SPECIAL MECHANICS:

Spoiler: Civics and Traits

CIVICS

• Every player must pick two
  Civic
  abilities out of three options within their Role-PM before game start.
  
• All Civic abilities are immediately available to a player.
  
• Civic abilities cannot be changed once the game has started.

TRAITS

• Every player starts the game with 2
  Trait Points
  .
  
• Different Traits have different values, corresponding with the relative strength of the abilities they provide.
  
• Every player must pick one or two Traits equal in worth to your 2 Trait Points before game start.
  
• This means you can either pick two Traits worth 1, one Trait worth 2, or one Trait worth 3 and one Trait worth -1 (minus one).
  
• All Trait abilities are immediately available to a player.
  
• Additional Trait Points can be obtained throughout the game, and can be spent on additional Traits or saved for later.
  
• Trait Points can be spent during any Day phase by messaging the moderator with your intent to do so, naming your intended Trait(s).
  
• Players' picked Traits will be publicly visible to all in the third post of the game-thread.

Spoiler: Technology

• Technologies
  can be researched throughout the game to gain additional abilities.
  
• Before each Day phase you are provided with three Tech options randomly drawn from a Tech pool.
  
• Each time you research a Tech additional related Techs are added to your Tech Pool.
  
• All Techs that start within your Tech pool provide no abilities, future Techs will.
  
• To research a Tech you must message the moderator with your intent to do so during a Night, naming the Tech you wish to obtain.

Spoiler: Ascension Perks

• Ascension Perks are abilities that can be gained by being on a lynch-wagon.
  
• When a player is lynched all players voting for them get to pick an Ascension Perk during the next Night phase.
  
• Ascension Perks are divided into four tiers, one being the lowest and four the highest.
  
• You may only pick a perk of a higher tier if you have already obtained one of a lower tier.
  
• You must have more Ascension Perks of the tier below before picking a perk from any tier higher than 1.
  
• This means if you have one tier-1 perk and one tier-2 perk you may pick a tier-3 perk, but must obtain another tier-1 perk before choosing another from tier-2.
  
• Ascension Perk abilities are available to a player when the next Day phase starts.
  
• You may have no more than six Ascension Perks.

Spoiler: Federations

• Players can gain the ability to form a
  Federation
  with other players throughout the game. Federations are a collective of players that vote as one and gain various benefits.
  
  
  
• The weight of a Federation's vote is equal to the total number of votes the individual allies control plus one.
  
• A federated player votes to lynch in the game-thread as usual, however the Federation will only vote for a player if a majority of allies is reached.
  
• If a Federation consists of two players this means both must be voting for the same player.
  
• Existing Federations, their respective vote weights, and who the allies within are voting for will be kept track of in all vote-counts.
  
• A federated player may not vote to lynch another Federation ally.
  
• A federated player may choose to leave the Federation at any time during a Day phase by messaging the moderator, but may not vote to lynch their ex-allies for the remainder of the Day.
  
• The above restriction preventing a player from voting ex-allies upon leaving a Federation is waived if the Federation makes up half or more of the player-pool.
  
  
  
• All players within a Federation have access to a Federal private-topic which may be used during both Day and Night phases.
  
  
  
• Federations have a Night-ability to
  Embargo
  another player, thus preventing them from taking activating any abilities during the next Day and Night phase.
  
• To use Embargo a majority of Federation allies must vote in their Federal private-topic upon the same intended target using "

• If LYLO is reached Plurality voting rules are applied instead of Majority rules. This means that the player with the most votes upon them is lynched at the end of the Day.
  
• In LYLO Days last 96 hours.
  
• If a player were to start a Day with enough votes upon them to have them lynched they die at Day-start, with the Day proceeding as usual.
  
• The above rule doesn't apply in LYLO.
  
• All indirect votes are removed in three player LYLO.
  
• MYLO counts as LYLO for all purposes in this game.

