Dance of the Title Thread: Resurgence in wild?

I think mastina should go through the titles which have been given and systematically remove all titles with "Lynch" "LyLo" and any other terms that could incite hatred or imply hate speech, racism, etc.

And before anyone says I am exaggerating says "We would surely know better than to put "Lynch" in a title"

I present to you:
Someone - "Well, we gotta lynch Someone"
Nai - "Lyncher of the Dead"

And while I'm on a tear...
Frozen Atlantic - "Not a flavor whore" Can we use "whore" in a title like this still?
pickemgenius - "Jack the Tripper" Is referencing a rapist alright!?
Cyberbob - "Jrammar Nazi" I mean, I'm not a fan of Grammar Nazi as it is anymore because it somewhat minimizes the Nazis atrocities.
Charles Davis - "NON-NAZI" And this one might get a pass because it is, I can only assume, about them literally dunking on Nazism? But I don't know that. And it seems like a parody. And a parody of a non-Nazi is potentially a Nazi and I don't think I'm okay with that.

And if I'm being really pedantic,
Luna - "Goth Limey Chick" "limey" is derogatory. Whether they chose to don this title or not.

Like, we uphold Avatars and Signatures to a higher standard. This is, to my understanding, partially because they are main profile areas and prevalent in all posts a user makes. Should we not hold Titles to the same standard, as they penetrate the site as equally and are User Voted?

I get it, I'm being over the top and some of these are users who haven't posted in years. But I think it is time we made proper changes and disallowed this type of language from our titles.

I can't tell if this is a joke post or not. who would think the term 'grammar nazi' or a reference to jack the ripper in a title in a game where serial killer is the name of a role is 'problematic'

Aristophanes indicated that Jack the Ripper is a serial rapist, not (also) a serial killer. Serial rapist is not the name of any mafia role, and if you tried to mod a game with such a thing and asked the queue listmod to be the reviewer of your game, you would not ultimately mod your game as-is.

I think Aristophanes has a valid concern, titles should be held to a standard similar to avatars as you see them on potentially thousands of posts. Those titles mentioned don't really gel with me. If they end up being removed a PM explaining why would be a great idea.

Some kind of face related thing is fine. The 420 thread is also him(hilarious cuz he's straightedge). He's a song contest duder. But all those other people are pretty forgettable as far as the history of mafiasgim goes w/ 3 of them not posting since before *my* join date.
Only reason I'd not want to just get rid of Nai's title is because I feel they were a pretty significant contributor on the site.

just "lo and behold" i feel completely loses the reference to endgames.

FWIW, XLO has been a catch all for situations that were either LYLO or MYLO in the past and doesn’t carry the same connotations since it’s literally using x in the algebraic sense where you can replace it with anything.

Also ELO has far stronger associations with the band which kinda makes it a shitty title for skitter imo.

Not really concerned about stripping titles from people who siteflaked as a priority as them having siteflaked means their title isn’t popping back up on new posts. If an active user has a problem title it should 100% be brought up and addressed though.

Basically, I don’t think trawling through the user list for things that people could find offensive is a reasonable request on mastina’s time when all of those posts are probably archived anyway. (Kept in the museum closet, to borrow Ari’s metaphor).

If a title is inappropriate and is being seen the report function should be more than adequate.

Quick title fairy update:
I am obviously American and for the last couple of days have been busy with the American holiday of July 4th, but with that being past I should be more active.

Tonight however, I very very much need to attend to helping my dearest friend through a hard time they are going through, and while I am here to do a quick check-in (on that note, see below), title fairy duties will have to wait until the next time I log in (which I believe should be tomorrow--no promises, but I THINK I should have the free time to spare tomorrow for here).

I turned 'Lyncher of the Dead' into 'Executor of the Dead', and "Well we gotta lynch

". Perhaps not the best changes to make, but the ones which in spurn of the moment felt right.

I think this suits her because

• it’s a reference to her avatar, Scholarship Student Isis
  
• it implies she’s “best in class,” no matter if it’s mafia, rpg class, or overall classiness
  
• it’s fairly original(?)

This, with the added wrinkle that, at least to me, Lylo and Behold is trying too hard to be cute and fit the theme perhaps too well, and I'm not a huge fan of putting in a term that may or may not end up antiquated due to the whole thing regarding the word "lynch" in games. It could change to LILO to fit better or the term or could be reimagined entirely. I feel like Elo and Behold has the best chance of being a great title 5 years down the line and actually becoming an honest classic.

Also, Last Laugh feels more like something you'd give a title for good scum play.
