For all the people doomsaying Pioneer, I think they often forget the powerful decks and cards were often a product of weak interaction and a favorable metagame.
Which interactive cards from Pioneer's sets are you most hopeful about?
"Let us say that you are right and there are two worlds. How much, then, is this 'other world' worth to you? What do you have there that you do not have here? Money? Power? Something worth causing the prince so much pain for?'"
"Well, I..."
"What? Nothing? You would make the prince suffer over... nothing?"
I like Censor a lot it felt like it didn't get enough of the moment it deserved.

"Which deck are you playing?"
"I'm playing that creatureless combo deck in standard based around a 4 mana enchantment that really costs 0 mana the turn you play it since it takes effect immediately, and what it does is double your mana every turn if you obey its cast timing restriction for your other spells. It tends to wash your mana also, I'm jamming some gold cards with four mana symbols."
"Ok but could you clarify which deck you're playing that's not specific enough."

There’s a variety of simic/bant Oko decks that are pretty good. I’m also seeing a lot of cavalcade red, but Ive found that to be very beatable with just some shocks and flame sweeps. Gruul also exists and is a little trickier.
Fires is definitely the only deck of you don't count mono red, gruul aggro, Simic food, knights, temur reclamation, BG adventures, GW adventures, and Esper Doom Foretold, yeah.
I'm looking forward to cracking standard back open to see how reclamation works in this never new world.

Spoiler:
two players played Temur Reclamation in the recent fandom legends if you wanted ideas of how to upgrade/brew
this one uses Irencrag Pyromancer and seems dope tbh
this one uses Adventure creatures and Escape to the Wilds
very tempted to netdeck that Pyromancer list on Thursday after the FotD 4x wildcard refund cuz all I'd need to craft are 3x Expansion/Explosion and 2x Fabled Passage (idk how but I've pulled 4 Pyromancers) so that's really not a huge waste of wildcards tbh
or if I pull an Oko or Questing Beast I can craft Simic Food but that seems boring
[edit] I also have 4x Escape to the Wilds. huh. no Bonecrusher Giants though. still...

I hadn't considered Mystical Dispute or Disdainful Stroke maindeckable cards, but I guess dispute gets in front of Oko/Teferi. Stroke doesn't seem to solve any problems I'm having. I was already pretty sure my last two circuitous routes were cuts but those lists are confirmation. Brazen Borrower and Bonecrusher Giant have both been on my radar but I'm trying to be conservative with my wildcards. Once and Future seems like a great 1-of that I want to try. I think it's probably just a better version of what Escape to the Wilds is trying to accomplish.
I don't know if this archetype is actually any good, but I'm having a good time playing it so far. At least for the games that I remember to set my end step stop correctly.
Negate is pretty dead against mono red and gruul so I'd also be hesitant to put it in a main deck. Disdainful stroke seems super dead a lot of places too. I might give it a shot but it's not making sense to me in theory.
Mystical Dispute seems like it'd be ok even against Cavalcade red. Trading 3 mana for 4 when you hit Torbran is neglible tempo but you're trading a rando card for a centerpiece

I am convinced Marvel is unplayable in Pioneer, with T3feri and Oko both turning it off.
My excitement for Pioneer is less for immediate Pioneer, which I expect to be a race to broken nonsense, but more for once we've iterated past the initial busted nonsense.

Oko doesn't turn Marvel off, Marvel doesn't need the second spin more than like a quarter of the time and the first spin comes with the Marvel player holding priority after Marvel resolves.
Teferi shuts it down. It is cute that Glint Nest Crane has the "right" amount of power for clearing a Teferi that immediately -3'ed but it is reasonably likely the Teferi is enough disincentive to be doing Marvel things when you can other busted things that don't have an interaction with Teferi's static ability.

Nifty, Pithing Needle is -barely- a part of the Pioneer format, there are so many cards from the time period that brought that card to mind again and again, and Sorcerer's Spyglass isn't quite as powerful.
Hm maybe there will be people attacking people with 3/3 Elk creatures named Pithing Needle at some point.

said screw it and joined a game with a tweaked Pyromancer list to try it out: 2x Temple of Mystery over 2x Passage and 2x Escape to the Wild over the 4th Exp/Exp (will craft on Thursday) and the Once and Future
also went -1 Mystical Dispute, -2 Aether Gust, +3 Shock. sideboard is -3 Lovestruck Beast (I have them but what matchup is that for?), +2 Dispute (4 in the 75), +1 Aether Gust
Spoiler: I'm already sold
idk if you're supposed to leave these guys in against Oko or not btw, oops.

Yeah, I get it. I won a tournament with Marvel. But you DO miss sometimes, or you hit something that takes a turn and then is an Elk with a weird name. I do think T3feri is a much bigger problem for Marvel(and for "fun").
