Persepia:

Persepia is a world with one large pangea-like continent with several islands floating about. It is expansive and much of its wilderness is unknown to modern civilization. Various kingdoms and city states dot the continent, some in new places, some upon old capitals of fallen empires. Races find themselves relegated to their corner of the realm, but newer cities are more cosmopolitan.

Gods exist but don’t do a lot of specific intervention. They prefer to provide their power to worshipers through devotion. There is a pantheon of 8 called the Patrons.

Emil - goddess of knowledge
Leilee - goddess of life
Beld Vol - god of light
Chyronium - god of nature
Zek - god of tempest
The Strange One - god of trickery
Kor Hana - goddess of war


The current date:

The current year is 212 L.P., or 212 years into what is known as the Light Period, after the end of a time of turmoil known as the Dark Period.


Tel Nadev:

Tel Nadev is a city located in the middle of the Western Desert on the Caliphan Oasis and the Tel Nadev River. It is a somewhat populous city founded by merchants and is of mixed race. Every race under the sun can be seen here and each has their own district in the city, whether it be a couple of tents on the outskirts of town or sprawling several city blocks.

In the center of Tel Nadev is the human district of Albongan which is by far the most welcoming and cosmopolitan of districts. Whereas the half-orc district might have humans look a little out of place in a half-orc tavern, here there are businesses and houses of all kinds of people integrated.

Tel Nadev is a city-state ruled by the Emerald Queen, a mysterious figure who hides their true identity. Every once in a while she will make her will known to the people in a costume, and impersonators are immediately put to death, somehow the guard knows who is real and who is not.

The players start in Tel Nadev. Since it is a merchant city and traveling hub, players may be from here or could be from distant lands where their race particularly occupies, like the elven lands of Kir Harbir. Or could be from any cosmopolitan city like Brimshire to the north, Wraskal to the west, Ermwater to the south, and Lake Havinyon to the east, to name a few. Or they could be from pastoral lands near one of these city-states. Or whatever else they want to come up with.

The players are mercenary, looking for work.

Hello,

Wondering if there is any interest in playing Pathfinder or D and D 5e. New players are welcome!

Please reply if you are interested with

1. Preference for Pathfinder/5e (or don't care)
2. Type of character you'd like to play (can be a broad as "I'd like to do magicks" or as specific as "i want to be a draconic bloodline sorcerer")

Planning on doing play by post here in mish mash, i would request that you be active and able to post whenever it's your turn. Will try to figure out things to speed things up (like having me roll initiative instead of waiting for everyone to roll initiative, for instance).

newbies are welcome and we'll be starting at level 1 so it's a good way to get into the game without getting overwhelmed by choices. i can help you create a character and am willing to help coach though just be aware I'm a novice DM so i may not always be the best teacher.

Sweet. I'm still working on the world a little bit but we could probably start by making characters and we can fill in things like where exactly they are from and any gods they worship as it gets fleshed out.

If you need help creating a character we can work it out in thread or over discord. If you don't need any help feel free to start making a character and if you have any questions about what's allowed in creation let me know (preferably no homebrew content).

Still taking /ins as well, I'm fine running up to 6 in the party.

Some guidelines/rules:

Encumbrance - while you don’t have to keep track of the weight of everything, please keep a general track of everything and pay attention to what you have.

Food and board - as with encumbrance, please on occasion spend money on a meal or have some rations on your person if you’re out of town.

Experience - instead of experience, you will level up at certain points during the campaign. I will try to map it roughly towards when you would level up. If you wish to change this, let me know.

Campaign - you have the freedom to do whatever you want. I have a lot written down that’s a bit railroady at first that you are welcome to experience. Or you could say screw it and do whatever else you want and I will respond.

Rolls - Sometimes I will roll for you to keep things moving, if you hate that let me know and we can figure things out. I’d rather people roll for themselves but I also want to make sure things don’t take forever.

Responses - I will try to make sure to capture everyone who wants to say something in response to something, but I may try to keep things moving rather than get everyone’s opinion on something. If I have to retcon something because I didn’t get an important response then that’s fine we can figure something out so don't feel like you can't respond if I move on.

