To be fair though, I have a bunch of experience with all three, and at least two of them have fairly transparent differences between their Towngames and scumgames, soooooo

It is, actually. Your scumgame is to take a backseat, let Town destroy itself, and then when it matters, you step in and make a strong push.

The problem isn't that your scumgame is distinct, it's that it doesn't look like your Towngame. You tend to rage and go nuts at scum suspects when you're Town, and you tend to be like a dog with a bone, right or not. The weakness of your scumgame is that you have difficulty manufacturing the same outrage and passion.

This is your scumgame.

Don't sweat it. You're still relatively new to the site. We can work on it if you'd like. You'd be fun to hydra with.

PEdit: Yeah, Andy, that's the way I've been slowly leaning the last day phase or so. D1/early D2 I had Maria, but she's looking more confused and gamesolve-y lately. This is also directly in line with what I saw from Nos's scumgame in NY199, but that's my only prior experience with him, so it isn't super confident.

I'm reading, drealmerz, I just didn't find what you had to say at all convincing.

My wife does this. If I disagree on something, she seems to think she didn't explain herself well enough the first time, and starts over. Often repeatedly.

Drealmerz. I perceive you to be scum. Deal with it. Don't get butt hurt. If you're Town, prove it with your actions. You've been about as helpful as tits on a bull this game.

PEdit: Agreed, Fire and Gerry all Town due to how the first three lynches went down.

Maria does not hard defend both Creature and Nacho when they are sinking ships.

Gerry does not hard bus both out of the gate.

Why the hell do you people insist on characterizing scum players as having no subtlety or finesse? Any of those moves are bad moves.

And SAD, you can't call Gerry scum and me 'hardcore Town' for exactly the same reasons. Sorry, but no.

Well, no, not really. The truth is somewhat between what you two are saying. Desp, you're exaggerating Gerry's multiple reads. He's allowed more than one at one time; it's a Large with an anticipated scumteam of approximately four. Gerry, characterizing his interpretation as a lie is over the top. It isn't a lie, it's how he interprets things. He's wrong, but throwing it back at him like that is unhelpful.

Come on guys. You're probably both Town, move past the pettiness. Lynch Nos with me.

Gerry is making a reasonable exaggeration. He and I were the core of that push, and your dismissal of his role is not helping you. Yeah but the old one was like ten hours ago. I'm not buying the shifting reads that quickly.

I just ISOed EP for vote counts. I agree that simply existing on the right wagons means little, but position on those wagons does.

McMenno was among the very first on Creature D1, preceded only by Zach, who wandered off soon after for other votes. He was even the only vote on Creature for a while, and never moved off.
McMenno was among the first on Nacho D2, and stayed consistent on Nacho all day until hammer.
McMenno went right back onto Nacho D3, and rode it all the way to a second scumlynch.

So a McMenno SR proposes that McMenno has done NOTHING but bus. I don't buy that.

Need to ISO Zach. My TR of him is stale, and I'm concerned he's coasting. Noticed that early vote on Creature and moving off of it. Need to see if that was just an RVS vote or whether it looks like distancing.

Present SRs are drealmerz and Nos, investigating SAD and Zach. McMenno investigation concludes Town. Maria investigation concludes Town.

I've called him as scum in 2/3 of those games.

My intent is not at all to imply that I am good at reading Pine, but it's a track record that shows I can actually back my feelings up.

He's taking a head on approach because Pine scum plays like that, he likes being in the crowd and letting people know about it. He's good at manipulating people.

I'm not good at articulating stuff but heed my point about him WRT drealmerz. It reads so fake given the context. He can't ACTUALLY believe that.

I'm pretty sure I have a post somewhere that conveys scum pine. I will elaborate more on this read later.
Yeah, I actually play like that as both Town and scum. The key to being a good scum player is to have as little visible difference between your Towngame and scumgame as possible. That's why Creature and drealmerz got nailed here, because I could see the seams.

This is my Towngame.

Also, kind of hilarious that the incipient Pine!wagon is entirely people I have recently suspected.

