goddamn I've had the worst luck with arenas recently

My last two selections of classes have been Warlock/Warrior/Hunter and Warlock/Hunter/Druid.

In my past four runs I've seen zero epics or legendaries

I did have a nice little 5-3 run a couple days ago with a Paladin deck... seriously, Paladins are borked in arena

I'd say that Paladin, Mage, Rogue, and Shaman are all very fucking good and pretty close to one another when it comes to Arena (maybe Shaman a bit less so but still close-ish).

Warlock/Hunter/Warrior are just shitty. Card choices suck for Arena, worthless/less useful hero powers. Priest CAN be very strong if you get the right card pool but it's hard to do.

Rogues are busted as shit because their hero ability means you'll always be able to attack. Having your own hero be able to smash into an enemy for damage is more often than not the difference between board advantage and losing the game.

Warlock ability is terribly costed compared to the other card draw in the game:

Warlock: 2 mana & 2 life = 1 card
Arcane Intellect: 3 mana = 2 cards
Battle Rage: 2 mana = 1+ card
Flare: 1 mana = 1 card
Mortal Coil: 1 mana = 1 card + 1 damage

So the hero ability is pretty shitty in comparison with literally any other card draw ability in the game. Gnomish Inventor & Novice Engineer give you a minion AND a card. Plenty of other cards (Cult Master, Acolyte of Pain, Gadgetgazan Auctioneer) let you replace cards you lose, and none of them involve having to lose 2HP to do it.

In constructed play, Warlock ends up working because it can build board control with minions then use the hero power when you're safe to build card advantage, waiting for removal/wipes. In arena play, you can't guarantee you'll get enough things to protect you enough to warrant the ability being useful. At least IMO -- aggro tends to win in Arena, and Warlock aggro isn't really a thing.

Eh? Aggro in this context doesn't mean fast small dudes, it means constantly PLAYING attacking threats to whittle away their health bar. If you're building an aggro deck with no fatties for late game then you're doing it wrong.

I think Paladin/Mage/Rogue are all tier 1.

Druid/Shaman tier 2.

Priest is okayish tier 2.5

Shit tier is Hunter/Warrior/Warlock.

Yeah I finished with 8 wins. Wound up playing 3 paladin decks back to back and just got rolled.

Headcrack was a surprising all-star. With the curve so low, I could combo it off every turn for a recurring two damage. It literally was the only reason I won a couple of really close games.

- Don't play Mirror Image, it's bad.
- Absolutely play two Arcane Missiles if you only have basic cards, it's good.
- Absolutely play two Frostbolts, they're great. 2 mana for 3 damage that has a useful secondary effect against fatties/'late game.
- Frostwolf Grunt, Ironfur Grizzly, Silverback Patriarch, Stormwind Knight are all pretty bad creatures.

Couple of things to consider when playing this deck:

- You can use your hero power on your own Gurubashi Berserker to give it +3 attack
- Bluegill Warriors should usually be used as removal (aka, slam them into something to kill something bigger)
- Hold Acidic Swamp Ooze back against classes that love weapons (Rogue; Warrior; Hunter; Paladin). Otherwise, you can play them on curve.
- Deck strategy is to chip away at their health bar and slowly beat them down until they're in range for something like a buffed fireball + frostbolt. You want to basically surprise them and catch them off guard and kill them off in one turn when they're under about 15 health

Paladin is a great class! My only legendary (opened in my first pack ever) was a Paladin legendary so that's all I've been playing

Lately gotten a lot of hunter draws for arena, and must say hunters are incredibly fun to play.
I play Paladin in arena as a very combo based strategy looking to get the maximum number of minions on the field possible and use my 1/1 recruits to trade up when possible.

Paladin weapons are fantastic... grab every Truesilver Champion you see, and take Sword of Justice over any other epic.

You're going to play the control game, forcing unfavorable trades then wiping their board with a well timed Consecration. For the rares, Aldor Peacekeeper is the best class card, whereas Knife Juggler/Argent Commander are the best neutral cards. Knife Juggler, if you can protect, gets out of control very quickly with Paladin's class ability.

