Rules of Conduct

General Rules/Game Etiquette

Obey all site-wide rules.
Talking outside of the game thread about this game is prohibited, unless your role specifically allows you to.
Quoting
any
private communication into the game thread is not allowed, even if you made it up. You are allowed to quote private moderation communications into any PTs where you are aware of the other member's alignment, (eg., Scum PTs or Mason PT).
Follow the golden rule, (do unto others as you would have them do unto you), at all times. I understand mafia can get heated, but keep it civil.
If you can somehow edit/delete your posts, don't.
Play towards your win-condition at all times. Don't gamethrow. If it looks like you are attempting to gamethrow, I will confirm your intent privately, and if it continues, I will take action.
While not explicitly included in gamethrowing, claiming scum with others is a considerable gray-area. I do not consider it explicitly throwing, but if you wish to do that, or something like that, I ask you explain it to me in PMs what your intent is with that.

Activity/Prods and V/LA

At least once every 48 hours, you must post relevant, game-advancing content, otherwise you will be prodded. This is extended to 72 hours if you are V/LA. If you would hit a prod within the first 12 hours of night starting, (or are due to be prodded at night-start), I will send a PM to you.
I will not replace you for accumulating too many prods, unless I feel it is excessive and it is not addressed via something like a reoccurring V/LA.a
All V/LAs must be declared in thread, via the V/LA tags, or via PM, (through site or Discord is acceptable.) If you send it via PMs, I will publicly announce it at my earliest convivence
If you will have an excessively long V/LA or will not have regular access to the internet/forums for extended periods of time, please request replacement instead.
If you are V/LA when a 48-hour prod timer goes off, I will send you a notice that you are due to be prodded in 24 hours, and I will post in thread that you are due to be prodded in 24 hours.

Deadlines/Player Actions

Unless told otherwise, each day will last up two weeks (14 days), and each night will last two days.
At any time, if the supermajority of all players, (which I define as 80% of the player list), or all living players agree, I will skip the remainder of the night phase, provided I have all actions.
If the day/night is extended for any reason, I will post that in thread.
If you possess any actions, you must submit it via PM, or PT, otherwise it will be treated as if you took no action. If you have a PT,
I highly prefer you submit it in your PT.
If you may target multiple people, you must specify which action targets which player, otherwise I will randomize who it targets.
Scum, by default, are multitasking and can perform the factional action and a personal ability in the same night.

Voting

A simple majority is required to yeet, (half the player list, rounded down, plus one).
If you use an abbreviation of a player's name, please make sure others can understand who you are specifically referring to. Kori is fine, for example, but K is not.
If it looks like a vote, it is a vote, and it will be cast on whoever I think you're trying to vote.
Unvoting before revoting isn't required, but appreciated.

This game is a bastard game. I was told by my reviewers to include this:

This game is a role madness. There are
no
vanilla roles, nor any functionally vanilla roles.
Groupscum are publicly aware of the full PM of all of their partners, and may submit their actions on behalf of them.
If there is a cult present, or cult-like mechanics, they cannot recruit groupscum with living partners.
Role PM flavor plays a part of this game. Story flavor does not apply to the game.
The Dead PT will have no spoilers for this game.
All players are innately multitasking and can take one personal action and one non-personal action, such as a factional kill, if they have access to that.

You aren't dead until you are told by the mod you are dead, and your role has been posted.
When you are dead, you are

allowed to post until the game ends.

Nightmare ReduxOnce again, the Nightmare returns, this time as The Nightmare Redux. Players will once again be voting on Inventions to award someone else in the game, but there's some more interesting options, and a more dynamic selection of player pool. The minimum amount of players needed for The Nightmare Redux to be available is 7. If the game drops below 7 players, The Nightmare Redux will cease to be available.

Additionally, in contrast from the first go-around, the amount of players allowed to participate is dynamic.

A minimum of five players are required to run The Nightmare Redux each night, while it is available,

but the maximum number of players allowed to participate is the number of players

still alive

. There is a whole list of actions available for the Runners to vote on.

If there is no ability that can be awarded with the number of Runners, the Nightmare will occur, but players will be unable to award any ability.

: Runners will vote on one question to ask the moderator about another player's role, excluding anything alignment specific. The answer to this question will be posted at day-start. The full exceptions to this is listed at the bottom.

Vigilante

All PMs are out. All of them are missing how to confirm. Some say "Strange Dreams Mafia Redux" and others say "Weird Dreams Mafia Redux" - this is a typographical error that effects nobody. Please feel free to point and laugh if it makes you feel better. Please submit your abilities, or by posting in a PT if you happen to have access to one to confirm. The minimum amount of players needed each night for the Nightmare is five, with the maximum number of participants allowed in the Nightmare being however many players are left alive. An example proposal would be:

Someone can then either vote those same players, and agree to the proposal, or add their own proposal to the list of proposals. If a player is confirmed in any means, they are not required to be added to future proposals, and the minimum number of players needed to be included in a proposal is reduced by one, to account for the fact out of the five needed players, there is already however many confirmed. An example involving a proposal with a confirmed player in the Nightmare (Korina):

HURT: Maruchan, Oclaxian Empire, T-Bone, Vex Vience

The above is valid, provided one player is already confirmed to run the Nightmare.

A player is confirmed if they are in a proposal that hits majority. In the event that nobody hits majority, the proposal with the most votes will be automatically accepted. In the event no proposal has any votes, or there is a tie, random.org will decide the Runners.