I've seen you say this more than once and I think you need to check that shit at the door man. We aren't at your homesite any more. The meta here is different. Push your case by all means but routinely referencing how some other group of people would all agree with you that something is obviously scummy gets you nowhere and alienates the people you are actually playing this game with.
This.

Drealmerz, I have actually repeatedly responded to you, repeatedly stated my case, repeatedly engaged why I don't feel your defense is valid. You're just throwing a tantrum at this point. It is yet another example of how you produce unconvincing outrage when you're scum and convincing outrage when you're Town. This is the former.

I can't take your posts seriously anymore. You just derail every wagon and the one wagon where you pushed (slysly) was town.

"Trust me dreamz is 100% town" "I haven't ever seen him as scum but trust me!".
See, this is why I'm beginning to suspect Zach. It wasn't the VCA thing, that just reminded me that Zach was in the game and I hadn't seriously considered him in a while.

A quick skim of Zach's ISO supports this suspicion, as he seems to be pushing pretty much any wagon that moves except the ones that are productive. He's gone after Fro99er, Sly, Fire, Andy, McMenno, and now me. That's like, a full Town roster of votes, except his RVS vote on Creature. He's been keeping to himself, but suddenly has out-of-nowhere case on me as soon as I express doubts about him? Nahhhhh.

{Nos, drealmerz, Zach} take it to the bank.

Unless I'm wrong. I am often wrong.

PEdit: I am tentatively interested in that voting bloc. I'm not 100% on everyone in it, but I'm at least 75% on all of them.

@Bloc: I propose that Nos is the lynch for today. I'm not 100% on him, but my gut says go for it. Besides, we seem not to have a vig and there's no fucking way he should get to LYLO.

PEdit: lol, drealmerz just tripping over himself to discredit anyone now. Dude, the vote isn't even on you right now. We're on Nos.

You, SAD, and I have all stated issues with drealmerz. And you just said you're not 100% on him. Why can't we just lynch dreal since we all already agree there?

Yours in Service to The Light,

Paladin Andrius
I'm good with either. I changed gears into hunting the remaining scum because the drealmerz wagon was stalled. My old SR on Maria has transitioned into a TR, so there's certainly more to hunt than just drealmerz. Hell, we wouldn't have gotten that horribad reaction out of Zach if I hadn't gone hunting.

{drealmerz, Nos} would lynch either of these today. Need to assess more evidence of Zach, but moving rapidly toward an SR of him.

Forgot about that. More likely a 1-shot power? Good point.

This idea has some merit, but I won't be approving or participating in the lynch of McMenno or Gerry, and I don't care how many points they get.

I'm starting to have cold feet about Drealmerz. My entire case is built on him faking outrage as scum and real raging as Town. This is feeling more real the more I consider it.

I'd really prefer Nos today.

Andy there's no reason to rush things, but no reason to wait either. I was holding off in case anyone had PR results overnight or whatever, but I'm pretty sure a Zach lynch wins this for us. I don't see anyone else being lynched today, and if I'm wrong about him then we're not likely to get anything productive done anyway.

VOTE: Zach

13:4 is absolutely standard unless multiball. 12:5 would be very scumsided. A mislynch D1 and a NK would make scum compose 1/3 of Town, requiring Town to be nearly unanimous after that. A second mislynch and NK puts you at 8:5, a third makes it 6:5. That would be ludicrously imbalanced.

Andy, if this is our second Town game in a row where we crush scum together, we should definitely do a Paladin and Cleric gimmick hydra together. Clearly we are unstoppable.

This is reminding me a lot of the endgame of Gay Mafia, where Town had scum dead to rights and they flailed super badly because they saw the writing on the wall.

Stay engaged. Don't try to lead Town (though accept the role if it is thrust upon you) but get in the mix and work with and against people. Your problem here, what tipped me off about you was that your reads were just so milquetoast. There wasn't anything special about them, anything risky or unpopular. Seek to form alliances, but avoid overt buddying until you get a 'mutual TR' vibe going. Remember how I was with Camn in Hunger Games? I slow played that relationship, going out on a limb early on to hard TR her when it wasn't popular and waited for her to come to me. Stick to your guns, take hard positions, but justify them. Also don't be afraid to read the room and find a justification to realign yourself.