You want to run over them with minions, so you want to grab cards that combo well with other minions on the board. That 1/1 recruit suddenly can trade with their 3 toughness dude when you throw out Dark Iron Dwarf. Stormwind Champion suddenly means you have an infinite source of repeatable 2/2s every turn. Your opponent will laugh at your army of 1/1 recruits until you drop a Frostwolf Warlord on curve and make it an 8/8 or 9/9 on turn 5. An army of 1/1s also gets really scary when you drop a Cult Master and get a shitload of card draw off of each of those little derps.

Paladins have no outright removal, so making favorable trades is where it's at... this is enabled by Truesilver Champion (4 damage weapon, gain 2 life when you attack) since it can hit MOST threats and kill them. Consecration allows you to wipe out 4-5 dudes at once if you trade properly. Blessing of Kings means your derpy 1/1 is now a 5/5 and they have to waste time trading with you and losing card advantage. Hammer of Wrath is 3 damage and card draw and is a very good card. Equality, if timed correctly, means their mean little lineup of fat dudes are suddenly nothing when your recruits suicide into them.

The typical cards that are good in arena are good here, too (Harvest Golem, Chillwind Yeti, Acidic Swap Ooze, Boulderfist Ogre, Scarlet Crusader, etc) so pack a bunch of the great neutral cards with the great Paladin class cards and you have a deck that will be able to favorably trade up nine times out of ten then just laugh as you mercilessly beat them to death with fatties. Good luck!

PS: Don't ever play low curve all out aggro Paladin because it won't work.

Sorry, I should've been more clear: I meant that playing Blessing of Kings on your minion is a net 0 card loss for you (maintain status quo), while your opponent will have to sacrifice at least 1, more often 2 cards, to deal with the 5/5 minion that cost you no cards at all.

There are tons of targets... over half of the deck is potential defender targets. And at the worst, they give me 2 2/2s with taunt (with my hero power)

The goal of having the defenders in there is just to control the board and stall the game out longer

Deck has been working a lot better, for some reason. Avenging Wrath is just a wipeout most times. And I think Abomination being another combo board wipe with Equality is really good... and Harvest Golem is able to survive Equality + Wild Pyromancer combos and maintain board control. It's not perfect, obviously, but I'm digging the way it's going. I think if I had Ragnaros, Cairne, and maybe Sword of Justice I'd be good

heal isn't bad in a control deck. are you high
I don't like to use my hero power a lot so ??? and the idea behind Pyromancer is it gives cheap combo board wipes w/ Consecration & Equality, and if not, then it's a 3/2 that can trade with a x/4 dude if I play a spell and swing
why would I run Blessing of Kings in a pallycontrol deck? I'm not aggro in the slightest, Kings is pretty useless here
Twilight Drake is fine since by the time I play it I usually havent played anything else anyway so I'm getting a 4/8 on turn 4 aka VALUEEEEE
Divine Favor isn't very good card draw when playing control and I have more cards in hand than my opponent 9/10 times

ek0p's Paladin deck looks a hell of a lot like the one I scrambled together last night:

- He's running Sunfury Protector instead of Defender of Argus (which I had discussed swapping out anyway)
- He has more legendaries than me so that's obviously a big difference
- He has three Giants in his deck... I get the Mountain Giant, Sea Giant seems odd... I guess he takes damage till he can play Sea Giant then heals himself back up

A 4 mana 4/3 dies to way too many 2 mana creatures.


A card that only heals is not bad. You're placing value on that heal. 2 mana for 6 life is good, and you can use it to top off a minions health, too. Surviving against aggro decks is hard without heals to get me to that turn 6 sweet spot. I feel like you're talking about maybe a Pally aggro deck and are not considering how control decks work.

The only life total that matters is zero. Being lower on life doesn't mean someone is losing. It's all about keeping tempo and buying time

WHEEEE! just went 10-3 in Arena (best record so far) and pulled an Al'Akir the Windlord out of the prize pack!!

