I'm fairly sure that Speed Boost isn't allowed on Torchic, even though other hidden abilites are available. I think I remember CC saying that in the Mish Mash Game List a while ago.

Why are they considering banning Deoxys-D? In my 111 battles on the ladder, I haven't even seen one of them. Also, I've managed to deal with the other two fairly easily as well, but that's mostly because M-Venu is awesome.

Probably, but it will probably count as you /out'ing and then re /in'ing with a different Pokemon, so you wouldn't be able to take the ones that were taken in-between you taking Serperior and now.

Hi.

First a few questions.
A: Is this all happening onsite or offsite?
B: Are elimination matches going to be public or private with everyone else only seeing the results?

Aside from that, I don't want this to turn into a social game, so don't bother asking me for alliances or anything similar. I'm just going to give each challenge my all, and as much as I enjoy competitive Pokemon battling I'm going to attempt to do as little of that as possible while still remaining in the game.

I can't think of anything else to say right now. Good luck everyone, and may hax not ruin anyone's game.

Seriously though, I really hope that the first elimination battle is not going to be a 1v1. Yeah Chikorita may be good for support, but that doesn't mean much if it's forced to go 1v1 against a fire type.

Anyway, I was actually expecting the first batch of Pokemon available to be terrible, but it turns out there's actually some really strong Pokes here. This is going to be hard to decide already, though I know what I'm probably going to end up with no matter what I put on my list though.

Also, I'm kind of suprised that the lowest down on anyone's list it got to was 10th.

And on the plus side, JJ isn't going to be using a FEAR Rattata. Instead he's probably going to be using swagger/foul play Purrloin. I don't think that's actually better for us.

Fletchling/Azurill were my top two. Bidoof/Patrat/Poochyena/Zigzagoon tied for last, because I couldn't bother looking up anything about them, and I don't remember seeing good sets for any of them before.

I think Wingull does eventually get fairly defensive, though I'd agree that Whooper is flat out better for that in the long run. I'm not really thinking in terms of teams though because protean, so...

Basically, Talonflame kills itself to kill everyone else.

And you should totally use big pecks, then flame body when it evolves. They are so much better than it's other ability.

At least Sableye doesn't rely on hax in order to be useful at all.

I think Cosmic Power Clefable/Siglyph are more annoying though. because you have to rely on hax in order to beat them at all if they ever get a free turn. And they can't be toxic stalled, which is usually the way I end up dealing with annoying things. Except Purrloin. The way to deal with that is never use non-attacking moves while it's out/has a decent chance of switching in.

Siglyph is usually Flame Orb with Cosmic/Stored Power/Roost/Psycho Shift. Is Psycho Shift affected by Magic Bounce?

And I didn't say that they were unbeatable, just more annoying than Liepard. I'm not changing my Mega to counter an annoying gimmick set.

I have a max SpA Mega Venusaur on my team. I immediatly send it out as soon as Clefable comes in. Sludge Bomb only does 60-70% damage with one boost up, and if they go for a second one then usually they can Softboiled on the next turn after I leave them at like no health. I'll give you that Sigilyph usually has problems against people who know what they're doing, but for some reason Clefable just about almost always works against me.

No, but I have other ways to deal with Sigilyph so he doesn't annoy me as much. The problem is Venu should beat easily Clefable hands down, but he never does for some reason.

The main thing here is I'm too lazy to build more than one team, so my bias is based on only having that one team.

I really hope that this is going to be meaningless though, and if someone does try to use one of those sets I will do everything in my power to get that person eliminated.

I kind of think that Ninjask is better than Shedinja. Even with getting two Pokemon for one, I don't actually think Nincada was the absolute best choice that round. I actually had him fifth.

Aside from that, why the heck was Hoppip the last Pokemon chosen? Jumpluff is actually fairly good. I'm not going to say the set here because I don't want to affect the upcoming battle, but I will say that it was tenth priority for me, above Ekans and Pichu.

