A little setup tweak might help. Maybe make it semi-open with just the mason stuff being known, so still potential for other interesting roles? A game with just a mason pair is a bit scumsided (especially with that fact known) and not too interesting for the nonmasons.

ya i think the pest idea could work with some tweaks. as is the game is a really novel experience for like two players and just a normal game for everyone else.

Probably not the place for a drawn out explanation, but semi open actually refers to setups like matrix 6 or C9++ or Great Idea where there are multiple possible setups, but all of those possibilities are made explicit along with a way to choose which setup is being run. What you’re suggesting is a closed with a public design element.