Second legendary yay (although he's rather underwhelming).

Never touched Shaman, so I just got my Shaman to level 10 and I'm running this:

Yeah I just threw it together quickly. I kind of hold early game with one or two threats and some burn and then go balls out mid game to win in 2-3 turns.

Raging Worgen is usually dead so it's pretty bad.
Ironfur Grizzly is okay but I wouldn't take it unless the other two options just sucked ass.
I don't think there's a card I'd take Secret Keeper over in the game. Except Alarm-O-Bot. Fuck that card.
Repentance and Redemption are both really bad.
Ironbeak Owl really is okay but might've been overkill since you have two Spellbreakers.
Murloc Tidehunter is never the right pick unless your other two options were like... Wisp & Goldshire Footman.

back to back arena runs on Paladin with literally the worst card pools I've ever gotten in arena

Mind Control Tech/Auctioneer/Mana Addict as my choices both times

The only decent Rare or higher I got was one Avenging Wrath the second go around

I had Imp Master both times as my "best" rare. ugh i hate this damn game sometimes

Mind Control Tech is completely dependent upon letting your opponent get massive board control over you and then hoping you grab something good and not the 1/1.

He's not the worst rare but he's far from one of the best. I can think of like at least 10-20 off the top of my head I'd want over him.

Tinkmaster is just dead now, why not just remove it from the game?

Pagle definitely isn't great now. I have one, I'm debating on DE it for full dust cost, but I don't know what to craft. It's my only neutral legendary. I have Al'Akir and Tirion Fordring.

I was leaning towards Cairne or Rag... I actually think Cairne got a lot better with Tink/Pagle nerfs.

Pagle may still be borderline playable but he won't be better than Mana Tide Totem now.

@Plum: Don't be scared of ranked! You literally can't drop below the first few ranks once you start playing so you have nothing to lose :)

Yeah Tink is basically Gelbin Mekkatorque now (as far as value).

I figure if I dust Pagle now to craft Cairne or Rag that's fine as I can always craft Pagle again if his value doesn't tumble too much.

@Everyone: What's the best neutral legendary to craft if I have Tirion & Al'Akir? Although, it looks like Aggro is just strong as fuck right now, so maybe Leeroy or Rag are the right bets of Ysera or Sylvanas?

Oh I didn't see Mirror Entity or Ice Barrier (both are bad usually).

It's more than the two Flamestrikes though... it's that Argent Commander/Silver Hand Knight/Water Elemental/Sen'jin Shieldmasta/Mana Wyrm are some of the best creatures to have for mage

I don't see Pyroblast anywhere?

I generally think vanilla bodies are pretty bad unless they're huge value (Chillwind Yeti/Boulderfist Ogre for example). It's too easy to get removed immediately and they do nothing to help board state when they're played

It develops as you start running into decks with better cards and more synergy, yes. Although a pro player just hit legend rank with a free only shaman deck.

Essentially, you can make a deck with whatever you want, but think of everything as wanting to get card advantage.

Deck synergies need to focus on maintaining board control while maintaining card advantage. There are a few exceptions to this (namely the Warlock Zoo deck that is the bane of my existence right now) but it's a good rule to follow for the most part.

Aggro decks want to play cheap guys that can go to the face, or in the case of stuff like Zoo, play cheap small dudes then buff them to trade with bigger dudes. Examples of popular aggro decks right now are: Aggro Hunter, Warlock Zoo Rush, Paladin Rush

Control decks want to keep the board clear of threats in the early to mid game until they can start slamming down their win conditions in the form of big mana fatties. Check out these decks for examples: Control Warrior, Control Shaman, Control Priest, Giants Paladin

Midrange decks want to slowly build to a scary board in the middle turns of the game and win quickly after that: Midrange Shaman, Midrange Budget Druid, Midrange Warrior

Combo decks are few and far between, but still fun: Druid Tokens, Miracle Rogue

If you're looking for a budget deck to play, Warlock Zoo and Budget Druid are both great. Most halfway decent decks are going to need epics/legendaries though... although, one of the professional players DID just reach legend rank using this Free to Play Shaman deck. No rares or crazy cards required.