No, moody is banned under it's own clause, not under evasion clause. The evasion raise is one of the reasons why it was banned, but not the only one. I remember reading about this a while ago for some reason, even though I think it was already banned by the time I started battling.

But yeah, it's banned either way.

Aside from them and the banned Pokemon (which I assume CC just won't give us access to), the only bans are Gengarite and Kangaskhanite. For now everything else is allowed.

And the battle is not open for public viewing unless the winner wants it to be. Because of this, you are only allowed to watch the battle live if both of them agree on it.

I personally think that games should be best of one for the exact same reason why it's completely up to the winner's discretion on whether to release the game or not. Not knowing exactly what to expect and adapting to it is an integral part of Pokemon battling. That aspect is completely removed if best of threes are played, or if you watch a battle where someone is using the same team that you are going to be facing.

Also in my opinion, what to do in this specific scenario depends on the first time the words best of three were said. If it was before the first battle, then cxinlee should move on. If it was after, then TeirShift should.

GG, and sorry we had to fight this early.

On one hand, I kind of feel sorry that I specifically made sure Froakie had HP Steel to deal with Cleffa, but on the other hand there's no way he would have Ice Beamed first turn if he didn't accidentally start off with level 100 Pokemon, so he knew I was going to taunt.

And Orc, I bet on you mostly because of your performance in the puzzle challenge in Mass Effect, where you got second. That was the only information that I could think of for gauging performance in puzzle challenges. That said, I'm fine enough with Buizel even if it isn't exactly what I wanted, since Floatzel was by far the most OP Pokemon I've had during story mode of a game that I played.

Kecleon also has base 60 SpA, so I don't think it actually matters as much on him.

I can't say that Tier had the better team, I just misplayed terribly. I can blame the fact that I was rushing myself, so I didn't do as many calculations and speed checks as I really should have, but I really think it just comes down to the fact that I just assumed I was going to win for the most part. Just further proof that I'm absolutely terrible at everything I do.

Oh well, if I'm still allowed to, I'll be available for Pokemon analyses and practice battles if anyone wants them.

I still think I would have won if I wasn't an idiot and let Zubat die like that. I knew ahead of time that he was going to be my MVP if I won, even with how OP Froakie is.

I don't actually know how beneficial the Spikes were, though I wouldn't be suprised if that is what let Woobat kill Whismer before he got a banded ice punch off. The Toxic Spikes wouldn't have been as much of an issue if I didn't temporarily forget that Calm Mind raised SpD as well, and sent in Buizel for him to outspeed and ice punch before getting killed then sending in Froakie.

Yes I know it's not a Froakie anymore, I'm just too lazy to figure out how to spell it's name.

Feebas had Haze, which I could just spam every turn until Poison kills me, then kill Woobat with anyone I wanted to. I really just wasn't thinking.

Yeah, I don't think it's possible for either person to force themselves to win at this point, so I think that another round would still be required. Maybe CC decided that since the captains were already decided, that means that the challenge is over, and order in the original list was used as the tiebreaker, but since there don't appear to be any specific rules in this I can't say for certain, and CC left before I realized that I didn't understand that part.

The only difference it makes is who gets Diglett and who gets Ferro though, since those were the exact top two for both of them. It doesn't affect anyone else, so I didn't think it was worth holding back the results from everyone else until this was clarified.

It's not hax when a move is spammed. It's 10% freeze chance, and 10% crit chance. I think Ice Beam has 16 PP on Showdown, so one or the other is going to happen eventually.

The first freeze doesn't really matter, since you thawed immediately anyway. And once again, I would like to point out that it's out 16 hits, it just so happened to only take 7. And also you had the same number of roosts as he did ice beams, so he still would have been able to beat you even if he never got a freeze or a crit, it just would have taken longer.

Taunt doesn't actually do any damage, and they can still hit back with S-Toss, Brave Bird while you're trying to stall them. Or, you know, switch.

This conversation though made me want to make a switch on my main OU team though, to someone who is built to be a Skarm/Bliss counter. So far it's been just as useful as Alakazam, as in, not very. At least it has priority though.

