Intro

Welcome to Newbie 1671. I’m your IC and that means that I will never lie to you about mafia theory and I will do my best to give you a good example of how to play the game. I will do this independently of my actual alignment.

Winning because you guys don’t know how to play isn’t actually fun for me, and it goes against what being an IC is about. I have the same chance of being town or scum as anybody else here, and I will be an asset to the town either way. If I’m scum, you should lynch me eventually but I can’t give you advice once I’m dead so try to get everything you can out of me before then!

The rules for how I have to behave towards you guys are all written up here: Being_a_good_IC. If I break these rules, I won’t be allowed to IC again in the future.

Please don't PM me (or any other player) with any questions or comments during the game. Either ask it here in the public thread or PM the mod if it's private.

Gameplay

Read the rules in Post 0! Every mod has slightly different rules and it’s important to always know what the rules are in this game.

We usually start out with RVS or Random Voting Stage. This means we vote people for no reason or jokey reasons just to give ourselves something to talk about. We don’t want to lynch anybody right away, though! We have 2 weeks and we don’t need to take all of them but we need to take as much time as we need.

Try to post at least once a day, more often if you can. Being active helps other people to read you and figure out that you’re town, and if you’re scum then you should know that people tend to suspect lurkers so either way activity is the way to go!

If you want to avoid getting lynched early, read this.

Power roles and claiming

If you have a power role, you shouldn’t claim unless you’re about to be lynched (L-1 with intent to hammer), which on the first day means 4 people are voting you and 1 more person has said they want to vote for you. Later on, you should only claim if you know somebody is guilty or if it is LYLO (day 3 if we don’t lynch any mafia, later if we do.)

Even if you are a vanilla townie, you shouldn’t claim for no reason because the mafia is trying to figure out who the power roles are and if you tell them you are vanilla then you just make it easier for them to find the power roles!

Sometimes scum lie and claim they have a role that they do not. If someone claims, I will say which roles can counterclaim. If you have a role PM related reason to believe someone is lying it is very important for you to claim and speak up!

Sometimes! In one game I played, someone correctly guessed the scumteam in post 21 but it was mostly an accident¹ and it was forgotten soon enough once real content started happening. BBT's vote in post 22 of that game was serious (he explained it on page 2).

I doubt anyone's caught scum yet at this stage of this game, but I've liked a few people's entrances better than others. Nothing worth moving my vote over yet, though.

¹ they suspected the two players who hadn't confirmed yet, but they were both replaced a little while later for not picking up their role PMs, which means that those players never found out whether they were town or scum and so anything they did or didn't do wasn't alignment indicative.

Well you do sound like a fella who played a couple of games. Correctly guessing a mafia team in Day One before the real voting started is... very rare - a lot rarer than "sometimes." From my experience with Mafia, it usually is a huge game of WIFOM: Player X joke votes, Player Y joke votes, Player Z looks at Player Y's joke votes and begins nit picking it, hoping to get some tell out of it. Then Player X looks at Player Z's post and thinks he's reaching for straws. They rabble back and forth and the person most convincing is alive while the other gets loved with the kisses of extra-durable rope, available now half off during the Christmas sale over at the Home Depot nearest you! ...and that person is most likely not mafia.

It's a game - you win or you die.

(In other news, I just got endorsement money by Home Depot and George R. R. Martin!)