Yeah but the battletag system works on all Blizzard games, including World of Warcraft, and you can add people cross-servers there (it's kinda the point of the battletag system).

They're both the most hated decks in the game right now. I've found two counters to them: Warrior Control, and out-aggroing them.

Also have about a 60% winrate against them on my Shaman control deck but it's less reliable than the other two

Hmmm.

So, yeah, this deck actually isn't bad. It's very all or nothing, but here are my suggestions for the future:

- You probably want at least one Mind Control. It's a pretty excellent late game card. Two might be overkill but one can outright win the game for you.
- I know it's tempting to go for Acolyte of Pain in this deck, but the amount of ::effort:: required to make him pay off is pretty not worth it.
- Don't play Shieldbearer in this deck. Just... don't.
- Holy Nova is a pretty good Priest card that'll outright win some games on Turn 5 against Aggro, I'd throw a couple in there.
- No Temple Enforcer!? WHAAAAAT! That card is the tits.

I don't really get the appeal of Harvest Golem. I see a lot of people playing them, but they have yet to give me any trouble whatsoever. Those other minions are definitely solid. I'm actually considering taking out Frostwolf Warlord. It's definitely nice to have when you have a well populated board, but it is unreliable. Then again, having your minions simultaneously shout ‘For the Horde’ and ‘For the Alliance’ while you attack is pretty funny :p I've also been toying with the idea of putting Young Priestesses in there, but they may be a little too fragile to be worth it.
Harvest Golem is very hard for opponents to deal with effectively in terms of card advantage. Usually they wind up spending two cards to deal with the Golem + the 2/1 dink left behind... or at the very least, they end up spending one card + their hero power which sets their curve back a turn. Maybe a 2/3 and 2/1 aren't that scary but you're paying 3 mana for essentially a 4/4 that has to be killed twice.

Oh yeah get rid of the Mogushan Warden too. He's bad. Sen'Jin Shieldmasta is a much better taunt body.

You're taking up a card in your deck that essentially says "1 Mana: Heal 4 Health". It's not that great in the deck you're trying to run here. You're a Priest, to boot... you have enough incidental heal (and a heal power) that you shouldn't care if you take some extra damage early

That's the problem. You really should be (using that mana for other stuff).

Wondering if I should start saving up gold NOW for the Naxxramas adventure mode... they still haven't announced how much each wing costs to unlock, but since it's a one-time unlock I can't imagine it's cheap.

Hmmm. I wonder if it's worth it to save up for the wings... that means no Arena runs, only doing dailies, and it'll take about a 1.5-2.5 weeks to save up enough for one wing.

I'd bet the wings will be about $10 to unlock? Maybe $5, but that seems incredibly cheap (considering 150 coins = $2).

Yeah I haven't tried it in Ranked. I only have about four decks I'll play in Ranked -- Shaman, Zoo, Huntard, and Paladin Control. Just had a "win 5 games as Warlock" quest, went 5-0 with Zoo, finally hit Rank 10.

Yeah, that Rogue list is fine... although, if you were going to invest in those neutral cards, both Zoo (Warlock) and Aggro Hunter use basically the same minions and are better decks.

The best Rogue deck around is Miracle Rogue, and that's not even that great anymore.

Also I created my own spreadsheet for this season, but I included several tabs for each deck I play to have its own individual stats, an aggregate page to measure overall performance, and more stats for my winrates as each class vs each opponent class

The best time to disenchant is going to be right after balance changes in a patch, because for two weeks any cards that had balance changes will DE for their full amount.
You cannot disenchant soulbound cards, meaning the cards you get either by creating a new account or the cards you get as a reward for leveling up the classes.

