The crew surrounded Dr. Copper, convinced that he was the one behind the mess of blood discovered in the showers. Sander grabbed Copper and hurled him against the door to the outside wilderness. The door blew open, launching Copper out into the arctic night. When the crew went to out to look for him, they found a trail of snow leading to an outer building. Copper stepped out from behind a building, and immediately lunged at Sander. In response MacReady quickly grabbed a pistol and filled Copper's body with bullets. Only....he didn't die. A horrific transformation began, as his limbs began to contort to form 4 spindly legs, and his head split open to form a large mouth. While many of the crew screamed in terror, MacReady quickly took hold of a nearby stack of crates and tipped them onto the monster, enabling the crew to make their escape back into the building.
Within 30 minutes, the crew ventured back out to hunt the creature, now armed with flamethrowers and dynamite. Within minutes, the disgusting slurping sounds and thrashing noises revealed that the creature was still stuck beneath the crates. A quick blast of flame from a flamethrower finally brought an end to its movements.
The remains of the monster were taken into the Laboratory for examination. The crew began to disperse throughout the rooms of the station, shaken by the threat of the monster but relived that it had been brought to an end. At least that's what they believed.
