Welcome to MeMeMeet, where it's all fun and games until somebody gets hurt... and then it's more fun and games.

Rules:


0. Have fun. Or else.
1. Every player has two Identities: a Mask and a Role.
2. Masks are for Pre-Game Roleplaying. They have no other effect on the game. Unless they do.
3. All Votes and Actions target a Player, not the Mask.
4. Votes will not count unless they are in the form:
Vote: Player
.
5. Unless your role says otherwise, do not talk to anyone about this game outside the game thread.
6. Do not post anything game-related once you are dead.
7. You may claim your Role and Abilities (if any). You may not quote any flavor given in your Role PM.
8. The Mod is always right. Especially when he is wrong. If you disagree, discuss it with him by PM or after the game.
9. Don't be a jerk. Unless you just can't help yourself.

Gameplay:


0. This is primarily a Mafia game. Don't get
too
distracted by the other stuff going on.
1. During each Day, a Game will be randomly selected. The game will be played during Day, while Discussion and Voting takes place. Only living players may participate.
2. Day can not end until the Game is completed. Games will last around 48-96 hours.
3. At the end of each Game, players will receive MeMeMeet Points.
4. In addition to any Role-based Winning Condition, the player who has accumulated the most MeMeMeet Points at the end of MeMeMeet Mafia will be a Winner, regardless of health or affiliation.
5. Most of the time, Lynches will be decided as normal. When a Player reaches a majority at any time after the Day's Game is finished, that Player will be Lynched immediately.
6. However, some Games may affect the Lynching procedure.
7. Night will last a maximum of 72 hours.
8. Players will be prodded after 96 hours of inactivity, and replaced if they have not responded after a further 24 hours, unless they have warned the Mod in advance.
9. If discussion lags or a quarter of the living players request it (minimum of five), a 72 hour deadline will be put in place. Lynching will still require a majority.

MeMe looks around at the other 18 scummers in the living room. Some are chatting. A few are playing Halo. There's a couple of point whores on the couch playing... who knows? Something stupid, surely.


It all looks normal enough. MeMe checks the calendar again to make sure.

Ah, there's Fishbulb, asleep in the corner. Doppleganger meetups take it out of a guy. He can be woken up when he needs to claim, right?


Everyone is seated in a circle, and the Mod stands in the middle, passing out cards. Each player takes a quick peek, and then puts the card in a safe place.


"Ok. Everybody go to sleep..."

Before all eyes are closed, though, there is a crash and the lights go dark. Somebody screams.

The lights come back on. Everyone is fine. How lucky.


But wait... is that a body lying on the floor? Two bodies?


Oh dear.


It seems that the game of Mafia is on hold... but another Mafia has just begun. And it's no game.

There is a flash of lightning... or at least something similar to lightning, but without all the noise and exploding roofs. It goes straight through Atticus, and splits his body in half to reveal a giant card.

There is no answer. MoS is very soundly asleep. Or...

Indeed. MoS is not just asleep. He is dead. As they poke at him to make sure, they discover a large stack of papers in one of his pockets. On closer inspection, they appear to be slips for recording games and getting MeMeMeet Points.

Game 2: The Minority Game


If everyone wants to be different, isn't everyone the same?

It's time to visit the Bass Pro Shop, but there's a small problem. Only two cars work. Always willing to make a game out of anything, you have decided write down your prefered choice of car in private, with the goal of being in the less crowded vehicle.


You have 96 hours to PM a choice of car, by PM. The choices are "Fishbulb's Car" and "The Rental". You may discuss your choices in the thread and change as often as you like until the deadline.

Goal


You win by being in the "minority" car. Because "The Rental" is newer, it is very slightly preferred over "Fishbulb's Car", and therefore in the case of a tie a choice of "The Rental" will win. Those not sending a choice will "Stay Home", and lose.

MeMeMeet Points


Each Player will receive 1 point for each other Player beaten, plus 1 point for going to the Bass Pro Shop.

Game 3 - Secret Tijuana Deathmatch


Lynching isn't as exciting as it used to be; especially when it doesn't even happen. And nothing spices things up like fights to the death in Mexico.