The setup specific rules have been amended to include the fact everyone is naturally multitasking since I forgot to include it in the rule set when updating it for this game. If you have access to an action outside of your personal actions, (such as a factional kill), you are allowed to use it alongside your personal abilities.

p-e: CL-Enabler is clearly not a normal role, why are we even talking about it

1) Yes, that is acceptable. It would be awarded as a 1-Shot invention, and would trigger on the first instance of the role being useful. (Eg., Bulletproof would trigger if the player is attacked at night.)
2) Vengeful is considered an active role, and would trigger if the player is eliminated, and would force the game into twilight.
3) Bulletproof and Ascetic are both considered modifiers, due to their commonality of being a role modifier, and not a role in of itself, (at least from what I've seen.)
(Additional edit to this one that further supports the decision: Under Normal Guidelines both Bulletproof and Ascetic are listed under the modifiers category, and would be treated as a modifier.)

No, nothing awarded via the Nightmare can be prevented or redirected due to it not being considered a player action. Any actions a player takes with a Nightmare reward can be, unless the player’s role states otherwise.

This is a mod announcement Doctor Drew has been confirmed to Run The Nightmare

tonight. All future proposals do not need to include Doctor Drew, and will automatically include him.

All current proposals will be amended to include Doctor Drew when I’m done with work.

I don't understand the Nightmare voting rules.

I thought the Coalition style meant only a whole proposal got approved at once? What's separating this from how it worked before then?

There is now confirmed to be one player running the Nightmare. All future proposals will include Doctor Drew as a result. If people are in favor of a different voting style, that’s ok with me, since the style of how votes are proposed has no mechanical effect on the game. I’m using coalition to preserve my sanity and enable me to make VCs more regularly. FWIW, Coalition voting was decided after the review, but still has zero mechanical effect on the game, outside of ease of modding.

Some notes: there are 13 people voting for a proposal. StD is the only person voting for a proposal without a vote (more of a fun fact really).

Questions: Why haven't usesPython, Radical Rat, Titus, and Abnegation been confirmed. I thought it was simple majority? I am not dumbtelling when I ask this.

Because the full proposal must go through at once. There is no staggered confirmation like the last time I ran this setup because jfc was that horrible to make VCs for. Either the full proposal goes through, or no proposal goes through. The majority of all living players must agree to one proposal for it to go through.

Hello, this is a mod announcement I have been waiting to make. I am, for once in all the time I have moderated games, making a mid-game rules change.

This is a decision I came to with Maruchan during the day, but for fairness of all players involved, I decided to wait until now to post it and finalize the following rules. These rules address activity, and should realistically never come into play, but I am amending them as a result of the fact I, (or one of my headmates), changed my rules to accommodate a shorter deadline period than this game has. Coupled with the numerous reoccurring V/LAs, or technical difficulties the site has had since the start of this game, (and the fact a slot has been without a player for an extended period of time), I am amending the following activity rules:

Rule 1 of Activity/Prods and V/LA is being amended to say the following:

Rule 1 wrote:At least once every 48 hours, you must post relevant, game-advancing content, otherwise you will be prodded. This is extended to 72 hours if you are V/LA. If you would hit a prod within the first 12 hours of night starting, (or are due to be prodded at night-start), I will send a PM to you.

Rule 2 of Activity/Prods and V/LA is being amended to say the following:

Rule 2 wrote:I will not replace you for accumulating too many prods, unless I feel it is excessive and it is not addressed via something like a reoccurring V/LA.

Rule 3 of Activity/Prods and V/LA is being amended to say the following:

Rule 3 wrote:All V/LAs must be declared in thread, via the V/LA tags, or via PM, (through site or Discord is acceptable.) If you send it via PMs, I will publicly announce it at my earliest convivence

Rule 5 of Activity/Prods and V/LA is being added:

Rule 5 wrote:If you are V/LA when a 48-hour prod timer goes off, I will send you a notice that you are due to be prodded in 24 hours, and I will post in thread that you are due to be prodded in 24 hours.

These rule changes will be updated in the OP starting right now, but they will not take effect until the start of day 2. I will send out the extra PM for anyone who is due to be prodded during the night momentarily though.

I cannot answer if any mechanics exist that could prevent someone from receiving an Invention.

If it is handed at the start of the day, the role would be considered a day inventor, and not effected by a night vanillaizer.

OH NOW I CAN FINALLY DISCUSS THIS:

Marshall came from my original homesite, ToS forum mafia. I modified the role a little bit, but Marshall from what I remember of ToSFM was a Rolestopper.

I wanted to include the name Marshall to cast some innate doubt on that slot by having it literally be the cult role from the first game, with a non-standard name.

This was actually one of the key factors of my design and something I want to explore more in-depth with future setups is including atypical/nonstandard scum factions, since the lovers filled the design space of a SK, without me actually including a SK.

An unfortunate part of the setup was scum absolutely got steamrolled, but I genuinely think that was a byproduct of town having extremely solid play, (especially in the nightmare, like holy shit), and finding some unintentional things in the setup.

Something else I can finally answer:

Why couldn’t I answer if masons could be culted? It opened more opportunities for CCS if I never confirmed it, and meant that I never explicitly had to answer anything about the cult, because with a cult, there are a lot of variations of cult leader I could be running. Also it’s really funny to watch people try to guess what I’d allow with a cult in my game LOL.

Oh 100%. I’d never start with scum in a masonry, but I’d 100% let a mason get culted, especially since the CL let you retain all your abilities. If it was a normal CL who vanillaizes you, no.
