Gameplay

1. The following vote formats are the de-facto standard on the site (aka votes should be enclosed with vote tags or bold tags. I don't care about caps/spelling/etc.)

6. Players' alignments will be revealed on death.
   
7. When killed, a player may make one informationless 'bah' post at the beginning of the next day phase and must be silent thereon until the conclusion of the game.
   
8. Please submit all night actions either via <b> tags in your quicktopic if you have one, or by PM if you do not.
   
9. If you have a night action and do not submit one, you will not take an action. I will not resolve your action on a random person.

Deadlines

1. Days will be exactly two weeks long. Extensions may be granted at my discretion for what I feel are extenuating circumstances.
   
2. Nights will be exactly two days (48 hours) long.
   
3. Players will be prodded after 48 hours of inactivity during the day, excepting V/LA circumstances.
   
4. Failure to pick up a prod in 24 hours will result in replacement. Asking for replacement will result in replacement.

Mafia, being a competitive game, naturally creates conflict. That conflict sometimes boils over into anger and aggression on the part of the players, especially in a game this large with multiple hydras.

That said, I would like to specifically reiterate that

it is not acceptable to resort to personal attacks as an outlet for that anger (or for any other reason).

Still, Zack's parents had been proud of his acceptance into the SOLDIER unit, and even moreso when he'd written to tell him that he'd be serving alongside his personal idol.

That was the last they'd heard from him. Perhaps their closure would come another day.

Sources confirm that a man was hit by a truck on the outskirts of the abandoned Rocket Town launch site yesterday evening. The man has been identified as Palmer, the current chairman of the languishing Shinra space program.

Bystanders report an argument over the contents of said truck, which is registered to a local pig farm, and is reported by local authorities to have been carrying a sizeable shipment of rendered animal fat.

Palmer remains in stable condition at the Rocket Town Hospital; the whereabouts of the truck and its driver are currently unknown.

Barret Wallace wasn’t a particularly eloquent person, but then, the Ex-SOLDIER they’d hired on hadn’t been particularly keen on conversation himself.

Cloud responded by taking the same jump down to lower ground that Barret himself had just made, but with a front-flip added as a flourish at the end.

Cocky asshole.

“#5 reactor’s through the tunnel. Bastards are probably combing the trains all throughout the city; no way they know we’re in Five.”

“If you say so,” Cloud replied. “I suppose this isn’t the time to ask about last job’s payment?”

“Do I look like I’m carryin’ wads of cash around on me? You’ll get your damn money.”

In comparison to the last job, the trek to the #5 reactor had been uneventful. Outside of the creatures littered in Midgar’s underbelly, born of mako energy, they hadn’t heard a peep of Shinra’s presence in the sewers.

Which meant they really had thrown Shinra for a loop by trekking halfway across the city to hit the reactor opposite #1, or…

They were at the reactor’s controller now, situated on a large platform suspended above a gaping chasm, a pool of mako energy at its bottom.

And Cloud had gone to the edge to look over the side.

“Cloud?”

No response. Barret walked over himself, slapping Cloud on the shoulder. “You ok, man?”

Cloud tilted his head toward Barret. The Mako glow in his SOLDER eyes seemed brighter than ever, moreso than it had been in the sewers in the near pitch black.

“I see it now. How he did it.”

Barret stepped back. The faint sound of footsteps echoed behind him, unnoticed.

“The hell you talkin’ about?”

Cloud fully turned to Barret, back to the chasm. “The mako energy -- it traverses the entire planet, from here to its core and back again.

“I know where to find him now. The reunion begins.”

If he suspected his mercenary companion was off his rocker before, the subsequent act of spreading his arms and diving backward off of the platform would have driven the point home well enough by itself.

Barret was too awestruck to even spew profanities, much less move a hand to stop the other man.

pirate mollie<--Strongest townread, period. Mollie is town, 100%.
Bulbazak <--Town because I said so. There's other reasons, like his general pushes, but because I said so should be enough.
Aeris <--Very strong townread. I really don't get the suspicion there whatsoever.

