I did research at baseballreference.com .
It's officially the first time there has been a player to hit 3 HR in a game and another pitcher to pitch a no hitter through 5 innings on the same day in the playoffs.
Jose Altuve - Game 1 - 2017 ALDS vs. Boston Red Sox
--NLDS: No hitter through 5 innings
Pablo Sandoval - Game 1 - 2012 World Series vs. Detroit Tigers
---No other games that day
Adrian Beltre - Game 4 - 2011 ALDS vs. Tampa Bay Rays
--1st other game: No hitter ended in 2nd inning
--2nd other game: No hitter ended in 1st inning
--3rd other game: No hitter ended in 4th inning
Albert Pujols - Game 3 - 2011 World Series vs. Texas Rangers
--No other games that day
Adam Kennedy - Game 5 - 2002 ALCS vd. Minnesota Twins
--NLCS: No hitter ended in 1st inning
George Brett - Game 3, 1978 ALCS vs. NY Yankees
--No hitter ended in 1 inning in NLCS
Reggie Jackson - Game 6, 1977 World Series vs. LA Dodgers
--No other games that day
Bob Robertson - Game 2, 1971 NLCS vs. SF Giants
--No hitter ended in 4th inning in ALCS
Babe Ruth - Game 4, 1928 World Series vs. St. Louis Cardinals
--No other games that day
Babe Ruth - Game 4, 1926 World Series vs. St. Louis Cardinals

The DH is the worst position in baseball.-

I don't get why everybody has such a hard-on for watching pitchers bat. Most of them suck at it.One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.-

Honestly, I can't be mad. I'm beyond disappointed, but not in the Sox. They went out fighting and I give them tons of respect for that.-

maybe we should get a fielder to stand behind them on the mound and handle their fielding duties too, they'd probably be better at itIn post 185, Sudo_Nym wrote:I don't get why everybody has such a hard-on for watching pitchers bat. Most of them suck at it.-

At least with fielding you can make the argument that they're already out there. With batting, you're making them get up and go out to do a think most of them have minimal training to do. For what? Like, what is it that is actually gained by making pitchers bat? It doesn't make the games better. It doesn't make them more fun to watch. It doesn't add more strategy, outside of the most banal "OMG A DOUBLE SWITCH". It's mostly just an easy out. At least with the DH, you're putting somebody out there who is good at some aspect of hitting, and so long as both teams are playing by the same rules, what's the difference? In post 189, shaft.ed wrote:

It's lucky that you're going to the ALCS, and not the NLCS; this way, you get to see a DH, which is the superior version of the game. One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. I guess I will root for whoever wins out of cubs vs nationals now. When I joined this site, I was a software tester for mobile business applications and the song PokerFace was not yet written by Lady Gaga
Now I test lottery and gambling software as my job. It's funny how my life has turned out. Somewhere a Time Traveler is laughing madly