Above all else, DO WHAT YOU'D DO AS TOWN. Someone does something scummy, call them on it. Doesn't matter if it's your buddy, doesn't matter if it's someone TRing you, whatever. Someone becomes super obvTown, call them on that too. This is part of what tripped you up here - I drove on three scum lynches. There was no FUCKING WAY I was scum, especially as I have a meta of being anti-bus. You might have weaseled out of getting lynched today, but doubling down on me screwed you. You should have gone for Drealmerz, he was the weak link here (<3 you bb Drealz I was wrong and your actions proved it...my meta on you is not as good as I thought).

====

I was a 2-shot Bomb. I was trying to bait the kill and was really hoping to catch the fourth scum with my second use last night.

For the record, I requested Zach be retroactively modkilled for such a stunningly anti-wincon display. When scum deceives Town into thinking the game is over so they relax their guard, it's fair play. When Town does it for petty, vindictive revenge and outrageously poor sportsmanship, it is distinctly anti-wincon, and violates my interpretation of the rules of the game.

EP considered and denied the request, and while I respect his decision, I don't agree with it. I will drop the matter for now, but this needed to be said.

=====

I need to re-evaluate my reads, especially in light of how the day ended. I genuinely was not expecting to survive, so I didn't do my homework overnight.

Ohhh wait, I misunderstood. I get you now. Using your commute means you're cleared if a night kill occurs, or you force them to intentionally no-kill to cancel your self-clear. When you said NK, that usually means "night kill," not "no kill." Misunderstood.

The problem is that Desperado!scum can just no kill and claim that he's confirmed Town. We probably don't have a reliable means to check that you in fact commuted. So now I understand what you meant, and can tell you with actual authority that what you said
still
doesn't mean that.

Yeeeaah, I haven't fully re-evaluated yet, but I am really leaning towards Maria. The claim inconsistency is really bothering me, not to mention the multiple protective roles.

Further, the fact that Maria had a hard time giving me a straight answer about the flavor name of her role strikes me as scrambling to make a fake claim. Not to mention the fact that she's actually giving out laundry, and most of the scumteam we've seen has been the laundry.

For the last 17 years, I have spent my summers (and a good chunk of the offseason) working at and volunteering for a non-profit summer camp. We also offer winter and spring break day camps, and winter camp was this week. As tiring as summer can can be, and as muddy as spring camp can be, winter camp is always the toughest. I've been coming home exhausted to the core every day, and was briefly sick in the middle of the week. Fortunately it was raining today, and playing board games all day is a lot less draining than sledding or capture the flag in the snow.

I'm back now, and I will be doing my big re-evaluation soon. We have plenty of time, though, so I'll get it done. Probably some time tomorrow.

Still leaning towards Maria, but need to ISO her in relation to flips.

Honestly, not in depth. Okay, let me rephrase this. I buy him hard bussing one scumbud out the gate, but not two, especially if one of them is the encryptor.

The McMenno pass for D1 was fine for a day or so, but he's done jack all the entire game, so for me the lynch list is likely {Maria, McMenno}

Andy I'm looking at D4's VCs, and they don't look good for Maria. Jumps on Drealmerz, who looked like the heir apparent to the lynch wagon, then jumps onto the easy Zach wagon.

Most damning, she was on Drealmerz with Nos.

The first is a transliteration of the audible phrase, the second a portmanteau of the written phrase. Neither is technically correct, so as a colloquial phrase, either is fine.

I have not been keeping up with the boozing.

Actually, I tend to get wordier when I drink. My vocabulary is extensive enough that I tend to use a less sophisticated lexicon as a matter of course, because explaining what I meant is less efficient than using less-efficient words. Drinking tends to break that barrier down, and I start using the really fancy but really specific words. The give-away for me is grammar; I stop remembering to hyphenate 'less-efficient' when it is used as a modifying adjective while keeping it unhyphenated when used as part of a standard phrase.

Not possible in a 17-player. Even if they did have five members, they'd all be goons, and they weren't.