DURING THE DAY:

Each Day will have a one-week deadline. Extensions will be given if I deem doing so applicable, always feel free to ask.
A simple majority of all living players must agree on one person (via voting) for a Lynch to occur (simple majority = ½ # of living players +1, rounded down).
If the deadline runs out before a majority lynch is agreed on, the day will end in a no-lynch.
Players may vote for a No-Lynch via voting for 'No Lynch'.
Once a player has reached a simple majority of votes no further unvoting will change their fate.
Once a player is lynched the game enters twilight until I post a death scene; all players may continue to post.
Once you are dead (either via lynch or night kill) you may no longer post except for a brief “Bah!”-type post that contains NO game related information.
Votes should be bolded or tagged or they may not be counted (e.g.

Vote: -Player-

or VOTE: -Player-).
Vote revocations should be bolded or tagged or they may not be counted (e.g. VOTE: UNVOTE: -Player- or

Unvote

). Unvotes are not necessary before changing votes.

DURING THE NIGHT:

Night will have a 72-hour deadline. Extensions will not be given, unless a player has to be replaced during the Night.
If you have a role with a Night action, your choices are due to me by the posted deadline. If I do not receive your choice via PM by the posted deadline you will forfeit your actions.
If you expect not to be here to submit your night action during the night, you may send one in in advance.
Roles with Night actions will not be able to submit an action on Night 0 (i.e. during the pre-game stage).

Rules violations will be dealt with according to their severity, up to and including a Modkill, as the Mod sees fit. Modkills may be accompanied by a change to day/night and the offender’s role will be changed to Neutral Survivor, which guarantees a loss.
- Just know, it's all about intention. If you genuinely mess up, I'll try to cut you some slack. If I determine you're trying to compromise the integrity of the game though, you won't be too happy with the punishment.
Any situation not explicitly covered above is subject to my discretion and will be handled as I see fit on a case-by-case basis.

The governors of Strisant stared blankly at the holographic projections flickering ghostlike before them. No words were exchanged for a bleak understanding had crept up on all, numbing their minds and silencing the vigorous debate one would expect to find in the Grand Chamber of Vezoinae. Before them their home, all they once knew, burned. The capital of Strisant had been the last to fall, the invading forces ignoring its presence, instead seizing the easier pickings beyond its boundaries. The authorities had not been prepared, had not expected... and here they were, standing in terrible awe. The heart of the empire they once ruled slipping from their grasp whilst they stood powerless.

Families and labourers fled into the streets under the ruby skies, only to succumb to the swarm of droids that patrolled the ruined city streets. None were spared. Buildings that once defiantly stood erect piercing the skies now lay in shambles as corvettes zipped through the smokes dropping bombs upon the ecumenopolis below. Terror seized the hearts of the Sallian peoples and they knew not what was overcoming them. Neither did they know who their tormentors were. This assault had come out of nowhere, an immense fleet jumping into Strisant territories from an unspecified origin. None of the starships bore markings of allegiance, and the droids were of a make previously unknown to the industrial databanks. Great care had been taken to mask the identity of the aggressor, they fought in proxy.

It was unlikely this was a solo-action: the sheer size of the synthetic armies and fleets was immense and beyond the material capacities of any Sallian neighbour. No, this had to have been a cooperation. Authorities within our galaxy wanted the Sal eliminated, but they wished to be without blame. They had broken a centuries old code of honour, unspoken but followed nonetheless by all parties within the galaxy. This code had lead to an era of prosperity and trade for all. Tensions had naturally always been present, but conflict had always been direct and open. Never had a state resorted to such covert treachery in the living memory of our kinds. Their motives are wholly unknown to us much like their identities, but nothing good could ever come from an evil such as this. A fragile harmony had been shattered, the seeds of distrust sown...

It seems the fragile harmony of the galaxy may have been a whole lot more fragile than many would have anticipated. Mere hours after news of the Sallian Empire's downfall had reached the furthest reaches of civilisation, the Xanyr attacked. Much like the peoples of Sal those of the Orreian Hegemony were not ready for all-out war, particularly not at such short notice. The plantoid feudal society were of a peaceful, altruistic nature. Despite largely keeping to their own, the Orreian would aid any travellers and offer homes to any who sought refuge upon their homeworlds.