PvP - Please don't attack another PC unless they consent.

Editing Posts - Please don't edit posts if you can help it, I'd rather you post a new post. Sometimes the dice are unfavorable, or sometimes I might respond to what you say and if you edit it, it can get confusing.

You don’t know what you’ve signed up for, but it promised to pay a little gold, which you’re short of at the moment. You’re in a dimly lit room, seated on uncomfortable wooden benches, waiting. Soon, a portly halfling, whom you know as Goertz, waves you out of the room. “Quickly, quickly now.” He practically pushes and pulls the lot of you up a couple of stairs to what appears to be a large red curtain that’s been faded in color and picked at by the occasional moth apparently due to the holes in it. There are several props on stage, including a locked treasure box, a giant target, a 50 foot rope coiled on the ground, and a glass tank with a live fish swimming in it. Goertz pulls a rope and the curtain starts to ascend, revealing an audience of many races staring at you. Humans are well represented, but gnomes, halflings, elves and half-elves, half-orcs, dwarves, tieflings, dragonborn, and even more exotic races like kenku and leonin are here to watch the show. Goertz rushes out in front of you all.

“Ladies, Gentlemen, and Non-Binary Friends, I present to you, the Fascinating Sharks!” he gestures to you all, with a hasty nod. “Go on, you know what to do. Just show them some fancy magic or neat skill you got, they’re all drunk anyway they won’t care what you do,” he whispers harshly.

Much of the audience is stunned at first hearing the applause, looking around the room trying to locate it before realizing you cast a neat spell. They turn their attention to Aulric as you say you want to drink the water from the tank. The room fills with shouts of things like "Yes! i wanna see you drink all that" and "No the poor fish!" You're not sure which one is getting more votes, but the audience seems invested either way.

advantage was granted due to using the illusion to help with the slight of hand check.

A mixture of groans and "ewws" erupt form the audience, but in equal number are wide eyed gawkers amazed you were able to put a big fish into your mouth and swallow it. Someone in the front row mutters something about wondering if all tieflings eat raw fish, and gets a hmmph from a nearby tiefling. Regardless, you get a big reaction from the audience, they seem to be excited.

Goertz comes out from the side "Ha, very nice. Give it up for...uh...i forgot your name...the tiefling! Take a bow, take a bow. Next, turn your attention to...ahh...how about the gnome over there?" Goertz gestures to Cael.

The audience cheers, excited to see some magic. Some turn to the man, eager to see him dragged back, and some watch the gnome intently.

Cael will roll for Chill Touch with disadvantage in an attempt to drag the man back without hurting him.

A cold skeletal hand reaches out and grabs the man, to the "oohs" and "aahs" of the audience. Some of them look a little nervous at the spell, but the majority of the audience is into it. The man tries to dodge but falls to the floor and is picked up by the icy cold hand and dragged back towards the stage. The hand clings tightly around the man's arm, and he shivers, looking with abject fear at the wizard he insulted, clearly regretting his decision.

Goertz whispers from the back of the stage, "Okay, okay, you got him good, wanna let him go? Don't want to scare the audience too much, eh?"

The man brushes off the spot where the hand grabbed him, and shakes his head, leaving the theatre. The city of Tel Nadev is pretty tolerant, so most people are in awe of the magic that was performed and don't mind that the heckler was shown a bad time. Goertz watches the man go but shrugs, the audience is still pretty full of paying customers so he's happy.

Goertz walks out on stage. "Well, wasn't that something? I can't wait for what's next!" Goertz points to Ashlyn. "Why don't you show us what you got?"

Ashlyn first notices that no one seems to respond to the word said in Abyssal, or if they do, they don't show it. Ashlyn wobbles at first, but quickly collects herself. Her pike is planted firmly in the board of the stage. Goertz mutters something about not paying for that, but you're in the zone as you get your crossbow ready to shoot the target.

Your character sheet is currently incorrect as it doesn't include the proficiency bonus so make sure to add your proficiency bonus as well as your dexterity modifier to a d20.