Uggggh, I so want to suspect Desp for the weird scummy logic he's using, but that doesn't make sense at this stage from scum. Town backed into a corner does that crap, scum either tries to tunnel in on objective-based mislynching or will lynch anything that moves. Only Town does this paranoid moonlogic crap.

Pine I need you to be a little more explicit about your behavior re: Menno.
I've been quite transparent. I had been TRing McMenno all game, and then in the post-Zach paranoia I started re-evaluating all of my TRs. McMenno has been a fucking useless lump all game, and I don't know his meta on bussing, so I got paranoid about him. I've been trying to figure out why I haven't been killed, and it has to be because my reads aren't threatening. But now I'm trying to settle my paranoia, firmed up my TR on Andy, and I'm not seeing McMenno bussing his entire team. See above regarding you. Brings me back to Drealmerz.

Uh, and that's something else we need to be careful about. The Hated mod doesn't apply in LYLO, but it would nail me today with only two votes.

I dropped a metric shit-ton of hints all through the game, starting from my first posts. I'll ISO-trawl myself for you, but I haven't been coy. I full-claimed in the Zach lynch twilight when I thought the game was over, didn't mention the word 'bomb' before that because I was trying to bait the kill and take one of them with me.

Hated is a modifier to it. So if you see me claiming Doctor or Jailkeeper or even something obscure like Motion Detector that I've played with before, lynch me. It's *possible* I saw it in a game many years ago, but definitely nothing recent.

Also, I absolutely

Lynch this with fire.
Nah. Par for the course as far as Pine's concerned.
Pine's town Sly's town man this game's shaping up to be great.

Now all we need is Toogeloo Boogeloo to get in here and we get to have a real party.
Actually, this kind of derp partial claiming is pretty weird for me. I just happen to have had weird roles in all three games we've played together (afaik).

My role has been done before, I just haven't seen it used, or at least not in a long time. For the record, I quite like my role, and it's a doozy.

I think that there are a healthy amount of scum PRs, and there is at least one negative utility Town role (Hated) to balance it. At least two, if Desperado's Miller claim is legit.

====

I was a 2-shot Bomb. I was trying to bait the kill and was really hoping to catch the fourth scum with my second use last night.
Actually, this was the only relevant post from the Zach lynch, I said it all in one.

Yeah, we are not rehashing my early D1 setup spec, nor are we debating how you would have played the role. Kindly fuck off about those things. I made the decisions I did, and was instrumental in three scum lynches. So go fuck yourself. I *DO NOT DO THAT* as scum.

Lynching scum and softclaiming a strong power-role is ALL I should need to do to bait the kill. Plus, I was only 2-shot, so I had to be strategic about it. If I were full-shot, I'd have claimed full Doc and said 'come at me bro,' but I wasn't.

you and i and everyone else knows that "i never bus as scum" is meta that by definition must be subverted eventually

there's no reason to think this isn't that game
No, it does not necessitate subversion. I do not think bussing is a good idea. Every scumbuddy you bus is another Townie you have to mislynch, and that much longer you need to make no mistakes. It's also not something that can really hurt me as scum, because as Town, I am often wrong. Hell, this game where I nailed half the scumteam right out the gate is an outlier, not a representative sampling of my Towngame. I flat-out think that bussing is a BAD strategy. Not a not-good strategy, a BAD one. This isn't likely to change any time soon. The small amount of Towncred isn't worth it. How much did it help Nacho? Not too fucking much. Maybe it helped him survive D2, but he still got caught.

Okay, granted, I could see some weird-mechanics small game where it becomes a good idea, but the above logic is ESPECIALLY true in large games.

Further, the minute I subvert my ironclad meta, it is no longer ironclad meta that I can rely on.

You'd think holding the same position unflinchingly for six years would get you some credit on a site, but I guess not.

I got Desp as town.

I was curious as to your case on Nacho.
I also have Desp as Town, with the reservation that if Nacho flips Town, some of the suspicion moves to Desp. A lot of the day-end shenanigans with Creature were quirky behavior from both of them, but I was TRing Desp and SRing Nacho before it, so I stuck with my gut.

So I look at this. Bolded is dead town or MASONS.

