Welcome, players, to Open 595: Elemental Mafia!

General Game Rules:

This game starts on D1.

There is no Daychat for the Mafia Team.

Days will be 2 weeks, and Nights will be 2 days (48 hours).

A lynch will occur when a majority of players have voted for the same player. Failure to reach majority will result in a No Lynch. You may continue posting during Twilight.

Votes may be either bolded or placed in a vote tag. If I think it is a vote I will count it. Shortening a player's name is fine as long as I can tell who it is.

Players who have gone 48 hours without posting will be prodded. They will have another 48 hours to receive their prod or they will be replaced. I will seek replacement immediately on the 3rd prod.

You are allowed one contentless Bah post upon death.

Oh, and do try to respect each other please. Let's all be civil ladies and gentlemen in this game.

Setup Specific Rules:

Each Night, the Mafia chooses a player to send to perform the Night Kill. The player who performs the kill will attack with their specific element.

When a Goon is killed, the Mafia must decide which of the remaining two will recieve the dead Goon's Element. Afterwards, if that player performs the Night Kill, they must choose which of the elements they will use. When only 1 Goon remains, they will have all 3 elements to choose from but may still only use 1 each Night.

A Goon's Element will not be revealed upon death.

Each Elemental Doctor may choose a player to protect at Night, but additionally they must choose which of the three elements they will protect against.

The Elemental Serial Killer may choose to attack with any one of the 3 elements each Night. The Serial Killer starts the game with a 1-shot bulletproof and is also immune to the element with which they choose to attack each Night.

@Mod - In Open set ups, are the Role PM's for ALL ROLES not supposed to be sampled?

TBH, I don't believe there's any set rule on that. I have seen games sample all the roles and I've seen games sample just the VT's, so I believe it's a choice of moderator's discression. I'll speak with Wisdom and LlamaFluff on this. For the sake of brevity I merely sampled the VT PM's. If you have any role related questions you may ask and I will answer them to the best of my ability.

What do you guys think about the setup? What can be done to improve it?

I was thinking getting rid of the backup doc would be good too. I had also considered an x-shot tracker rather than a full tracker, but it can still break the game in a bad-luck scenario (fun fact: SK killed Mafia on N1 in both the times this setup has been run). The Roleblocker sounds like a good idea too.

would flavour text relating to what element was used make the game more townsided? because if not it would have been fun to see what elements were being used during the day.

what if there was a rock paper scissors mechanic where instead of holding the element water meaning protected from water and killing with water it would mean killing fire and being protected from earth.

Yeah. Last game there were 4 doc claims and the tracker was supposed to be fully protected (1 guarding fire, 2 guarding earth, 1 guarding water) but was killed by mafia. It was pretty obvious which of the docs was the fake, but there was a small chance that the other doc could have been lynched. There was a false assumption starting to emerge that there was kill flavor and that would have helped kill the fake doc, while making the flavor explicitly match the kill would have eliminated any chance of getting the doc lynched.

That's a pretty specific scenario, but the bottom line is that it takes away the chance for a fakeclaim from scum.

How would you resolve the SK getting attacked with the same element they used in a rock-paper-scissors style mechanic?

P-edit: Bodyguards might help scum with fakeclaiming and getting away with it.