Day will proceed in two stages. The first will last until someone reaches 8 votes, or 168 hours, whichever comes first. At the end of the first stage, if no one has at least 3 votes, or there is a three-or-more-way tie for the most votes, no one will die today. Otherwise, whoever has the most votes will be chosen as a fighter. If there is a two-way tie, both will fight. If there is a single vote leader, that player will choose an opponent from among those voting for that player or not voting at all.

Once the combatants are chosen, their secret wrestling identities will be revealed. Each player will receive 2 tiles (5 for the combatants) which may be used to affect the outcome of the fight. The fight will end when no tiles have been played for 48 hours, no tiles can be played which will change the outcome, or someone plays a tile which stops the fight and no one cancels this action within 24 hours.

The loser of the fight will be deemed condemned by God, fate, or whatever other higher power you want to insert here, and have his battered and broken body dragged off by the non-fighters to be lynched.

In the case of a tie, the crowd will riot, but both fighters will escape without further injury.

The winner of the fight will get to pick a prize: either the Big Gold Belt, or 7 MeMeMeet Points.

Game 4 - Texas Hold'em


What? Two games? At the same time? How will we cope?

Still, more opportunity for MeMeMeet Points!


Texas Hold'em Rules - Much of this has no bearing on this game, but if you are unfamiliar with poker hands, hold card ranks, and some of the terms, look here.

Each player will start with 10 chips. This game will last three rounds.

Each round, you will receive your hole cards by PM. Each player with chips remaining will ante 1 chip (see below). You then have 48 hours (72 hours for round 1, I'll be on a train) to decide (by PM) whether you want to fold, or bet. You may bet any whole number of chips up to all of your chips.

Once the bets are in, several pots will be formed:

Each player will put 1 chip in each pot (Pot 1, Pot 2, etc.) until their bet is exhausted.

Half the ante (round down) will go in Pot 1. The other half of the ante (round up) will go in the highest numbered pot that a player has put a chip in. Note that this means if you bet more than everyone else, you will at least win half the ante, even if you lose all the other pots.

Once the pots are determined, the community cards will be dealt, and the winner of each pot will be whichever player with a chip in that pot can make the best five card poker hand from the two hold cards and five community cards.

Game 3 - Secret Tijuana Deathmatch - The Fight


Stats:


Each fighter has 3 stats: Hit, Trix, Blok. In order to determine who is winning (or who wins when at the end of the fight), the stats are compared as they line up on the cards: Hit-Blok, Trix-Trix, Blok-Hit. For each comparison, the higher number wins, and whichever fighter wins more of these comparisons is winning the fight. If there is a tie for number of comparisons, the sum of the stats will be used as a tiebreaker. If there is still a tie, it remains a tie (if this is the case at the end of the fight, neither wins the purse, and neither is lynched).

Changing the Outcome:


Each player will receive a number of tiles; the fighters will receive 5 tiles and the other players will receive 2 tiles. These tiles may be played to affect the outcome of the fight. Anyone may play as many tiles as they like at any time during the fight (though once you are out of tiles, you're out, and can only affect the result by convincing others to help out).

Tiles:


80 Number Tiles: These range from 1 to 12 and can be played on top of any combat stat (on either fighter) that does not have a tile on it already. The tile's number replaces the one of the card. To play a number tile, post like: "
Play: 4 on The Mighty E's Blox
". (There are 10 each of 1-4 tiles, 7 each of 5-6 tiles, 6 of 7 tiles, 5 each of 8-10 tiles, 3 of 11 tiles, 2 of 12 tiles.)

40 Swearing Tiles: These are erasers. They can remove a number tile from either side. To play a swearing tile, post like: "
Remove: 3 from El Ocho's Hit
". They can also be used to "erase" a junk or lips tile (see below).

5 Computer Tiles ("System Error"): The computer tile allows you to rearrange all the number tiles on the fighters. (Rearrange, not discard.) To play a computer tile, post like: "
Rearrange: 7 on Angela Skye's Blox, 2 on Angela Skye's Trix, 9 on El Cheapo's Hit
".