Kaboose<--Kaboose's content is the type that looks bad at the time, but which with the value of hindsight makes you realize is insanely town. Since I'm reading in hindsight, I can actually pick up on this. Seriously, go read his posts. His stances don't come from scum, at all.

Cephrir<--Thankfully, Ceph's slot was made pretty dang town by CB. I loved CB's contributions to the game and they seemed immensely town.

Saint <--Admittedly, posting got weaker later on, but still reads town to me.

Feysal <--I have liked a TON of what Feysal has been saying, even if I disagreed with a lot of the conclusions. The mindset seems to come very immensely from a town player.

Barret’s blood ran cold; he knew that voice. And as the plethora of armed personnel parted ways, a slender figure weaved through them.

“So,” said Scarlet, head of Shinra’s weapons development branch, “the big bad leader of AVALANCHE is none other than the man who helped sabotage the Corel reactor all those years ago.”

He’d gone over this accusation in his mind before, made previously (albeit implicitly) by Scarlet’s order to fire on Dyne and himself as they reentered Corel proper after, ironically, helping Shinra reclaim it from the actual insurgents: the first incarnation of the group AVALANCHE.

But no amount of explaining that to her, or anyone else, would bring his friend or his wife back. Besides, if they’d gone through all the trouble to bring Scarlet here, then…

“...I got nothin’ to say to the likes of you.”

Scarlet raised an eyebrow. “The guns aren’t doing it for you, hmm?” she taunted. “Well, I’m sure we’ll find out everything eventually through less...conventional methods. What was that all about with your partner, by the way? Throwing himself off the balcony? You keep very interesting company.”

Barret just shrugged. Even if he’d known he’d not have told her.

Scarlet looked him over again, and pointedly sighed. “Well, I suppose you’ll be joining us for an extended stay on the upper plate. Won’t that be fun? We can take a tour, you can think about all the friends in your little terrorist group that you’ll inevitably betray the whereabouts of, and…”

She cut off, momentarily flustered, and then reached for her mobile in a side pocket. “Can’t it wait? What?”

Barret watched her as her half smug, half exasperated expression turned into a look of sheer horror. And try as he might, he couldn’t keep the smile from spreading onto his own face.

“Sweep the area! Check the trains and sewer system!”

Another pause. “I don’t give a

damn

about evacuation, you imbecile! And I can’t imagine you’re going to enjoy my reaction when I find you’ve lost them by wasting my time with trifling matters like this.”

She hung up, turning back to Barret. All traces of her previous gloating, playful manner had vanished. “Sector #3, then? I suppose you win this round. Still, you’re coming back with me, and I swear to…”

This time Barret felt the source of the interruption too, as did everyone else in the reactor chamber. Arching his neck over the side of the platform, Barret could see the mako energy at the bottom of the chasm becoming brighter, more volatile. The platform began to rumble.

Son of a bitch might’ve been useful after all.

“Well, we leaving?” he barked, almost imperatively, no longer the least bit concerned with his state of imminent incarceration.

Scarlet grabbed Barret by his non-gun arm and threw him into a group of waiting guards. “See that he’s taken to maximum security. I’ll be visiting eventually.”

As she turned to leave, Scarlet turned back to face him, as if remembering something. She leaned in and whispered, “I swear to you that I will destroy everything you hold dear if you don’t do exactly as I ask.”

Barret had nothing to say to that; Shinra had done that in Corel already. He’d persevere to his last breath, but AVALANCHE wouldn’t be destroyed so easily.

That idiot SOLDIER threw himself off a ledge after babblin' something I didn't understand a damn lick of. Then Scarlet herself comes in, shooting her damn mouth off about how goddamn smart she is catching onto the plan I fed Shinra for the better part of a week, and the bottom of the reactor chamber starts erupting like a damn volcano. I dunno if they got it under control but I expect it's gonna at least put the grid dark in #5 for the better part of the month."