Good point HC, i missed that. Still, it's a good lesson! But apologies, I meant to tell you (JTW) to roll a d20 and add the modifier.

The fish tank shatters and water starts to rush out. The sudden shattering of glass causes some of the audience members to flinch, though there's some who think it was intentional and you catch one young dragonborn mouthing the word "cool!" as water rushes onto the stage and splashes those in the front row. Goertz cringes as he sees someone pull a shard of glass out of their arm.

Goertz comes out, nearly slipping on the puddle of water made from the shattered glass. "Hey hey! You're paying for that one, too!" he hisses at you. He sighs and turns to the dragonborn amongst you.

Dizilpaan tosses the dart. It hits true to the target, though not to the bullseye. The crowd is mostly silent. "I could have done that," a heckler calls out.

Goertz doesn't love the silence and walks out on stage, performing a little dance to try and recaptivate the crowd, but it falls a little flat. "Thwack! You're up!" he hisses at the kenku in the group before bounding off the stage.

The audience is intrigued by the mimicry, before turning their attention to the arrow being fired. The arrow flies through the air to the eager delight of the crowd, perhaps some of them hoping it'll go somewhere it's not supposed to go. It hits the apple with just a little too much force, causing it to disintegrate in the air. This knocks the arrow's trajectory just enough to be somewhat off the bullseye, but the audience is still impressed by the destruction of the apple that they don't much care.

Goertz comes out again. "Nice one, Thwock. Now let's give it up for...ah...the elf."

Apologies, I just realized I skipped Nathaniel.

The seat that the flame is launched to is mercifully empty, but the crowd nearby does scatter as a flame is hurled towards them and the wooden thing catches on fire.

"Everyone keep calm!" someone calls from the crowd, and you see a couple members dressed in the city guard's uniform come over and stamp it out.

Goertz glares at the elf before stepping out on stage, looking nervous and sweating bullets. "This may be the last time I do this," he mutters under his breath. He turns to Nathaniel, looking at him sternly, like 'you better do something amazing'. "Everyone, give it up for our last act, Nathan L.!"

Nathaniel quickly tosses the rapier at the target. It lands...straight into the bullseye, not very deep, but deep enough to stick. The crowd is moderately impressed. They "ooh" and applaud for the halfling. Considering how "interactive" the show has been so far, they're pretty excited to see something work out.

Goertz claps his hands and wraps an arm around the halfling. "I knew you could do it, kid," he whispers before addressing the crowd one last time. "Ladies and Gentlemen and Non-Binary Friends, give it up for Tel Nadev's own Fascinating Sharks!" After some applause, the audience starts to file out, certainly with an interesting story to tell if not the best show they've ever seen. Goertz pulls the curtain down and takes you back to the green room behind the stage to dole out gold based on performance.

"My opening act, the fish eater! That was great. I'll give you 10gp for that." Goertz hands Aulric 10gp.

"Alright. Ghost hand gnome. Kinda scary. But impressive. I'll give you 7gp, but next time try not to assault the audience, eh?" Goertz hands Cael 7gp.

Goertz turns to Ashlyn and he almost turns away, but he sighs. "Alright lady, you broke my stage and my fishtank. I think this is fair." Goertz tosses Ashlyn 1sp.

Goertz turns to the dragonborn. "Eh. You tried. Here's a couple." He hands Dilzipaan 3gp.

"My kenku. That was pretty neat. I'll give you 5 for it." He hands Thwick 5gp.

Goertz looks reluctantly at the elf. "You owe me a chair." He tosses 1sp in the elf's direction.

Goertz smiles as he looks at his fellow halfling. "Ah. You were refreshing. Not the flashiest thing in the world but certainly entertaining none-the-less." He hands Nathaniel 10gp.

Goertz looks proudly amongst you, happy he found you all. "Hey folks, I've got another show coming up. I wouldn't mind seeing most of you back if you're interested." Goertz claps his hands a couple of times and sighs, before leaving the backstage room. As you collect your belongings and get ready to leave, a tall man dressed in the city guard’s light armor enters the room. He introduces himself as Bramley, and you can tell by a scar on his face and the stripes on his armor that he’s a seasoned fighter and a higher ranked member of the guard.

