Gameplay

The following vote formats are the de-facto standard on the site (aka votes should be enclosed with vote tags or bold tags. I don't care about caps/spelling/etc.)

declarations are valid to remove your vote, but are

required in order to change it.
If it appears to be a vote for a player, I will treat it as a vote for a player. Please don't attempt to fool me or other players with regard to fake votes. Do not put votes in spoiler tags.
An
elimination
is achieved when half plus one of the current number of living players are voting for the same player. If this does not occur by deadline, a No Elimination will occur -- there is no plurality elimination in this game.
Twilight is the time between the 'hammer' vote being cast and the beginning of the night phase. All living players, including the most recent elimination, may talk during this time.
Players' alignments will be revealed on death.
When killed, a player may make one informationless 'bah' post at the beginning of the next day phase and must be silent thereon until the conclusion of the game.
Please submit all night actions either via your private topic if you have one, or by PM if you do not.
If you have a night action and do not submit one, you will not take an action. I will not resolve your action on a random person.
Player List is ordered alphabetically by the initial players' names.
Role distribution is guaranteed to be random, determined with the aid of random.org

Deadlines

Day 1 will be exactly 10 days long. All further days will be seven (7) days long. Extensions may be granted at my discretion for what I feel are extenuating circumstances.
Nights will be exactly two days (48 hours) long.
Players will be given 48 hours to initially pick up role PMs, or they will be replaced.
Players will be prodded after 36 hours of inactivity during the day, excepting V/LA circumstances.
Failure to pick up a prod in 24 hours will result in replacement. Asking for replacement will result in replacement.

Setup

This game is based on the video game Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Knowledge of flavor is not necessary to play this game, but this game will contain spoilers regarding the source material.
The makeup of this game is known to be
3 Mafia
vs.
10 Town
. No other alignments exist in this game.
In this game, all players may be classified as "Human" or "Demonic". What state a player is in may (or may not) affect what powers that player has access to - this will be signified by the ability being prefixed with "Human - " or "Demonic - ". If it lacks either of these, it is always in play.
Unless otherwise specified, a player is considered "Demonic" if they have two or more shards, otherwise, they are classified as "Human". Players may start with 0 or more shards per their role.
During the day, in addition to the normal elimination vote, players may also vote for a player to give a single shard to using HURT: Hurt Tags. This must be done before the elimination because elimination will end the day. While the vote to give a shard must take place before the end of the day, the shard will not be assigned to the awarded player until then. It is not compulsory to give a shard in this manner. There may be other ways to receive shards.

The win conditions for both factions are public and will be made available via sample role PMs. Characters from Sample PMs are from Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, and not the Bloodstained series.
At the beginning of every game day, I will publicly post a rough indication of the number of demonic players in the game, using one of the following ranges: Low (0-2), Medium (3-5), or High (6-8).
Flips will be full role card, plus whether or not the flipped player was Human or Demonic at the time of their death.
Mafia has specific rules regarding their win-con and factional action.

Yet, inside the recesses of Gebel’s own mind, a different truth lives, waiting for someone both willing and able to discover it.

Maybe if she doesn’t attack them, they’ll leave her in peace?

A vampire who lives in the castle summoned to Arvantville, Bloodless cares about little more than her next meal. As such, she is aching to find humans to sink her teeth into so that her powers can continue to grow.

Ok, great, it's over, you're free, and since I haven't been living under a rock for the past two weeks, I'm acutely aware of the general mood regarding the game. Honestly, all feedback is good feedback as long as it's something I can act on, so I promise everyone will have plenty of time to get the last word about everything and anything regarding things you liked, or (mostly), didn't.

But I'm going to get the first:

I sincerely appreciate everyone sticking with this, even when they were very obviously unhappy with the way the game was designed and played out. Not having to replace anyone is a really rare thing and you made the game very easy for me to run, even if hard to watch because I knew this conversation was going to have to happen postgame.

Now to the elephant in the room: This alternate wincon was a failed experiment for a number of reasons, not the least of which was that I initially designed the game for scum to want to start out using kills early game, and only resort to the alternate wincon if they weren’t able to make kills happen due to the high amount of protective roles in the game once they got activated. However, the scumteam correctly realized that they could basically blitz the alternate wincon with no regard to the primary one, and due to a lot of late stage evolutions of the setup I basically just failed to notice this. That’s entirely on me and for that I’m more than willing to apologize.

Hopefully in this light it’s a little easier to see why the initial demon target number was so low, and some roles appear fairly worthless (medea, spiffeh) and some a little questionably designed (lld) - in a game that started with nightkills, my expectation would’ve been that scum may have lost some NKs early due to town awarding shards to players that asked for it, and scum countering that either by vanillazing away roles they didn’t want to deal with it or blitzing toward the alternate condition late game. I think the bloodless role made ignoring NKs entirely way too easy.

I don’t necessarily think the scum BP role was inherently unfair (i specifically thought the comparison to my earlier mistake in the touhou game I ran was maybe a little much), and I’m a fan of anti-swing measures in general, but people hated it, and since I

am

interested in reviewing for fun, well, message received on that one.

Otherwise I’m not sure what to say -- it’s rare that I have an experience where both teams are just livid the whole time and despite being reasonably confident that this would be a nice “medium complexity mechanic” and it just ended up being a nightmare for everyone involved.

If anyone has any more targeted feedback, I’m glad to listen at this time, although I’d appreciate people assuming at the very least that I made a good faith attempt to provide a good experience and am not “trolling the players”, which is not something I’d ever do in a real forum game.

it did have a town desharder - manatee was what you all thought manatee migiht be, but was gated behind removing one of the scum to "buy time" via the scum elim so to speak.

it was inelegant but i thought it would work.

also i thought you'd catch Dominique on flavor, who is the main antagonist of the game. HBTD had a fakeclaim (Johannes) and elected to go for a higher risk play, which ended up working well.