Beat Anub & Faerlina with ramp druid. Taunt taunt taunt. Takes a few tries to get the perfect mulligan but once you get it, it's easy.

Beat Maexxna with a healadin deck... basically, start out by throwing down Stonetusk Boar and Voodoo Priest (w/e his name is), they'll constantly return to your hand... keep doing it until you hit a Consecration, cast the thing when she has 4 of the 1/2 guys that creates 2 1/1s... floods her board with 1/1s and she can't cast anything else. Then you heal through the initial onslaught using Earthen Ring Farseer/Voodoo Priest/Holy Light until you get to 7 mana, then you just cast Guardian of Kings -> GoK + Voodoo every turn to outheal the 7 damage she's throwing at you. Any time you are at 8+ HP, you instead throw out GoK + Wolfrider to get in 3 damage... alternate GoK/Wolf with GoK/Voodoo every turn to whittle her down, then slam down two strong charge guys (I used Argent Commander + Wolfrider) once she's in kill range.

I usually go 7-8 wins but holy fuck do I hate it. Arena is boring as fuck. I would rather do pretty much anything else. At this point instead of doing arena runs, I just buy a pack for 100g every other day.

pick paladin or mage (or rogue, if available)

Then there's just basic draft strategy based on pick priority. Never try to go for card synergies with the neutral cards, just pick the "bombs": Chillwind Yeti, Harvest Golem, Dark Iron Dwarf, Argent Commander, Azure Drake, Knife Juggler, etc. Build a deck with good value dudes in each slot and don't worry about anything else.

I'm probably missing some cards but that's the basic deck idea.

FUN THINGS TO KNOW:

You can easily and pretty consistently open up the game with some combination of Coldlight Oracle + Naturalize. This forces them to draw FOUR cards usually on turn 3/4 (or earlier with coin), which makes them start burning cards. They have to make suboptimal plays just to empty their hand so they're not burning away legendaries off the top deck. This strategy kicks special ass against Handlock & Miracle Rogue. Yeah, go ahead and hold onto your cards, asshole.

I usually use the Auctioneers early to draw through my deck... play out the Violet Teachers, then use the rinkydink spells to pump out 1/1s, trade into any taunt guys, and finish with a Savage Roar + Power of the Wild combo for tons of damage.

Deck can struggle against Zoo & Aggro, particularly, because of the lack of taunts. This is why Thalnos + Drake + Swipe are in the deck.

This deck is all or nothing. You draw through fucking everything then hope your hand full of spells can do enough shit to turn that army of 1/1s into killing machines, and usually it can. I won about 8/10 games w/ this last night.

I just paid for it... 700 a week times 4 weeks means you need 2800g... which, based on current arena runs, is $2 per 150 gold. That means that 2800g is about $35... or just pay $20 to get the whole thing.

They can't change any mana costs on the secrets, otherwise it defeats the purpose of the secret since people would know what you played if its mana cost was different.

It's not about just turning profit... it's possible to break even (Booster = 100g, + 50g back) after just one win. It's guaranteed after 4/5 wins. 7 wins is where you get booster + 150g back.

If you can reliably get 4-5 wins on each arena run, it's just as gold efficient as buying packs. Granted, you also have to consider the 7-8 matches you'll have to play on that arena run. I was only grinding arenas for awhile but goddamn does that format take a toll on you.

Both of you are just incorrect if Mage isn't #1 overall. You judge it based on what each class brings to the table with their class specific cards. No class comes close to touching Mage's suite of class commons [Flamestrike, Fireball, Water Elemental, Frost Bolt, Polymorph] except MAYBE Paladin [Truesilver Champion, Consecrate, Blessing of Kings, Argent Protector, Hammer of Wrath].

GODS:
Mage/Paladin

GOOD:
Druid, Shaman, Rogue (ish)

BAD:
Rogue (ish), Priest, Hunter

SHIT:
Warlock, Warrior

I've already explained why Mage/Paladin are far and away the best... they offer the best commons, which are what you'll have access to more often than not.