5 Money Tiles ("Points!"): The money tile gains whoever plays it 1 MeMeMeet Point, but also adds 2 MeMeMeet Points to the purse for the fight. For example, if two money tiles are played, the winner of the fight will receive 4 MeMeMeet Points as well as his/her choice of the Big Gold Belt or 6 more MeMeMeet Points. To play a money tile, post:

5 Lips Tiles ("Kiss of Death!"): The lips tile stops the fight immediately; whoever is winning when it is played will win the fight, unless someone plays a swearing tile within 24 hours (in which case the fight will resume as before). To play a lips tile, post:

Everyone wakes up slowly... well, at least everyone that wakes up at all. There are confused expressions all around. The smell of tequilla lingers in the air, and there is the odd sense that the room was mysteriously transported to Tijuana and back. No one seems to remember what actually happened last night, though. It's as if everyone had some sort of temporary memory loss.


Oh well. It'll come back eventually. Probably just the tequilla.


There are two more dead. Pooky lies ripped in half, much like Atticus, revealing another giant green card. The other dead body, hidden under a +1 mask, is more familiar... wasn't he one of those comedy guys?

Game 5: Betrayal at House on a Hill


Without warning, the house begins to shake. It feels like an earthquake... but an earthquake this big? In Missouri?


The motion finally stops, and some of the attendees rush outside. The rest of the neighborhood seems completely undisturbed, except that everything is farther away and lower than it should be. The house now sits alone on a hill... and dark clouds are gathering.


These are not good omens.


The Haunt has begun!


From now until the end of the game or the Haunt (whichever comes first), you may attempt to stop the Traitor. You do this by attacking the Traitor with the correct item. Once every 48 hours, you may attempt to attack another player with an item. For example:
I attack mith with schizophrenia.
Periodically, the results of these attacks will be revealed.

Game 6: Prisoner's Dilemma - Battle for the Couch


Sleeping arrangements haven't been an issue thus far. You keep falling asleep against your will under strange circumstances.


Still, it might be time to stake your claim on a better couch. And if it comes to a fight to the death? That's just fine by you.


This game consists of two rounds. In each round, you will be paired with another player. You have 72 hours to choose (by PM) to either "Upgrade" or "Stay". Upgrading might get you a better couch (and a better couch means more MeMeMeet Points... for some unexplainable reason), but it might also get you in a fight which leaves you licking your wounds on the floor. You may discuss your choice with your partner/opponent in the thread if you wish.

If both players Upgrade, both players lose 5 MeMeMeet Points (for getting in a fight).
If one player Upgrades and the other player Stays, the player who Upgrades receives 10 MeMeMeet Points while the player who Stays loses 10 MeMeMeet Points (for being a chicken).

Game 5: Betrayal at House on a Hill - Attacks


Mr_Gnome_It_All hurls a Spear at Quagmire with all his might. It pierces his skull, partially lobotomizing him. (Quagmire loses one Sanity point.)

mlaker uses his chemistry knowledge to throw dry ice on olio's feet. That'll slow him down a bit... (olio loses one Speed point.)

ibaesha challenges Fritzler's sanity with a bout of PMS. Fritzler is too much of a man to be harmed by that, though. (No effect.)

MrBuddyLee sends a quark at Quagmire, travelling nearly at the speed of light. It doesn't hurt him, though. It's just a quark. In fact, it makes him stronger. (Quagmire gains one Might point.)

Atticus quickly bashes mlaker over the head with the candlestick. mlaker may have trouble remembering where he put the dry ice tomorrow. (mlaker loses one Knowledge point.)

PookyTheMagicalBear uses THE HAND OF ULTIMATE DEATH on Atticus. Unfortunately, all he manages to do is teach Atticus how to avoid THE HAND OF ULTIMATE DEATH. (Atticus gains one Knowledge point.)

olio strikes mlaker with a frying pan, another mighty blow. mlaker's brain takes another beating. (mlaker loses one Knowledge point.)

Anonymities catches olio distracted, and soon olio is tied to a chair in front of an old black and white tv that runs the same shows over and over again. olio doesn't go insane, but the chair certainly restricts his movement. (olio loses one Speed point.)

Fishbulb throws a bag full of pennies at MrBuddyLee. MrBuddyLee buys some running shoes. (MrBuddyLee gains one Speed point.)

Fritzler challenges olio to AN ICE CREAM BURGER eating competition. Mmm. Ice cream burger. (No effect.)

Game 5: Betrayal at House on a Hill - Attacks


Atticus gives Dirge Books too complicated to read. Not only does Dirge not learn anything from them, but carrying them around slows him quite a lot. (Dirge loses one Speed point.)

