thought was in play; at most i've thought you were frustrating at that point but not... scummy, you know? and the fact that you 180'd on it after we interacted makes me feel like you're town, you don't have any real incentive to do that and heal me when you're scum (unless scum know what's going to happen setup wise?)

because it's Hectic that's just what he does

(its actually the same game i played with cakez) with that game, i was figuring out how to be better at scum, and i almost want to be scum again to see if i develop my skills there better. but, i also hate being scum
yeah I remember that one you snowed us pretty well. i will be more paranoid this time.