“Hello, I hope I’m not intruding. It was a great show you put on. But if you all are looking for real work for adventurers like you, I think I have something a little more interesting than Goertz’s little talent show. There’s a wild beast in a cave north of the city that needs to be dealt with, it’s hunting caravans that travel along that route. Interested?”

The Rusty Theatre lies in a part of the city called the Albongan, which is the human district. However even at twilight the street is busy with people of all races either making deals with shop keepers or frequenting the bevy of pubs and taverns. Next door to the theatre, a sign with a large displacer beast drawn with a mug of ale in its tentacle catches your eye, as it advertises The Greedy Panther Inn. You can smell warm food coming from the cooking hearth inside. There are half a dozen like establishments nearby, all with gaudy names, all promising warm food and a soft bed.

As far as spending money, some shops are still open well into the night, but some have started to close, it really depends on what you're looking for. In any case, there's more than enough time to rest up and find any supplies that you may not have.

The map you got from Bramley is pretty rudimentary, but it isn't that hard to follow. Walking north of the city, you see a large cliff face rising from the sand immediately. In the cliff face, there is a dark opening, which must be the cave he was talking about. As you stand about the entrance, the smell of blood is pretty apparent wafting from the cave. The opening is wide enough for all of you to comfortably enter together, but perhaps some sort of formation would be good since you can't tell what's inside.

How do you enter the cave?

As the party enters the cavern one by one, you move several feet down a winding corridor to a central cavern. Inside, the stench of blood and death is heavier. A group of goblins is inside, against the wall 30 feet away from you, sharpening weapons or playfighting. All six of them turn their attention to you as you enter the cave, six pairs of beady eyes curiously peeping at you before they grip tightly on their gobbie weapons. "Yark yark!" one shouts in the goblin tongue. They attack.

Goblins 1 and 2 both take swipes at Nathaniel but both scrape off of his armor.

Goblins 5 and 6 take on the Dizilpaan, one misses entirely in their rush over and another accidentally hits him with the flat of the scimitar.

The two ranged gobbies fair a little better. Goblin number 3 hits Thwick in the shoulder for

Aulric has fallen down! It is Aulric's turn to make a death saving throw.

Please roll a d20, once per turn. On a 10 or higher, you succeed. Otherwise you fail the roll. 3 successes = stabilized. don't get 3 failures! Someone else can come and try to stabilize you as well.

yeah it's weird when rolling multiple dice, just do 1d20 X number of times in the future.

The hand ax clinks and bounces off of the scimitar, to the chuckle of goblin 5, but you punch him in the face with your offhand, quickly ending his chortling.

Before the goblins can go, two figures enter the cave. You see a man dressed in a guard uniform and a man dressed in temple garb over his armor.

"Bramley sent us in case you ran into any trouble. The name's Del, this is Cassius," the guard says. The guard is a bulky looking tiefling while the cleric is a mousy looking human almost looking nervous to be in real combat.

The magic missiles fire from Cael's fingertips and shoot out towards the goblin. One hits him between the eyes, another on the shoulder, a third on the arm but all three knock him down to the ground.

You have defeated the goblins! Cassius looks a little worried as he looks around the battlefield.

You find 10gp, a silver locket with a picture drawn in it, and although empty, his backpack appears to be some sort of magic bag but you can't quite figure out how to use it yet, someone would need to identify it.

There are 5 rocks of equal size and shape, one red, white, green, blue, and black. There is also a depiction of a dragon carved into the rock, but someone needs to make an arcana check to identify what kind it is.

Lastly, there is a hole in the cavern wall that looks like a rock can be placed in it.

Sorry, the rock is like a stone, about as big as a baseball. No strength required

Aulric places the red rock into the hole. At first nothing happens. But after a moment, there is a rumbling in the cave wall as it shifts and opens a secret cache. Five pieces of obsidian, worth about 10gp each, are hidden, as well as two spell scrolls. Cael is able to identify them as having the spells Web and Suggestion.

The other stones turn the color of the cavern and seem to disappear.