In a not very related note: Much Battle. Very Avalugg. Seriously, Avalugg did a lot of the work, and two of my Pokemon never even hit the field. Seeing how stally it was, I probably shouldn't have had as much fun with this battle as I did, but apparently I like taking things slow. He did try to timer stall me three times though, so I don't feel bad in the least. (Also yes I screwed up the first two turns. I forgot how to fight Aero.)

I think the group as a whole decides when they want the challenge to happen. At that point, CC PM's the crossword to every member of the team. At that point, it's pretty much a standard semi-live challenge.

These types of challenges are actually extremely common in large Mish Mash games. Yes they have their problems, but generally the problems affect all teams equally, and they all have to adapt.

Personally, I think it's worth having a few people have to sit out if their schedules don't match up due to the sheer variety and interest factor of challenges that are possible with this method.

I don't think the problem is the elimination battles. The problem is that every other challenge the battles are determined by a social component in a game that is supposed to be not socially based at all. From my PoV, the battles are the entire point of this game, and if you want a social game then there's plenty of other ones going around. Just join one of them instead.

This was advertised as being in the form of Kingdom Clash, a game which had a fairly minimal social component. I guess I was just being optimistic that that was one of the things that had carried over into this one. So far they have been very similar, with the one main difference being in Kingdom Clash there were two challenges in each round. In the team rounds, the second challenge was the losing team competing in a different challenge against each other with the entire winning team being immune. I personally think that made it more enjoyable for almost everyone. (Excluding kdowns, because he got eliminated really early on from a luck/WIFOM challenge.)

Yeah, the captain picking mechanic was in the rules from the beginning, I was just being optimistic.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. The only game where it's in a monotype's best interest to use all STAB moves so they have as much PP as possible.

Also, I don't think there's any breeding or TM's in that game either, so you're kind of stuck with them anyway. I haven't played one in forever though.

There are a lot of people who just copy teams from others. If you do that and you play enough, it's more likely than not that you'll run into a mirror match at some point.

Though I'm currently stuck at 1550, so taking better teams from elsewhere definitely has advantages.

"Y'all don't know nothin' 'bout teamwork, do ye? Well yer gon' learn t'day!"

Translation:

"Each team will have two askers and a guesser. The team captains will all be guessers. The askers will both be given 4 words via PM, and without outside communication between any players, the askers must create a question one word at a time, going back and forth, without using the word itself in the question.

After a complete sentence has been formed

(and not before), the guesser gets one chance to guess what the word is. The winning team is the one that gets the

most words correct

. Any words on which the rules are broken are counted as incorrect. If there's a tie for first, it is determined by the team that used the least amount of words in their questions."

The 1st place team gets first pick of Pokemon over the 2nd place team, who gets pick over the last place team. Order of distribution on each team goes in the order that players for each team were selected. The winning team captain must select one player from each losing team to send into elimination.

IMO, the battle was enough of a blowout that kdowns probably would have won even without Blaziken in 5v6. Carracosta didn't use Shell Smash when it could have, so it probably didn't have it. That was really the only chance Mist had.

Yeah, I know it sets a bad precedent, but Speed Boost Blaziken is the only weird ban in the entire game, and after this kdowns will definitely not be able to use the 'I didn't know' excuse, so there's nothing it could actually set a bad precedent for.

Obviously final decision comes down to CC, but my suggestion would just be to let it slide, with the warning that kdowns using Speed Boost Blaziken again would auto-DQ him.

First turn she tried to toxic a Forretress. After that she just sat around doing nothing as Forretress set up craptons of hazards. That was before Blaziken even hit the field, so you can't say that fighting a banned Pokemon had anything to do with it.

And it's not circumventing the rules if we specifically say that Blaziken is allowed. According to OU standards, Blaziken is uber, not Speed Boost. We knew that the entire time, yet we still allowed it. Playing it in ubers was the only way this was possible. This was established before signups took place, so if there were any arguments against it they should have been taken care of then.