Quagmire points at Anonymities and throws his head back and unleashes CREEPY LAUGHTER AND GIGGLING TO MAKE HIM FEEL BAD. It just cheers Anonymities up. (Anonymities gains one Speed point.)

Dirge approaches the lane with Fred Flintstone-esque form and rolls a bowling ball beautifully for a strike. The crushing defeat leaves Fritzler a bit crazy. (Fritzler loses one Sanity point.)

ibaesha passes of a 2 year old's temper tantrum to Quagmire. Eventually he gives in and carries the child, which calms the tantrum but slows Quagmire. (Quagmire loses one Speed point.)

mlaker makes some acrobatic attacks with a lightsaber, but Mr_Gnome_It_All blocks easily, and gains a deeper insight into the Force. (Mr_Gnome_It_All gains one Knowledge point.)

Fritzler unexpectedly sends THE SPANISH INQUISITION after Quagmire. After some hideous cushion torture, Quagmire doesn't know how many lights there are. (Quagmire loses one Knowledge point.)

Mr_Gnome_It_All sends forth an Animated Lawn Gnome as his champion against the mighty Fritzler. In a fierce battle, Fritzler is wounded. (Fritzler loses one Might point.)

PookyTheMagicalBear assaults Mr_Gnome_It_All with a sense of humor. He needs to work on his timing. (Mr_Gnome_It_All loses one Speed point.)

Anonymities uselessly attacks Quagmire by sicking a rabid purple hippopotomaus on him. (No effect.)

olio invites mlaker to take a seat on the Sofa. It is very comfortable, and mlaker doesn't want to leave it. (mlaker loses one Speed point.)

Fishbulb calls on Jimmy Hoffa for a hit on Dirge. It just gives Dirge knowledge of Jimmy Hoffa's whereabouts. (Dirge gains one Knowledge point.)

"We've got 7 votes. Can you get on with lynching kristocker?"

"What? Already? Oh. Ok."

There is a flash, and the kristocker mask falls away to reveal...

As the remaining inhabitants of the house (now on a hill) wake, they notice that Dirge has already been up. He's sitting at the kitchen table, holding a reddish beverage.


Dirge waking early in his own house to have a drink wouldn't be particularly noteworthy on its own.


Even just someone wearing a convincing Dirge mask doing the same wouldn't be too peculiar. Aside from the mask, of course.


This scene, however, is strange for two reasons:


One, there is a stake protruding from his chest.


Two, the beverage is blood.

Game 7: I'm the Boss!


...and you're not so big.


Each player will be assigned a character from one of six families. Additionally, a Boss will be randomly picked to start with.

Each player will also be given 5 cards.

Players may vote for as many other players as they like at any time; votes indicate a willingness to go along with a "deal" to lynch that player. In order for a lynch to occur, a player must have votes from someone representing each of the six families; once this happens, the Boss may choose to declare a deal (by posting
Deal: Lynch XXXX
). Once the deal is declared, the player is lynched immediately and Day ends (however, a deal cannot be declared until Game 8 has ended, by Gameplay Rule 2).

During the game, players may play cards to modify various family influences. The cards are:

Boss Card - This card may be played by stating "
I'm the Boss!
". Whoever plays it immediately becomes the new Boss.

Character Card - This card may be played by stating "
Influence: XXXX
". This allows your vote to represent an additional family (it does not replace whatever other character cards you might be influencing; you may represent multiple families, and families may be represented by multiple players).

Travel Card - This card may be played on a character by stating "
XXXX - Take a Vacation!
". The character is removed and the player who controlled that character loses his/her influence on that character's family (unless they have another character from the same family).

Recruitment Card - This card may be played on a character by stating "
Recruit XXXX
". The character is now controlled by the recruiter.

Stop Card - This card may be played on another non-character card by stating "
Stop: XXXX
". The effects of the card are immediately cancelled. Only the most recent Boss card can be cancelled (with the previous Boss being restored to the position). Likewise, if a character has been recruited multiple times, only the most recent recruitment can be cancelled. (Unlike the actual game, a stop card
can
stop another stop card here.)

Game 8: 52 Card Pickup


Whee! Points!


You may pick up a card by posting the card's name in bold. For example:
Ace of Clubs
. Only cards found in a standard 52 card deck count (no jokers). In order for a pickup to count:

The card must not have been successfully picked up already.