The party, lead by Nathaniel and Del, wanders further into the cavern, into a large room that's about 30 feet by 50 feet. The sound of growling interrupts any thoughts as an ugly, two-headed dog appears. Its fur is mangy and its heads drool saliva from both mouths as it stares at the lot of you entering its domain with hateful eyes. The left head snaps its jaws at you ferociously, ready to attack.

The rapier plunges deep into the throat of the left head, and it gargles blood and spits some out, roaring a curse in some bestial tongue that isn't quite developed enough for language.

The beast looks wounded but it's still standing even after that hit. It moves forward and jumps somewhere near where Nathaniel and Del are standing. One head bites at Del, while the other takes revenge on Nathaniel.

Beyond the fresh carcass of the slain dog is another death dog, but this one appears to have been dead for a while. A whimper draws your attention to a litter of death dog puppies, a dozen heads trying to nurse on the dead carcass in the back.

The death dog puppies are emaciated and weak from malnutrition. Even if you got them to another nursing death dog they would be fighting healthy death dog pups for resources and would be unlikely to survive. You have no idea how prevalent other death dogs are in the area.

Del shakes his head. "Simpering fool. There is only a right side and a wrong side here." He glares at the elf before sighing and moving towards the entrance of the cave. "My job is done here, if you want to loot amongst the remains, be my guest. I will see you back at the guardhouse." Del exits the cave.

When you enter the city, Del and Cassius bid you farewell. Del runs ahead to the guardhouse while Cassius has some business at the temple of the 8 to take care of.

A grim looking guard looks upon you as you enter the guardhouse. “What are you doing here?” he asks before spitting into a nearby spittoon.

Have them experience a battle? We have some healers from the temple on loan today to help us so nobody would get seriously hurt. It'd be nice for them, but it would also get me to see you in action since I may have another job for you. Interested?"

You all head to the temple at dusk, watching people slowly shuffle in and filling the pews. Inside is a small, humble temple dedicated to the god of light. On the pulpit are 3 people, two humans and a half-elf. One human is smiling warmly, dressed in an acolyte's robes. The other is armored, you gather he might be some sort of security or bodyguard. The half-elf is sitting down behind a harp, unsmiling.

By the time you get there, there's really only space for your group at the second row or the last row, unless you want to sit separately. It looks like the meeting is about to begin, do you do anything or do you just sit down?

Thwick takes a good look at the crowd. They look a lot like the theater-goers: members of all races are included, though they are perhaps a little more segregated. There's about 50 people total, and most of them look to be somewhat disheveled or with tattered clothing, laborers and beggars. These are poor people mostly but every seventh person or so has a nice ring or clean clothes. No one is noble or rich here, no merchants or wealthy caravanners.

roll perception for the bodyguard. he's on stage so you'd have to get up on stage to socialize with him. if you wanted to socialize with the crowd you could pretty much ask a random person whatever you wanted

Tanzime continues his speech.

"Friends, we want to help. We want to lift up the poor, the destitute, the masses of people in this city that are working hard for no reward. Those that cannot work. Those that cannot advance. Those that are cast aside as different. We are all special. We are all great here."

About halfway through his speech, the message starts to change.

"There is a grave threat to all in this city. I speak of werecreatures, people who turn into beasts and commit atrocities. I believe this is part of the reason people are kept down in this city. The Emerald Queen doesn't care about our plight and ignores it and we face this danger, together. But we can exterminate it. If you even so much as suspect anyone of being a werewolf or other creature of the night, please don't hesitate to come forward to me."

He goes back to talking about those living in poverty.

"I don't have enough to give to all of you but I know that one day a reckoning will come to Tel Nadev, where all will be made equal. That is what the prophecies are telling us. That is my hope and dream for this great city."

"Well then. I'd love to speak to some of you and get to know you better. Let me step off this stage and you can ask me anything you want, I'm an open book." He steps off the stage as people start to file out of the pews. Some sycophants come to praise him right away. He catches each of your eyes in turn as he is showered by vapid words from his fans, as if waiting for you to come talk to him.

Tanzime exits the backroom alone and approaches Aulric with a warm smile. "Well, have you thought about it?"
