NY 151: Playground Mafia (Game Over-Mafia Win!)

Man, what a beautiful day! The sun is shining, the breeze is gentle, and being stuck indoors sucks.
It’s time to get out and throw the ball around.
Time to jump off the swings and see who can go the farthest.
Time to prove you CAN cross the monkey bars without falling.

It’s time to head to the playground.

Only one problem. Bullies. Not the kind that sit at the computer and spam your wall with “Butthead!!”. No, these are the kind that knock you down, sit on you and make you pick your own nose in front of everyone. Then eat it. These are the mean bullies, and they can ruin your day year.

Normally, you just avoid them, since they use fear, while you use speed. This time, something is different. Usually, each bully has staked out their area, and you can spot them at a glance. But this time you don’t spot them. It seems they have blended into the general kid populace, and plan to take over the whole thing. Meanwhile, some kids are playing normally, but some seem to be taking charge and organizing more fun.

Is that a real live kickball game going on over there? Are the bullies just gone?

Suddenly, a girl runs screaming to the Parents Table, slapping herself all over. Her mom grabs her by the hand, and begins brushing her off while dragging her to the car.
The Grapevine providers the scoop, she had an anthill thrown on her.

TWO: DAY PHASE (DP)
I) Each DP shall have a two week deadline. Day 1 will have a 21 day deadline.
II)

Votes must be bolded or they shall not be counted

. This includes the word "Vote", along with the players name. Abbreviating someone's name is acceptable, so long as I can discern who you were voting for without trouble.
III) Unvoting is encouraged, but not required.
IV) Once you have reached a simple majority (half of all living players plus one) that person's fate is sealed and they shall be lynched. Unvoting cannot change their fate.
V)If a simple majority (half of all living players plus one) approve a No Lynch (Vote: No Lynch), then no player shall be lynched and the game shall enter Night Phase. If deadline is reached and no one has received a simple majority of the votes, no one shall be lynched.
VI) Once a player is lynched the game enters twilight until I arrive and post a death scene. All players may continue to post during Twilight.
VII) Prods: Day1-Day3 If you have failed to post for over 60 hours, I will send you a prod. Failure to respond to this prod within 60 hours will result in the replacement of that player.
Day4 on: If you have failed to post for over 48 hours, I will send you a prod. Failure to respond to this prod within 48 hours will result in the replacement of that player.
Force-replacing of flakers/rule-breakers will be occur at my discretion.

rack is swinging along on the tire swing, when a nudge from behind spins him around.

Another nudge from running kids spins him faster.

Another helpful soul stops the tire, and rack goes flying, coming up with a mouth full of dirt.

His mother sees this, and goes over to help. She brushes him off, and leads him protestingly to the Parents Table.

As play continues a rousing game of stick swordfight breaks out. A few kids head to the undeveloped lot next door to uproot some bamboo, while others head to the garbage cans to grab shields. Battle begins


As the melee makes its way through the playground, some mothers frown, but stay silent.

The maelstrom of whirling *swacks* gets to the seesaw.



In the rush past, Antihero, while grounded, gets knocked off. He lands with a dazed WOOF as all of the air is knocked out of him.
vijay2vasandani, up in the air, is not expecting his sudden plummet to the ground. He hits hard, rolls over, and sits up with a giant sob.

Their mothers come over to collect them.

Antihero has left the playground.

Seacore has been lynched!

Picked third for the kickball game, Seacore was catching everything that went up in the air. His team didn’t last long “at bat”, but his play kept the other team from scoring any points.

Waiting in line to play is not as fun as playing.

While Seacore goes to get a drink of water, the teams quickly confer, and a plan is reached.

The next time his team takes the field, Seacore is the pitcher. As he rolls one into the plate, the well-placed and well-timed kick sends the ball straight into Seacore’s nose.



The howl of pain causes the whole playground to stop and look. Seacore’s blood-spattered face brings his Mom quickly to his side, where she leads him, still crying and bleeding, off the field and to the Parents Table.

Kublai Khan runs over to the merry-go-round just as it’s slowing down. He jumps on, and it slowly comes to a stop.


“Last on, you have to push!”

With a grunt of annoyance, Kublai Khan leaps off and gets a solid grip in the metal bar. A few more people jump on,
but leave him alone to push. He strains, and gets the merry-go-round started.


Straining mightily, Kublia Khan goes around and around and around and around and jumps on!