There's got to be scum off the main wagon not doing anything unless we're thinking that THE ENTIRE SCUMTEAM bussed Creature which would be ballsy since that's 3-4 people chilling on THE wagon.
Literally everyone on your (Sly) wagon could be scum except Maria.
drealmerz is doing some low-impact crap here that's basically opposite of everything I know him for - even if he disagrees ONLY on game theory or is scumreading me despite THE WORLD saying no (Strahd) he's going to be screaming his lungs out regardless. I think he has a decent chance to be scum.
Zach is a scumread for everything I've said before.
Nos is another low-impact says a few good things and disappears.

Toog is a mason. You're town.

Fire is leaning town but I would be 0% surprised if he were scum. I've basically based this entire read on his attitude. The I DONT APOLOGIZE was basically what he said to me when we were talking about being force-replaced and I was like "yeah no I was an ass" and he was like I DONT APOLOGIZE. So I think he's likely town.
The distractability away from the Creature wagon only really makes sense if scum were mostly trying to stay off it until the end. The "Oh fine" attitude of Nacho deciding he didn't have a choice but to bus is a key point in the case against him.

I'm having trouble because his heart isn't here but he's also not pretending it is.

In post 5657, Pine wrote:It is, actually.

Unless you're talking about this "VCA," in which case go fuck yourself. 3/4 of the above still applies, and you can't really call "hurr, let's lynch off this one wagon" VCA.

I don't buy this paragraph at all. I'm sure you've seen busing be advantageous and be a good idea. Numerous times.

Busing is agreat idea, when it is a great idea. Generalizing like this is bad.
No. I haven't seen it be a good idea nearly as often as I've seen it be a bad idea. The last time I engaged in bussing was six years ago in NY 130, and that was because the person in question was an atrocious VI who was a detriment to our team and later got banned. That's it. I've seen bussing backfire MANY times, and have not a single time regretted the practice of declining to bus.

Look, we can discuss this post-game, even take it to MD, but I feel my meta is incredibly well-established, to the point where if you're ever going to trust someone's meta on something it's mine on this.

Desp at this point I don't even know what you're talking about. I Ctrl+F'd your ISO for mentions of Nos and that's what I got. Can we just let it be that we arrived at Nos=scum realizations independently and when there were more viable lynches on the table?

Yeah, this was a trap. If you were the detergent, you'd have the clean machine modifier.

Dude, you literally asked me about this a couple of days ago, and I have reclaimed a couple of times this day phase, on top of quoting the piles of places where I've been consistent about it.

I am "My Sleep Schedule." EP has insomnia, and a fucked up sleep schedule, and that makes it hard to get shit done due to unreliability. I was allowed to "stay awake" twice in the game, and anyone that tries to kill me when awake dies too.

Well, you made a lot of assumptions, first among them that the scumteam connected all the dots you did. I don't agree with the premise.

PEdit: Really? I have two easily justifiable wagons that both sides are begging me to break the tie on, and you think I'm tunneling in on my personal conviction because...?

No, you're just making shit up. I could justify either, no problem, but I don't think they're scum. Your argument is bad and you should feel bad.

Yeah...I think it has to be Andrius. No one's hammered McMenno when there's lots of easy, free excuse to do so. He's not actively pushing someone else, either, as L-1 scum would. Andy is, though. He also keeps invoking "Pine would never, we're bros" a bit too much, as if it's a talisman to ward me off. Drealmerz I'm still not comfortable with, but the last few pages there have been a few too many dumbtells, like his paranoia about two remaining scum (which is preposterous). He's a little too cracked to be scum, and what he's pursuing just isn't attainable.

What the hell. Dovie'andi se tovya sagain. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

VOTE: Andrius

Tip of the hat to McMenno. This is certainly one of the best-executed uses of classic bussing scumtactics I've seen. While I stand by my personal opinion on bussing, this is how you do it right. You also correctly recognized that, if you just let us go, we'd destroy ourselves. There's an art to being constantly suspected, but never making it to the top of the list, and you nailed it.

@Rest of the scumteam: You all played well. Creature did a good job leveraging divisiveness in Town to push towards deadline, Nacho I don't think I'd have caught if I didn't have a bunch of experience with him, and Nos blended really well with the background.
