"tick" and "film" seem like the obvious choices. a watch ticks, watching a film. i guess "pupil" is also possible since you watch things with it?

not sure on the last two... i can think of a few, but they all seem like stretches. anything obvious i'm misssing?

I'm thinking TICK > FILM > CHECK > WIND > PUPIL

for check I'm thinking more along the lines of like watching for something/checking for something, but with both possible meanings I think it's all the more likely.

this is kinda why i'd rather go pupil than diver. i dunno, it makes sense after you say that divers need to wear a watch to time oxygen, but it's not something i would ever think of. how sure are you haschel would know of it?

ok i just searched through haschel's posting history, he's never posted about diving (at least not in the sea-diving context). how common is the "divers wear watches" knowledge? i know i said i've never heard of it, but i'm not exactly a good measure for if something is common knowledge or not here.
