Hm. Translation: do not under any circumstances guess DUCK. And sending that message was more important than giving us any information about what we should guess - which means we probably have everything we need?

Does anyone see anything else that could connect to WINGS (and thus should *not* be guessed)?

: ruled out by WINGS 0.
THEATRE: strong match for SOPHISTICATION. ??? for BIOTICS. ("operating" theater is a connection.) Very difficult to connect to wings. (cherubs in the archways? plays about flight?)
OLIVE: possible match for SOPHISTICATION. ??? for BIOTICS. (is alive, but that's about it?) Very difficult to connect to wings. (olives and strawberries are both fruits; winged strawberries exist in at least one video game.)
ROSE: possible match for SOPHISTICATION. ??? for BIOTICS. Connection to WINGS - ROSE as the past tense of RISE, and wings help one rise through the air. Counter-argument: easy to see "ROSE" and just think about the flower, not the past-tense definition of RISE.
COMPOUND: maybe a match for BIOTICS? Not seeing SOPHISTICATION. This is just along the lines of "compounds are science-y; biotics are science-y."
PASTE: got nothing here.
WEB: Other than the "web -> internet -> connects to literally everything", I've got nothing here.

Current leaning: THEATER > OLIVE > COMPOUND > ROSE >>> WEB > PASTE > (insert about a thousand >s) > DUCK.

At this point, I'm devaluing BIOTICS, as clearly I don't understand what it means.

theater stages have wings. I am also fairly certain (unless I missed the red team guessing the last Breve word) that the third Breve word is theater.

Plus one would watch (a show) at a Theatre too. Yeah, that's a good argument against Theatre.

The WING connection to ROSE makes me nervous, but I don't see WEB or PASTE being hits either.

Oh I just realized there's only seven unguessed words left. Take out duck and theater, and we only need to eliminate one more, and then guess the remaining four. Out of rose/compound/olive/paste/web, I think paste is least connected to our clues. So my order is something like compound > rose > web > olive.

oops, I can totally count.

I think compound can fit all three (biotics are sciencey, compounds are sciency; molecules can have a status like liquid, gas, solid; compounds are "sophisticated" versions of molecules). Web for status of a webpage. I like rose for sophisticated and possibly status and it's also living so it could be for biotics as well. same goes for olive pretty much.. Rose and olive are pretty similar and I can't decide which one I like better, so I guess I'll actually put compound and web first.

I'm cool with a guess of COMPOUND first.

WEB is still striking me as really iffy. Taking WEB as a synonym for Internet, it's one of those words where I'd struggle *not* to connect it to just about anything I could think of.
Something else I just thought of - spiderwebs exist to catch winged insects.

my original thought for the second clue was "Organics" (for organic materials, Olive/Rose/Web plus a bonus chance at Lab or an extra stab at a Status guess) but that was sure to land on Compound, probably first. "Biotics" means the same thing to me but better evokes Lab and would probably dodge Compound (I believe you were all on the trail of "bionics" with the Robot guess). I figured either way a clue of 4 would dodge the 4 animals (because "why would he not just do Animal - 4") but I totally wasn't thinking of Bug in the viral sense, which for sure would have been my first guess personally aha, so that obviously wasn't a great alternate to Organics after all. also idk how or why the '-s' stuck around lol, which definitely made it worse/more Bug-indicative.

GG everyone.

So apparently the first Google hit for "biotics" is a nutritional supplement company - which might hit ROSE (rosehips), but still probably also hits COMPOUND. I think even with Google we get led astray there. (Biotics is also a term in Mass Effect - think like telekinetic powers - which could have been a heck of a red herring if any of us had thought of it / been aware of it.)

Maybe something like VINES 3 gets us to where we need to be? Thinking flora to get to ROSE and OLIVE (plus OLIVE doubles as a possible vine color), and the long stringy appearance to get to WEB. That runs the risk of hitting DUCK (as a verb), though.
