It's not so much mafia-specific lexicon.
What makes me say what I said are things like this:
In post 32, Keyser Söze wrote:Oh, just one more thing... as per your role pm, do you win when all threats to town are eliminated... or do you win when all players without a Mafia wincon are eliminated?
You're trying to be cute and funny with remarks like these and I'm not sure what for. There are a lot of interpretations for it, depending on how cynical you are. My first impression was "scum trying to be cute and funny" but that's just me. I have trust issues. :S-

This game has a really weird and stiff dynamic. It feels like a lot of chunky posts have been made, but not much has really been said. It's page 7, but I don't have anything I would call a "read" yet. They're more scattered thoughts.
I do have a forming scumread right now but I'll leave you in suspense about who it is for just a little longer.-

No one even tried to guess who my scumread was? I must be really boring.
Anyway, it's KainTepes.
In post 116, KainTepes wrote:WHY DID THIS THREAD PROGRESS SO FAST??? I JUST WENT TO SLEEP AND CAME BACK AND EVERYONE TALKING, BUT THIS IS GOOD!!!!!
This is the first thing that set off some alarm bells for me. It's applauding ~something~ that's happened in the thread that's ostensibly good for town but nothing remarkable actually happened so that gives this post a canned and insincere feel.
This exchange with Keyser Soze also bothered me:
Spoiler:
Keyser's point isn't particularly salient here because of course scum can actively push a Day 1 policy lynch, but Kain rolled over and fell in line with Keyser's logic just like that. In keeping with this theme, Kain proceeds to co-opt Keyser's BBT vote. The tenuous reason that accompanied the apparent change of heart makes me think he's less interested in forming his own opinions and more interested in adapting ones that he thinkslooktown.
VOTE: KainTepes-

All seriousness - We are talking about policy lynching keyser here who, might not be the best (I don't know), but he doesn't come across as bad. I don't really think changing a read based on the idea scum wouldn't want to lynch keyser because he isn't a great player is very town-like shall we say.

I'm not going to be happy if I now have to go on the defensive for no reason. It's tough getting reads in this game because it seems like there are a lot of people posting too much (Keyser Soze, Phoneix, mn) and there's this strange mass clenched feeling this game where everyone seems to be afraid to act normally for some reason.
I can already hear the grumbling from Phoenix that I'm a "lurker," even though I post when I can. If it's that I'm not posting enough for your liking, I try not to clutter the thread with spam. If it's that I'm not moving fast enough, I'll go ahead and tell you that I'm slow and the constipated gamestate is not helping. If it's that I'm not being transparent enough, that's too bad because I'm not going to tell you everything I'm thinking as I'm thinking it. If it's that you don't like my Kain case, that's also too bad because I like it and that's what I'm pursuing right now.-

You and BBT are pretty big holes in my reads list that need filling, which is kind of frustrating since you two being here was part of the reason I reaplced in. Please come back soon. :3
At this point I have a pretty decent town read on Slandaar, mostly because he's been hitting points that are also on my mind as I'm reading the thread. The Kain point in Post 175 is a great example and the things he's bringing up in his conversation with Keyser are others (Post 229).
I'm also townreading Aquanim, mostly from Post 101 and Post 161. His end of the conversation about Robster makes enough sense and I think it makes me more inclined to think he was actually initiating a conversation to double check a read he was iffy on.
From the few data points out there, I think Oceanwind is more likely town than not because of Post 79. I can't say I agree with the Keyser townread, but the mn town read looks good and hit's the sweet spot in efficacy.
Even though I dislike most of what he's done in this game immensely, I think it's far more likely that Robster is town than not. Even though the OceanWind read doesn't seem to be based on much, I have to think it's sincere (Post 74, Post 75). I hate the way he's approaching the Kain read. Drawing the conclusion that Kain is a "mislynch" at 3 votes is just terrible. I hate, hate, hate the way he's trying to marginalize me by glibly dismissing me as scum with this lazy and easily disproved argument that I bogarted Slandaar's case.
Keyser Soze is someone who I really wish would makeless frequent, better quality posts. I'm not saying that to be mean, but the signal to noise ratio in that ISO is insane and that's why the read there is so elusive for me. I keeping thinking it's more likely he's town but whenever I try to make myself happy with that read and move on I just can't because there's a shortage of strong, decisive, legitimate thoughts in his posts.
Now to Kain: You can say whatever you want about personality, but I'm not voting him based on that. I'm voting him because I think what he's doing is a lot more likely to help scum in their win condition than town in their win condition. Specifically, I think he's saying things for the sole purpose of getting townread. Saying that he's lynchbait is intellectually lazy and doesn't answer the fundamental question of if he drew a scum cardin this gameor not. Being a VI doesn't make them town all the time. I don't even think the label "VI" even really accurately describes Kain because there are a few places in his posting that show calculation and capacity for guile. If there's a place where anyone thinks he gives a legitimate read or town motivated post, I'm all ears, but don't just tell me about his personality because fuck you, that's irrelevant.-

Kind of like the strange chess rule of thumb, if someone offers you a free pawn early on and you can't figure out why, 9/10ths of the time your opponent just made a mistake, and it's not one of those traps, even though there are tons of traps out there and it seems like it would be one. There's just too much human nature to go around.
Going along with your chess analogy, if someone posts something that's scummy most of the time they're just scum who slipped up and made a mistake.
I'm trying to get your whole logic chain because from where I'm sitting it makes absolutely no sense and isn't a genuine read.-

I'm also liking GuyFawkes for scum.
Masquerade didn't do anything remarkable, but the way Guy's going about his defense of Kain is extremely odd. He's to the point where he's even bothered by peopletalkingabout Kain, whining about this (non-existent) problem that "all anyone's doing" is arguing about Kain. He also gives this blanket scumread on people voting Kain, which he doesn't follow up in his vote by the way:
In post 409, GuyFawkes wrote:KainTepes is like performance art and I think its fantastic. he could be scum but I see no need to worry about him yet. I think it's more likely scum is pushing his lynch
But his actualon Kain is carefully hedged:read
In post 433, GuyFawkes wrote:In post 432, Aquanim wrote:If you don't, you must have some explanation for how he's a townie and not deliberately throwing... so let's hear it.
I'm not convinced he's town but I'm not convinced he's scum either. I AM convinced that he's not a VI and there's gotta be some method to his madness. So I'd rather look elsewhere for somebody to lynch
His defense isn't even compelling. The argument essentially boils down to "these few posts are obviously jokes, thereforenoneof what he says should be taken seriously." It's not a good argument and it's an awful lot of hardcore defense and diversion tactics for someone who he's supposedly not even town reading.-