Druid has a pretty good suite of class cards in rares & epics [Ancients, Keeper of the Grove, Starfall] and a few worthy commons [Ironbark Protector, Swipe, Druid of the Claw].

Shaman is mage-like in its commons but comes in slightly less with only Hex, Axe, and Fire Elemental as great commons (then a huge drop off to stuff like Forked LIght

Warlock has NO commons I'd want to take... maybe Shadow Bolt? I don't know. That class just sucks in arena when you can't build around specific strategies.

Warrior's problem is that their good commons are all ones that require Warrior to take face damage to get value (War Axe, Reaper, Weaponsmith).

Nothing feels better than watching someone kill your Sludge Belcher, only to trigger Avenge (which makes the ooze left behind a 4/4 instead of a 1/2) and then Redemption (bringing back that 5/1 belcher).

I've got Thalnos, Pagle, Leeroy, Ragnaros, Gruul, Al'Akir, Tirion, King Krush, Gelbin Mekkatorque, and all of the Naxx cards.

P.EDIT: "In theory it wants to be winning turn 5/6, but sometimes that doesn't happen." Right, sometimes you get bad draws, but the solution is not to slot in cards that don't play to the deck's primary strengths.

Comparing RDW in MTG to Hearthstone isn't really valid as they're not the same game. Different rules, different cards, different interactions. If you're making that comparison, saying you should play Loatheb in this shell is like saying you should play counterspells in an aggro deck so they can't remove your creatures. You want to be maximizing your mana->damage ratio, which is why coining into hero power is sometimes correct. This deck doesn't really care about your opponent removing your creatures as long as they get damage in. If played properly, you should usually be 2 hero power + Leeroy away from killing them. And it's pretty consistent.

Tracking into Kill/Leeroy/Kill is such a rare and improbable occurance that I'm willing to take the risk. In a game of heavy RNG, Tracking into that specific combo (I'm bad at math, but using my limited knowledge of hypergeometric distribution, there is something like a 0.02% chance of happening, up to like 0.04% if you don't have KC/KC/LJ in your opener) is the least of my concerns.

I'm pretty consistently winning T5/T6, or losing. Face Hunter is very all or nothing, but increasing the consistency of damage going through makes it more all than nothing. SOMETIMES, if it goes to T7, I can pull off Leeroy/UTH combo.

The point of the creepers is that they're guaranteed damage in one way or another (unless they get silenced)... and in that case, they just wasted a silence on a creeper instead of something more valuable.

Control Paladin actually dumps on the current Hunter decks. (Especially if you have a Harrison Jones to toss in.)
Equality+Pyro & Consecration gives you FOUR board wipes against it.
Run Belcher, Sunwalker, Taz. Guardian of Kings, Lay on Hands. Hunter can do nothing.

Backspace Rogue actually does well against Hunter -- you either outrace Face Hunter, or crush Midrange Hunter.

Also, a few Priest builds seem well equipped to deal with Hunter, but I have like no Priest cards and have no experience with the class so I don't know.

5 mana leeroy is just awkward because typically you're doing Hero Power + Animal Companion or Kill Command on T5 to get them in range for Leeroy+Hero Power on T6. It also fucks up the awesome Leeroy+UTH combo for finishers.

I don't think UTH is insane because it has synergy and can board clear things... every class has crazy combos/synergy. Nobody is complaining about Shaman's Unbound Elemental+Lightning Storm combo, which wipes the board and gives you a 3/5 at the end of it all.

I'm not in favor of making a 50% coin flip trigger each time a beast is summoned, that's silly. That wouldn't fix the problem, as sometimes it would still end up drawing you a card every time. If you don't make UTH beasts, then there's no insane burst 5-draw combo. Sure, maybe people can get away with playing lower cost beasts to synergize, but then the card is just replacing itself, they're not actually gaining card advantage.

I mean what's going to have spot removal for stuff like that? Mage with Polymorph and Shaman with Hex. I don't think Shaman will be incredibly popular though.