But there’s no room, and he collides with someone and flies back off, scraping his arm and rolling 20 feet. Then starts the deep indrawn breaths as the stings of 10,000 ants attack his nerve endings.

drmyshotgun notices and says “Hey, that kid’s hurt!” while standing up to leap off and help.
A little shove from behind and drmyshotgun joins Kublia Khan in the abrasions and contusions club.

Their moms’ radar goes off, and they hurry over to collect their kids.




No worries. There’s help for them.

Mastin’s mom scoops him up and carries him away at arms length, barely controlling her gag reflex.

It's a hot day, and ice and water are a favorite to help everyone cool down. Before too long, the ice melts, and water becomes the weapon of choice. As cups are refilled and lobbed all over the place, someone is still using Styrofoam and has some ice left.

In the melee, it gets tossed down Lady Lambdadelta's back.

She arches forward with a hiss and a cry, and then turns around and haymakers a kid flat on his ass.

"That's cold!!" she screams, pulling her shirt away from her body and shaking it to get the ice out and prevent the dread drop into the pants.

Her mother rushes over and grabs her by the ear.
"I saw that young lady! We are not a bully! We don't hit other kids!"
She drags Lady Lambdadelta off by her ear.

Lady Lambdadelta has left the playground.

Nero Cain climbs to the largest branch of the tree. It easily holds his weight. He shimmies across it and over the fence surrounding the playground. As he nears the end of the branch, it droops more and more with his weight. Getting a good grip, he hangs for a second, and then drops onto the grass outside the playground. Spying a Stop-n-Go, he jingles the change in his pocket and heads over to buy a Slurpee.

His mom finally notices, gives a little shriek, and hurries after him.

It’s not long before the balls come out a pickup game of soccer gets started. In an even shorter time, the reason is clear why it’s called “The World’s Deadliest Sport”.

With the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, the patrons of the playground are treated to an extra bonus while the professional fireworks display is set up and tested.




However, it seems someone has brought their own fireworks.




Of course, someone is always getting hurt. This time, StrangerCoug suffers 2nd degree burns. His screams bring his mother running, and she scoops him up and takes him to the hospital. His injuries are soon up on Facebook, and a brief pause ensues while everyone gets thier comments up.


The moral of this day is clear:

That familiar sound rolls across the playground. Parents wearily dig in their purses and pockets for change, while the kids shriek and run over to be first in line.


However, one mom is having trouble finding any change.


And by the time Maxous gets over there, the truck has metlted in the hot sun.


OK, not really, but the truck has definitely moved on.


The resulting fit pitched by Maxous entices his mother to leave the playground immediately, screaming Maxous in tow.

Short notes about the game:
There is no need to go into details, but the short of it is when Andrew was suspected of cheating, he was forced replaced. This is not an indication of guilt, but an attempt on my part to keep game enjoyable for all. I know some may not be happy with the decision, but it was mine alone to make and I bear the full burden of any consequences.
My goal was to keep the game pure for those alive and playing in it at the time.
Feelings after the game can be sorted out, but while you were alive and playing, I wanted the tension to exist and for players to enjoy the effort of catching scum or eluding town.
I feel this goal was successful, but am willing to listen to criticism on how I should have done things differently.

Originally the game included a miller, but I was talked into dropping that for a VT. The review thread was pretty back and forth, but I really wanted to see the power of a six man mafia team. And I wanted the basic roles in there. I also wanted a Universal Backup, to see how that played out.
Based on setup, I felt the town had a good (read: better than 50%) chance of winning.
Once roles were assigned, that dropped somewhat (read: a lot).
Once the first night passed, I had scum at a 70% chance of winning.
This later swung back towards town.
In the end, I think that balance was there, considering it went down to the wire.
A very enjoyable game to watch the last few days.

Thank you to all the replacements that filled in. This was one of the hardest aspects of modding a game this size. Quilford filling in for DV with 100 pages and then being nighkilled was the toughest, but many people still came through for me, and for that I thank you.

Antihero had 50% of the mafia team early game, which impressed me.
Nero later makes a pretty accurate LLD case, which didn't go anywhere but did identify her as mafia where everyone pretty much had her as town.

The FakeGod lynch on day4 required 8 to lynch. 4 of those were mafia. I wonder how things might have been different if FakeGod hadn't been bussed. This would have been even more relevant had town won.

LLD made some executive changes to night actions that really helped the mafia team, especially night 1 and night 2.

I felt bad for the masons getting both killed so early, and then Gunny taking over the empty QT. It's funny that it did happen that way, in hindsight, but that took away some town power.