The Xanyr apparently didn't care much for the kind-hearted nature of these folk. A gargantuan swarm of planetary landers filled to the brim with soldiers was dispatched. Cruisers bombed the planets, raining hell from above. The plantoid Xanyr housed themselves in building constructed out of bio-engineered materials. Although these were easily produced and were of sturdy nature, they remained tremendously weak to fire. As such, the entire planet was set ablaze... all sentient plants perishing to the scourge along with any refugees which had shared their home.

Julo'Lefor sat slouched upon his comfortable swivel chair, gazing through the window at the clouds drifting by outside. In the street below the drives of hover-vehicles whirred loudly as the populace of Rathar underwent their daily commutes. It was an agreeable day for the lone security worker. Julo' had recently wrapped up a mortgage for a new apartment he and his significant other could move into. It had been a fair bit of bother to arrange, but now all was out the way. His mind drifted, fantasising about the nightly activities he was planning to undertake once the suns set. The visions of hectic movement, intoxication and laughter captivated him as he chewed upon a pen. So much so, that Julo'Lefor was oblivious of the red blip rapidly moving itself across the screen before him.

The planetary sirens flared into action. Julo' was awoken from his daze, jolting upright in his chair and hastily grasping for the panel before him. The blip upon the screen multiplied before his eyes, splitting into dozens, then hundreds. All moved towards the pictogram of their planet. A rapid volley of explosions suddenly rattled the city, the firing of the planetary defence cannons. Could it really be true? What had the Nazre ever done wrong, no, this can't be happening! A second volley of shots thundering and echoing off the skyline brought the watchman back to his senses.

He pushed himself away from the screen and rolled gracefully upon his chair towards the window. He stood up abruptly, and snatched a picture of Nala from the desk besides him. The silhouettes of star ships approaching and orbiting Nazaarel littered the skies above the grand city. Deathly fireworks littered the skies, ghostly flashes of green and blue tearing up the horizon. A tremendous roar became continuously louder from above. Julo' looked up to see the husk of a destroyer burning up as it plummeted towards the grounds below. His eyes traced its movement, and he witnessed how it smashed into a distant block of offices. The building imploded on impact, inhaled by a ball of fire that painted all vision white momentarily as the ship's reactor gave out. Screams and sirens replaced the familiar ambience.

Julo' shook, he clutched the picture of his beloved to his chest. It was the last thing he ever did. A nuclear bomb razed the city of Larth off the map, along with it the apartment Julo' and Nala had purchased...

Depends on the wording of your ability. If you were to gain extra AP's by being on the wagon of someone that's specifically sharing your alignment you wouldn't receive any with Nonadaptive. If your ability states you gain it via other means or with other conditions not to do with being on a specific wagon you would still gain them.

I do not ever as a moderator say stuff to my players that could influence the flow of the game or influence their behaviour. The only exception to this rule is when I provide mechanical clarification where I believe it necessary, this is impartial and provided to any player regardless of alignment.

This code of conduct has not been breached in Stellaris Mafia.

Furthermore, out of game factors should never been brought into a game. This includes moderator communications.

To make this really clear the following rule has been added to the rule-list:

The Xanyr Multitude knew their position was precarious, they knew they had drawn attention across the entirety of the galaxy. The ruthless slaughter of the Orreian had not gone unnoticed. The first to retaliate were those of the Star Concord, a newly formed federation between the Ko Preah and Ia-cirith. The allies had dispatched a sizeable fleet together, which now harassed and hunted down Xanyr patrols wherever possible. Although this was an annoyance for the collective Xanyr hivemind it was no threat to their sovereignty. At most the Star Concord was capable of targeting remote trade outposts and mining stations. The slight reduction in resource income could be worked around, particularly now that the biological needs of the Xanyr had been reduced as a result of Exetron tampering.

The Xanyr had once been a hoard of moth-like beings. Now they were a hoard of cybernetic moth-like beings, which despite sounding arguably more impressive, had stripped them of their inherent natural abilities. It had also rendered them incapable of action against the Exetron. Other than that, the Exetron had largely left them to their own devices... and soon downfall.