Two other players must have posted since your last successful pickup, or three hours must have passed (whichever happens first).

The game ends when all card have been claimed, or 96 hours passes, whichever happens first.

MeMeMeet Points


Each Player will receive 1 point for each other Player beaten, plus 4 points for helping pick up the cards.

Mod Note:
To kick start things after the downtime, and hopefully to get people playing cards, I have decided to put everyone's character cards into play. For each family you were not already influencing, you each play one character card for that family if you have one. Note that if you have more than one character for a family, you still hold it in reserve in case anyone steals one of your characters or sends them on vacation.

To give everyone time to deal with the changes, no deal may be declared until everyone has posted, or until 72 hours have passed, whichever happens first. I will be sending prods in the next day or two if anyone has not posted in that time.

The following vote count is how things now stand with the new changes. Players in blue need only the boss's approval to be lynched.

Scene 12 - July 27, 11:59 PM


The day seems to drag on forever.


It starts when the 10 remaining party animals are mysteriously transported to a generic board room, much as happened a couple days previously when they found themselves in a Tijuana wrestling arena (or at least, that's what they assume happened; none of them can actually remember what happened that day, as Scene 8 still hasn't been written). Time doesn't work quite the same way in board rooms, even in normal situations.


And soon the newly formed board finds that this is not a normal situation. Time seems to stand still on occasion, and some of the group suffer from short-term memory loss. A couple even completely change personalities.


Finally, one of these schizophrenic types takes the lead and, with enough approval from the rest of the board, he declares a deal to lynch Thesp.


Thesp has been silent for much of this time, and before he can protest the disembodied head (in a jar) of Donald Trump, which no one has noticed sitting in the middle of the table, shouts:


"You're fired!"

And a hole opens in the floor, dropping Thesp to his doom.

Game 9: Ultimatum


Doesn't this sound like it should be a TV game show?


This game is played between pairs of players. One is the "Divider" and one is the "Decider".

First, the Divider divides 10 MeMeMeet Points (any real number division allowed, as long as both are positive and they add to 10) between the two players. This first phase will last 72 hours. Players may discuss as much as they like within the thread during this time. However, once a division has been sent, it cannot be changed.

Once the division has been made, the Decider can choose to either accept or reject it. If the division is accepted, each player gets that number of MeMeMeet Points. If the division is rejected, neither player gets anything. This phase will also last 72 hours. During this phase, no discussion about this game is allowed.

If the Divider fails to send a division, a random one will be chosen, but the Divider will not receive any points whether the Decider accepts or rejects the division. If the Decider fails to send a decision, the Divider will receiver his share of the points and the Decider will receive nothing.

The players will be paired with two other players at random, once as the Divider and once as the Decider. All divisions and decisions will happen at the same time (so everyone will divide for a pair, and then everyone will decide for another pair). Game 10: Rock, Paper, Scissors Ultimate Tournament of Champions Throwdown


Ah, point whoring at its finest.


This game will be played as a simultaneous round robin, which everyone facing everyone else.

Each player will submit a list of five choices per opponent. The deadline for submission is 120 hours from this post. For example, player "A" might send:

B: RPRRS
C: PRPPS
D: SSRPR
E: SRSSP

Each list will be compared to the corresponding opponent's list and treated as a best of five match (Rock beats Scissors, Scissors beats Paper, Paper beats Rock). So, if player "B" sent:

A: PRRSS

The result would be 2-1 in favor of A, with two ties.

MeMeMeet Points


Each player will receive a half point for each throw won.
The winner of each match will receive 5 points. If there is a tie, each player in the tie will receive 2 points.
The overall winner (by best match winning percentage, ties broken by head-to-head and then best throw winning percentage) will receive an additional 5 points.

This is the final game for MeMeMeet Points. Once this game and Game 5 are completed, the results will be final. Choose wisely!

Scene 16 - July 29, 7:59 PM


Sixteen people have died in the past week, yet only one thing is on the minds of the remaining five for most of the day, and it's not the murders, their own safety, or revenge. No, something supersedes all of that.


Yes, you've guessed it. What could be more important than the honor, fame, and glory there to be won at the Rock, Paper, Scissors Ultimate Tournament of Champions Throwdown?