Tifa visibly bristled at this, and Barret knew she was thinking what she always thought when they discussed the consequences of what they were doing: that this was impacting the lives of the slum residents more than the company that ran their lives. Barret was counting on the fact that, in the long term, that simply wasn't true. A few weeks no power put against multi-million sums of gil as they rushed to repair the damage, not to mention run AVALANCHE down, well, Barret was satisfied with that return.

"You know, none of this will matter soon. Both your organization and Shinra will be wiped off the face of the planet when the calamity comes."

And for the first time, Barret realized that Tifa was not alone in her cell. Another girl, roughly the same age as Tifa, sat in the corner. Her clothing befitted a denizen of the slums, but there was something about her that absolutely radiated an innocence no slum resident should naturally possess.

There he went again. Given a rare "opportunity", as he called it, to train against him personally, Yuffie was absentmindedly going through the motions while she allowed her father and his goons to make an example of her.

It took every fiber in Yuffie's being not to retort what had been her party line for years -- that Godo had done that himself when he capitulated to Shinra and allowed the city to be transformed into, primarily, a tourism destination. And for what? A few more gil to line his pockets? Shinra had already beaten them in the war; this was tantamount to getting pushed into the mud and then watching her father roll around in it.

When she did not respond but dropped into the lowest effort version of her fighting stance, Godo finally relented. "Fine. Go. Do not show your face here until you're ready to stop acting like a child."

She rolled her eyes as she walked away. She'd already arranged for transportation to Junon tomorrow evening, but if Godo was going to make it so easy for her to leave undetected, she'd probably attempt to book passage tonight.

Her plan after that? Outside of collecting materia, she frankly had no idea. But anything was better than sitting in the midst of this mockery of her culture while her father grew complacent in his delusions.

One day Wutai would be great again, and only through immense amounts of materia could they ever hope to throw the yoke of their Shinra conquerors off for good.

I actually like Dirge of Cerberus. I found the Hojo and Vincent backstory to be really interesting and a lot of the stages were very cool.
The gameplay was passable and some of the designs were a little too anime for the already kinda-silly setting, but I thought Weiss was a neat guy.
Random Gackt ending had me puzzled for years.

game got a bad rap but it wasn't too bad
the level design was kinda meh and the core gameplay had a low skill ceiling
the cutscenes were monotonous
the bad guys were trying SO HARD to be MGS villains. Like I hadn't even played MGS at that point and when I did I was like "hmm where have I seen this before but way worse"
But FF7 IP will probably always sucker me in from now until the end of time

Over those five years, have you ever tried to reach out to him or help him improve his play at all? Or have you just been insisting he is the worst player on site?
If it's just being hung up about what you consider to be low quality of play, the way you're going about it here doesn't help him grow at all.
It's clear that you've identified what you think makes him a poor player. You should take it upon yourself to help him become a better player. Challenge him. Inspire him. Don't be a jerk. Be awesome instead.

The way it looks to me, you've got him figured out. If that's the case, you could easily team up with him any time he is town or snuff him out any time he is scum. As a scum player, you could manipulate him to your own advantage to win. Having that sort of facility with another player doesn't make them 'bad', either. What you should be more focused on is making sure he learns from these experiences. If you just give him a hard time, then he may never learn, and then you're just as much to blame for his continued standard of play.

I think it was the right move, dead thread disagreed. You should've come out and said you were Rufus right away though; the manner in which you claimed didn't look like you were being as truthful about that as you might've been

it was effectively a 'leash the SK' move, which is very often proper strategy.

It's a prisoner's dilemma -- scum can only win if they are alive and the other scum is dead, which they have to pseudo-cooperate to get a chance at

If scum both shoot at town, they draw (I really am not a huge fan of the 'nobody wins' state and probably would've called it a half-win for you both) if they both shoot each other, town wins.

Scum has to correctly figure out if the other team is going to go for a draw or a full win