For everything changed when the X12 attacked.

The border fleets stationed in Xanyr star-systems were swiftly overwhelmed by this new adversary. The X12 started to carve their way through to the heart of the Xanyr dominion. The breach in turn also gave the Star Concord the opportunity to strike at full force without risking dreadful losses. Within a few months all Xanyr stars had fallen into foreign hands, all that was left were the home-worlds. The X12 together with the Star Concord may have had a superior naval capacity, but the Xanyr were numerous and more than willing to fight to the death. This would have proven problematic had the X12 not hidden an ace up their sleeves (circuitry?). Warbots, giant machines of war built to annihilate all opposition, had been brought by the X12.

These mechanical beings were dispatched from numerous carriers, no landers being required for the plating of these behemoths was capable of withstanding the heats high-speed atmospheric breaching produced. They plummeted to the ground, leaving sizeable craters upon impact. Upon landing they proceeded to fire at all lifeforms, mercilessly slaying the Xanyr. They were met with resistance, yet no projectile nor beam could harm the impenetrable hulls. This was a war they could not win, and so they too fell. Another presence amongst the stars lost, more than a billion lives lost.

Projectiles and lasers flew overhead. Shells crashed into the grounds, uplifting the sands and creating giant clouds of orange. The earth trembled and with every impact the soldiers of checkpoint Zeta shuddered. Corrass of the Steelwights stood hunkered in the trench he and his brothers had dug a few days prior. He had been positioned here by Admiral E'nguin, the naval force having been recalled to help defend the planet from the invasion forces. A shell landed a few dozen yards from his position. Corrass was jolted, ears ringing, yet managed to shield his eyes from the fiery dusts flung in every direction. The simple soldier regained his balance and took a deep breath. A mistake. He breathed in the dusts which now hung thick in the air. Corrass coughed violently as the sands clogged his already raw throat, sapping any remaining moisture from his mouth and airway.

Three loud bursts sounded to his left. Here his brother, and long-time friend La'saw stood with rifle in hand. His friend peered over the edge of the trench taking shots at all that moved. A difficult task in the murky red haze.

"I can't see a bloody thing. How am I meant to bloodied shoot them if I can't see them Cor?"

Corrass shrugged, no answer was expected here. It had been four days since the nameless had come for the Ra'savan. Four days of constant vigilance and grit. It wasn't oft that the warlords put aside their general grievances and sheer hatred of one another to confront a common foe. These nameless certainly were causing quite the stir, sending untraceable fleets of droids to commit their dirty works. Somewhere on the galactic stage some individual, or group of them, was having an utter lark Corrass thought. Blighters acted as friends, stabbed their allies in the back at their moment of greatest need. A truly fowl game. Just goes to show how none are ever to be trusted wholly, there's no good out here in this unforgiving universe of ours. The strongest live on, the weak and fickle perish. Such was the natural order of things, Corrass took no issue with it.

Another shell shook the trench violently, knocking La'saw from his feet. His friend fell ungracefully onto his rear and spewed some colourful profanity after having done so. It was beyond Corrass' understanding why his mate was so worked up. Everyone knew they were fighting a futile war against an opponent with seemingly boundless reserves. If only someone knew who was responsible, then a galactic effort may be able to strike the villains were it hurts most. It was too late for the Ra'savan however. So be it thought Corrass. Death was a preferable alternative to these tormenting sands.

The galaxy was not ready for the unfathomable entity approaching its plane of existence. A being beyond time, beyond space and reality as we know it. He had been called, summoned even. He approached.

TIME IS SIGHT.

The Worm hungered. The Worm was. The Worm loves us.

GRAVITY IS DESIRE.

Jingle was an interdimensional horror, a being so powerful and contorted the very fabric of reality rejected it's presence. As he approached sensors arrays went haywire, presenting baffled researchers with impossible incomprehensible readings. A gravitational wave measuring facility was generating procedurally generated love poems of poor quality aimed at staff. That these poems weren't the most artisan was beyond the point however, galactic seismographs shouldn't have been writing love poems in the first place. The scientists freaked out. It wasn't their emotional incapacity to deal with love poems.

