no lunch: my scumgame is alright, but i have a great record of obvtowning as town so that was my major reason for joining this game.

please be careful of the lynch this game. coalitions have to be settled before anyone is hammered no matter what. no L-1s.

personally, i think we should be aggressively sorting our coalitions. scum are in an instant-loss scenario if they aren't a part of it from the get-go. the town that lost the previous iteration let Wisdom lead them by the hand, which lead to the loss.
knowing that scum can lose immediately is where we'll get the reactions to sort them out.

i'm going to bed, but essentially it's less about who is very town (besides me obviously) and more about how mafia need to squeeze themself in somehow and how they're going to do that.
to that end i'd suggest keeping your coalitions small with players you either genuinely trust or want to pretend you genuinely trust, instead of keeping them constantly populated at 5/5.
basically: don't use your coalition like your readslist.

I'm not sure I understand how Chara's statement (which seems to me to be little more than a reference to no lunch's mention of the all-hard-to-read coalition in the previous setup) can be so glibly ascribed to a townie mindset.) In fact, no lunch's statement doesn't really provide any kind of useful observations for the town. it's just an unsubstantiated statement, although not as unsubstantiated as your own.

it wasn't really just a reference or a joke. it was a comment on my read on no lunch and no lunch's play making him difficult to read. and an indirect way of saying that as things stand, i wouldn't put no lunch in the coalition.

my read on elephant didn't change per se, but i decided the early townread wasn't good enough for my coalition. i added elephant to it on page 1 to see what was what.
more posting on the subject of elephant is also making me reconsider the strength of the read.
most importantly, Aubrey beat him out for dominance.

i don't agree with this idea.
grabbing 5 players out of 9, probability says there's going to be scum. using it as a "cop" does absolutely nothing. because the results are: town wins the game, or we don't win and now we know scum are in the group. i'd rather just try to win, and if we fail now we know for certain that only one scum, maximum, could be in the remaining 4.

trying for anything less than a 100% town coalition is going to skew our information, anyway.
i read no lunch's suggestion as more like "don't use shaky townreads in your coalition, use easy to read players so we can be more sure they're town."

it's curious that i like a lot of no lunch's rhetoric, but not what relates to elephant.
85 deserves more than i'll give right now since lunch asked, but i'll say i don't really agree with it.
that said, i do see the issues with townreading elephant, and they have to do with his style. it's more than elephant isn't doing anything scummy, but he also isn't doing anything scum who's being careful can't do.
Aubrey, i'd say is being towny in his manner and reactions. and i like 96.

and on a second pass, i might actually like lightrain noting something odd in Aubrey/elephant but not knowing what conclusions to make with that.
scum can fencesit when they want to keep their options open. town also do it when they simply aren't sure!
and conversely i don't love how skitter called out the fencesitting. if skitter is scum then she'd also be the kind of harder to catch scum (like elephant, for example) that uses good logic that is objectively correct enough to be more difficult to pick apart.

and scum are paying more attention to their posting to make sure it has as few weak points as possible, while town are usually not.

i think a lot of what no lunch is saying is right and makes logical sense. that's about all i can say about it.

at the time i thought it was fair, but no lunch's irrelephant read bothers me as well. lunch says elephant hasn't been sorting yet, just spinning his wheels. i don't really agree with that.
back to post 85. the points sound good but they paint elephant as more scummy than he actually is. (replying to specific points)
1. i think this conclusion is premature.
2. pushing for a definitive answer that should be obvious already, i didn't find this scummy from elephant. more indicative of playstyle disagreement/not getting the sarcasm, which does happen.
3. so? we've barely started, is this a point against?

and about the volatile coalition thing: elephant's full coalition at the beginning was akin to RVS/testing the mechanics by my understanding, not a way to catch scum.
it's actually similar to my feelings about no lunch's read on me: it's a fact that scum can tend to be more linear/easy to understand because they are consciously attempting to be so. being incongruous, or even outright contradicting oneself, is something i would actually be townreading depending on the situation. not that i think elephant was contradicting himself.

i think Sky is self-conscious scum and so neglected to put herself in her own coalition. she's townreading skitter for openly putting herself in her coalition to start because she thinks scum would maybe have that same self-consciousness about it, and this is because she had that feeling and she's scum. this is in spite of most other players also doing the same thing in their opening.
also skitter pointed out herself that she isn't being all that towny.

also, 238 is actually part of the reason for my townread. scum can afford to strongly townread some townies here, that elephant isn't may be indicative of paranoia.

also the timing for 206 checks out. looks like an immediate response that took all of that half hour to write. reacting in an immediate, emotional way followed by a more nuanced think-through of the issue (in this case, elephant's daychat realization, then his "hm no they're probably town?") is in my opinion a very natural way of going about things. and it did look to be real-time. scum tend to have one response and then stick with it, or if they try to fake reconsidering it can come off as stilted. don't think elephant's "hm they're both probably town" that he posted immediately after the double hurt was too stilted.

the validity of that would depend on if a town Skygazer had thought about the scum uses of skitter's posting, which i won't really know until she comes back.

pedit: it was pretty quick, i noticed the same and that's why i asked about it. still, it being preplanned there would also mean he has some specific goal in doing so. (as opposed to scum playing more casually without a big play or plan, which is in my opinion more often the case). and i would wonder if scum elephant would choose to shade both of us like that (especially me, considering my defense of him and that most players are townreading me). it'd would be a tough battle to pick.

point is, in a regular game i wouldn't discount their earlier shading of each other, as it could easily be distancing. i this game, making each other look bad is just very risky.

Not too risky IMHO. If one flips the other is considered semi-cleared, and it's a Mountainous setup. Worst case scenario is we lynch from the 4 outside the coalition and that's the scum p. Then they kill from that pool too making it a 5 lynch pool (the coalition) and 2 confirmed townies outside of it. Next we miclynch on D2 and another kill on N2 = 4+1. A repeat on D3/N3 = LyLo.. 3 players in the coalition who are all suspects and no one outside of it, so no conf!townies.

this assumes one of them makes it into the coalition. i think it's too risky because their play if teamed lowers both of their chances of even being in it.

the rest of it is hard to explain. i'm trying to imagine the game from a scum Gamma point of view and it isn't this. my opinion on gut is that it's recognizing something without necessarily knowing how to explain it, not that it's a pointless read.

and Gamma is a player i find easier to townread when he's town. i feel like he sort of showed that after i started really looking at him. i know you're wanting a very logical reason for why i want to heal him, but this is all i have.

i could have Gamma out of the coalition if i'm happier with someone else, but for right now i want to examine all of the slots and their positions right now to see if i can figure out what scum would be doing right now if one of them was already on the coalition.

and elephant was one of my public TRs. even though he wasn't widespread in the coalition, scum elephant could have made the reasonable assumption he

get there before it was finalized. his only competition was Gamma Emerald.

i liked Aubrey's response too. i think i was right with that townread to begin with.

in order of preference i would go with elephant first and skitter second. skitter's real-time interaction with me was good, and so is the meta. it doesn't make skitter surely not scum but if she is she's playing a really good game.

elephant being scum would also mean he's playing really well. i'd need to look into that more because i still like my reasoning for townreading him to begin with.

Aubrey is again scum with one of them anyway, or scum with Gamma. but i'm avoiding hunting for that particulae team right now because Sky's reaction test was very good, and Sky/Aubrey isn't a pairing i'm considering.
