One, that isn't a good reason because town players will sometimes do things they have no incentive to do out of stupidity or spite. So there should still be a ruling regarding it.
And two, it's the only way a town player can forcibly prove themself as town (by getting themself killed), if they believe that helps their win condition for whatever reason (for instance, "go after X, Y, and Z after I flip town").
It's always the same. When you fire that first shot, no matter how right you feel, you have no idea who's going to die. You don't know whose children are going to scream and burn. How many hearts will be broken. How many lives shattered. How much blood will spill, until everybody does what they're always going to have to do from the very beginning... SIT DOWN AND TALK!
I may be misunderstanding, but wouldn't D1 be LYLO?
Day 1 each scum makes a different crystal color. If none of them are lynched, they each make a different crystal color D2 and win. If one of them IS lynched, anyone who made the same crystal color D1 is softcleared.
That means you functionally have to leash crystal colors D1 to all be the same color, meaning you can only lynch 1 scum per day.
Or is the intent that you only check winconditions at the end of the night?
intent is that you only check winconditions at night, I'll edit.
That means mislynching town twice can lose town the game, still, which is somewhat harsh, but there is information about who scum is in the crystal colors if the scum grow in a manner to blitz the n2 win.
"Let us say that you are right and there are two worlds. How much, then, is this 'other world' worth to you? What do you have there that you do not have here? Money? Power? Something worth causing the prince so much pain for?'"
"Well, I..."
"What? Nothing? You would make the prince suffer over... nothing?"

Fair. I meant it more in the stance of "I can't see a reason it would ever be a good idea as town, so having the rule shouldn't change expected values" than "I can't see town ever doing that", but town automatically making town crystals seems fairly intuitive and not like a bad inclusion.
Who wins if both town and scum simultaneously fulfill their win cons?
If going into a day there are no red crystals, but at least 3 (2 town and one scum) of each of the others, it's possible to have both teams win simultaneously. ( I don't think this is likely, but I could see a town trying to force this to prevent a scumwin so it might come up.)

For 1:, anytime someone submits an action that in the totality of the circumstances overcomes reasonable doubt that a player isn't playing to their wincon, the action should be rejected and the player should be forcereplaced. So I don't think griefing gives the ruling relevance on its own. In the dark, if someone as a townie PMs the mod that they'd like to grow a scummy blue crystal and the setup says they're not allowed to do that, it's kind of not relevant whether they're allowed to since they should probably be forcereplaced either way.
2 seems like a gambit people should be allowed to try if they want to. It will generally be possible to tell the difference between 1 and 2.
For Jingle's comment I gave tiebreakers to scum since it sounded easier for town to engineer the outcome.

Spoiler: Names in the box

No idea if this is balanced, if it has a breaking strategy, or if it's even fun to play, so.
i was planning on changing the number of players and/or names in the box because i wasn't sure if i was satisfied with these numbers but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
i'll vote in a bit
I will straight up disregard all reason if you have a PR dream again. You can come back and be like, “I dreamt that Locke is a N2 Bulletproof Multitasking Cop and Self-Targeting Doctor,” and I will go, “Okay, Locke kill it is then.”
Names in the Box > Vengenomination > The Gladiator's Colosseum > Crystal Rainbow > Innocent Bystanders > Immortal Duke > Dead Weight
anyone else around...?

i have sent a PM to whoever made a setup in the challenge, guessing they forgot

If you hit a 33% chance to get scum in Gladiator's Colosseum, you can lynch the newest gladiator over and over until you win since you know the mafia has to fulfill the >=1 scum requirement.
The counter is to put two or three scum in the Colosseum from the start, but if that's a mainstream tactic it doesn't sound fun to me.
I think name in a box won't live up to being the dynamic fun thing it pretends it might be, in practice. Flips the mafia shows you because you're 13 now and the mafia has decided well it's time are usually not fun exciting intriguing flips.
The Gladiator's Colosseum (Alyssa) - Seems like an interesting setup. I think this setup is fun to play.
Names in the box (Datisi) - Another interesting setup, it is more standard than Alyssa's setup but this still looks fun to play.
Crystal Rainbow (pops) - A scummy crystal does have use for town, as it is the only way for town players to be flipped as town players. However doing so is an incredibly risky move. A pretty decent setup with WIFOM potential.
Dead Weight (ceejay) - This is pretty much WIFOM: the setup.
Vengenomination (BBmolla) - A pretty standard setup but it works.
Immortal Duke (TL) - I forgot to replace this underwhelming setup. There's not really potential for this.
Innocent Bystanders (Karnage) - Seems townsided.

Yes.

If you think the mechanic is WIFOM in a negative-fun way you are either looking at it wrong or are going to be consistent and not submit a setup with a doctor for the next year
