I've actually been an informed minority that could win with town before though, in Grand Idea Mafia as a sliver (town aligned cult basically). I

might

have betrayed town at the last minute and locked them out of a win at the last moment in that game, but. It was an option I had to win with town as a werewolf! It was just one that meant my werewolf partner I had didn't win.

Neither Benediction or Malediction's intent in finding each other is to kill, but something else, though death will be the end result. It's why I wouldn't have claimed benediction unless I was going to die, even as a last resort.
I won't spoil what it is though.

i highly doubt benediction has both a role that can prevent someone from being roleblocked and a role whose sole purpose is to learn if it gets roleblocked.

I don't know about the arsonist idea, it sounds like it would be underpowered compared to a normal nightkill. Anyway, it sounded to me like Benediction intended to kill, and Rautherdir told Malediction so that they would not hit the same target. Which means, we're missing one kill.

What I'm thinking here is, after Rautherdir flipped Benediction, it is highly unlikely that they would have an ability to block. What would be the point of a checker if they were the ones doing the blocking? My theory is, there is a town roleblocker or jailkeeper, and that is why there was only one death.

Yeah... I'm not even going to wait for someone to publish the result. There really was only one player who looked like obvious scum after yesterday.

No need to rush of course, we have more to discuss. What happened to the Keeper? Rautherdir was talking about them being suspicious for flavor reasons after being hammered, which would be a bizarre thing to do to a partner. So what is the point of learning they're not Benediction?

from what i remember, the difference isn't as much as you would think, but i want to go do the math on that. please hold.

say you have a game with 3 regular maf and 10 town. for our purposes, all the lims will hit town, but it doesn't actually matter.
d1 lim ---> 9v3
n1 kill ---> 8v3
d2 lim ---> 7v3
n2 kill ---> 6v3
d3 lim ---> 5v3
n3 kill ---> 4v3
d4 lim ---> 3v3, game over.

now replace the mafia with arsonists. all the lims are still going to hit town, but once again, it doesn't actually matter for the sake of the comparison. chance to lim a doused player will still be calculated with the possibility of an arso lim in mind.
d1 lim ---> 9v3
n1 ---> douse someone
d2 lim ---> 8v3 (chance to hit doused was 1/12 and let's assume we didn't)
n2 ---> douse someone
d3 lim ---> 7v3 (chance to hit doused was 2/11 and once again, let's assume we didn't)
n3 ---> douse someone
d4 lim ---> 6v3 (chance to hit doused was 3/10 and once again, let's assume we didn't)
n4 ---> ignite, game over.

assuming that no doused people get yeeted, arsonists can theoretically win in only half a day more than a normal mafia.
however, there are some disadvantages, such as:
- doused people getting yeeted
- arsonists not knowing if their douse went through or got prevented
- if they botch an ignite and do it too early, it could add on a couple of days
- if they wifom and do it later than they need, it could also add on a couple of days or end with them getting limmed
- less overall thread influence due to kills being delayed (counter: less information from kills)

but that's oversimplified. our setup is multiball, so we'd also have to consider things like doused people getting killed by the other scum and having to get rid of the other scum to win. but multiball is swingier for normal mafia too.

and one more thing. though arsonists are underpowered when compared to a normal mafia, a setup with arsonists would be balanced around them. instead of doctors, you might see firefighters, for example. there might also be things in the setup to help an arsonist group overcome the disadvantages i listed. like *puts on tinfoil hat* giving the arsonists a checker that can use the check and the douse on the same person and see if the action is successful...

i'm not going to act like i know what benediction actually does, but given the things we do know, i don't think this theory is that crazy.