EVERYTHING IS.

Those of Ashururuk all knew something was most wrong, something most terrible was coming their way. More than any other in the galaxy they felt the immaterial touch of Jingle. A tangle of desperation and desire rooted itself in the hearts of the Ashururuk, they were meeting The Worm and they knew it. Jingle for some reason seemed to have taken a personal interest in these peoples, the brightest minds of Ashur' posting so-called mathematical proofs of The Worm's love for them upon their local media. Little did they know, love for Jingle was not like love in ordinary space.

No.

Jingle came to be one with Ashururuk. He had come to align with their hearts and minds, but also their existences past and present.

THE END IN THE BEGINNING.

Much like a vast swarm had once brought rapid downfall to a now extinct people, the Ashururuk were about to face their end. And their beginning. Space shudders as a wind-wracked cloth stuck in a strong breeze. Their star, Glibroi, dims. Then brightens. A shadow coils in the hear of their star. The Worm is here. It unfolds like origami.

Across the system sensors shut down, overwhelmed with data in abject disbelief. Upon Ashur' the peoples cower and scream as Jingle turns his attention to them. The Worm loved them. It will always love them, and thus always has. It winds itself around their star. It winds itself around the very information of their reality. A series of cataclysmic shudders jutter the planetary crust of Ashur'. The planet ignites, erupts and toils. The star goes cold. What happens next none can recount.

All that is known: where the Ashururuk once were, there now existed a black hole. Someone in this cruel galaxy had sold their very existence to Jingle in exchange for their demise...

Yet we cannot stop. There is no respite. No refuge nor shelter. We must finish what we started; proclaim ourselves kings of the ashes. The end is nigh, our fates soon to be sealed. However this may go, we shall feast with ghosts tonight...

The game has entered 3-player LYLO. All Federations have broken down and a majority of voting abilities have become obsolete.

It takes two votes to lynch, and the Day will last 96 hours.

The Infinity Machine is impervious to extraction. No information comes out from it and no hacker or engineer has ever been able to see through its shiny exterior. We know neither what it is for, nor what it aims to do when it is done. We what do know is that it is hailing us, and has never done so before in our living memory...

Today there is an additional vote on who to send to the Infinity Machine. That player will get to pick two free Technologies and will become immune to all actions during the next Night, including kills with increased priority. They may however also not activate any abilities during the upcoming Night.

Everyone has a single vote they may cast by posting "Nominate:

" in Bold. Voting abilities cannot interfere or provide additional votes. The player with the most votes at the end of the Day is sent. In the case of a tie the player who received the first vote is sent.

A religious cult of unknown origin has somehow managed to summon the "Worm-In-Waiting", a being they regrettably believed to be their deity. In truth however it is a dimensional-horror: some monstrosity from another plane of existence. We must momentarily put aside our current grievances and unite to slay this leviathan, or suffer the consequences...

Today players may also pledge themselves to help fight the dimensional-horror. Players that do so cannot research or activate any other abilities during the upcoming Night.

Players pledge themselves by posting "I pledge myself" in Bold, this cannot be undone. A [one-third rounded up] players are required to defeat the dimensional-horror, and once this quota is met no further players will be permitted to pledge. If the Day ends with not enough players to fight the dimensional-horror nobody will be allowed to research or activate any other abilities during the upcoming Night. Only

I'll be posting a bunch of thoughts later when I'm less dizzy, I got hit by a car today which wasn't ideal but I've managed to get this done as I wanted to on time.

If anyone has any interest in Stellaris let me know and I'll help you get started, it's an amazing game if you enjoy 4X grand strategy type things and are willing to role-play a bit. It's even better if you have friends and a lot of time to spare with them.

I should have added more players to even out the numbers, I knew it would be a really tough game on town and that was partially intentional as I wanted it to be a really high-stake, big consequences, kind of game. Could have realised that differently. More on that tomorrow.