Anyway orc, weren't you the one gunning for Mist before the battle happened in the first place? kdowns cares more about the game than Mist did. If Mist was taking this hard, then I might have other opinions on this. Seriously though, would everyone who has already posted on the topic please stop. The only people who could possibly say something that hasn't already been said at this point are Mist and CC, arguing without them being on is going to get us nowhere.

And yes, Blaziken is banned solely for Speed Boost. Smogon specifically avoids complex bans unless absolutely necessary. Anyway, if you had a problem with this, then you should have brought it up during signups when the issue was first discussed.

I agree with orc in that CC did not specifically say using speed boost Blaziken was fine. There was no way that CC could know that's what was happening based on that conversation.

The main thing I disagree with here is that the argument that the battle wasn't over by the time Speed Boost activated. And you can't use Scarf Malamar as evidence, because Malamar was very clearly not scarfed, since it used toxic and protect. I agree that rematches should not be allowed, but if both Mist and kdowns posted their sets, I see no reason why two unconnected parties could try to figure out if the battle was already over by that point using the sets that they actually had in the battle.

The other main question here is

does Mist actually want kdowns to be DQ'ed?

If that answer is no, then this entire argument is pointless anyway.

While the challenge continued and wrong answers were chosen again and again, the group started to get restless. Eventually, they started to fight amongst one another. Unfortunately, there was nothing in the area that could be used as a projectile, so the fighters soon enough defaulted to throwing the only thing that they could: their Pokeballs. In the chaos, everyone lost track of which ones originally belonged to which trainer, so when things started to cool down everyone just took the first 18 Pokeballs that they could find.

There were some failed battles due to DC's and I was around for the one before that. While that battle was taking place I was waiting around for them to come back to the one before that, because I didn't realize that they had started another one. I've done far more with this game post elimination than I did while I was still in it, so I felt like I had to reference that in some way. I didn't want to say, "and now I'm backup mod" because that would have been too obvious, but I guess I didn't quite make my intention obvious enough.

It was more referencing the fact that when I got the PM saying to give a response to it, I thought it was CC wanting to do some backup mod things, so when I saw it addressed to all of the eliminated players I was kind of confused.

This is probably a good time to mention that Smogon is a community, not a machine. Because of this, and the fact that in the last suspect testing round there were quite a few people who tried to get the voting requrements using solely swagplay teams, pretty much everyone in it got annoyed by losing solely due to luck with next to no skill coming from the swagplayer's part.

I really haven't been paying too much attention, (I just noticed this today even though about a week has passed since) but I'm decently sure that a fair number of people only voted to ban it because of how stupid the strategy is, not that it was actually broken. Personally, I completely agree, so I'm not complaining.

Okay, now I'm even more confused about how the scoring works in this game, because I somehow managed to get 164710.

To be honest, I did get really lucky with a starting location of Greenland, which as mentioned is terrible at controlling disease outbreaks, and it didn't take too long to infect the entire world. Despite on and off attempts for years now, this was the first time I managed sub 100 days.

What is it with these games and getting badges that I had never managed to get before?

A: King's Shield lowers the opponent's attack by two stages when it is hit by a contact move, which Earthquake is not.
B: Generally, Mold Breaker is a much better ability than Rivalry on Haxorus, but that might actually just be because it ignores Rotom's Levitate, which is everywhere in OU.

Tell that to any levitating steel or electric type after you kill it with an Earthquake that it's expecting to be immune to. Or if you outspeed Dragonite, that you ignore it's Mulitscale and kill. Or the fact that you can OHKO anything with Sturdy regardless of whether it's at full HP. And to bring up something that is an issue right now for some reason, you can Roar away a magic bounce Espeon, killing a BP chain.

Yeah, I admit that it's extremely situational, but those situations come up a lot more than you would expect them to in standard OU play. Which this isn't so I should probably shut up, but I apparently feel like arguing right now.