The participants spend the morning getting ready. The throws are planned, the gambits studied, and now it is time for the main event.


The Mod, who happens to be qualified as an officially recognized Throwdown referee, calls forward the participants in the first match. As they approach, the room seems to shift in reality, the walls losing their solidity and giving way to a surging crowd. The noise quickly rises from that of a quiet house in the summertime to that of a sold-out stadium, complete with commentators...


Sadly, we have failed to reach an agreement with the Ocho to rebroadcast this event in its entirety, so instead the two main results:


To no one's surprise, mith, reigning GL and Grudge Match champion, came through the brutal round robin to claim yet another Throwdown championship on a tiebreak.


The real shocker, however, was the total no-show by one of the participants, spork76. Ok, so perhaps it shouldn't have been that much of a shocker, but the way he just stood there and took throw after throw without any reaction...


It almost goes without saying that once the Throwdown championship was decided, the other four lynched him.

Scene 17 - July 29, 8:59 PM


It's an hour after the passing of the one true Fletcher... or a passing, at least, given that he was a Zombie. Everyone is a little relieved that they have eliminated another Zombie, but also a little shaken by who it was. Actually, "mith" and "mlaker" seem more than a little shaken. Suddenly, they turn to the other two, their sadness turned to wrath.


"You! It's your fault! You did this to him!"

They move forward to throttle the other two. "lemuel" manages to duck out of the way, but "mith" grabs "Maverick" and squeezes "his" hands around the throat. The victim's hands thrash about, trying to loosen his attacker's grip. In a last effort, he grabs something and pulls, but it is only the mask, finally ripping off, too late.


"mith" looks down and recoils, releasing the dead boy's throat. It's not Maverick at all.


Quagmire, playing Maverick (Atticus) is dead.

The mith and mlaker masks fall off, revealing MeMe and Dirge respectively. They approach "lemuel" slowly, kitchen knives in hand, backing him into a corner.


Just as they are attack, the Mod steps in.


"You can't kill him."

"What? But our children are dead!"

"He got the most MeMeMeet Points, though."

MeMe and Dirge glance back at the big chart of results. Though it is across the room, the top of the chart almost seems to be glowing, so that they can make out clearly the name at the top.


They look at each other, trying to decide what to do. Finally, they nod to each other, and MeMe turns back to the remaining houseguest.


"Well. You did get more points than those two put together. And it would be too quiet around here, otherwise..."

And so, their house rid of all invaders, MeMe, Dirge, and the newly adopted Point Whore, live happily ever after... at least, until DirgeDo.

Some random notes:

MeMe, Dirge, Fletcher, and Atticus (the roles) all survived to the final day. That didn't even register with me until I was writing the thing up, as I was used to thinking in terms of "Mafia"/"Zombie"/Town.

I really enjoyed days 2 and 3. Thesp had done a good job of setting himself up to get lynched... too good, in fact, because the Zombies predicted him both days (so if he had gotten a majority, he would've become a Zombie rather than fulfilling his win condition), and then Pooky guessed that he was suicidal.

mlaker didn't figure out the Dracula role. You should be able to figure it out from the spreadsheet, but I'll give it a more complete description later.

The Haunt was a red herring. Points could have been won, as mentioned, but none of the players was the Traitor. Given that information, can you figure out how the Traitor could have been stopped?

Pooky's targets were completely random, with the exception that one of his successes had to be innocent; once he got Fishbulb lynched, his targets would have been chosen from the innocents (though he didn't know this).

Neither of the Blank Green Cards (after Fletcher died) sent any choices. Both of them had role abilities.

The Dracula role:

The MeMe, Dirge, Fletcher, and Atticus roles had positive blood types (one of each, and set up so they could actually occur). All other roles had negative blood types (at least one of each). The only other restriction was that roles with the same name (Jimmy Hoffa, Point Whore, Blank Green Card) got the same blood type. Otherwise, they were random.

The Haunt:
From now until the end of the game or the Haunt (whichever comes first), you may attempt to stop the Traitor. You do this by attacking
the Traitor
with
the correct item

The game would have been won by someone attacking "The Traitor" with "the correct item". 5 points for everyone still alive (in the Haunt game), plus 5 extra for whoever made the attack.

The mechanics otherwise: Each player was randomly assigned stats to the four categories (total of 16, min 2, max 6 to start with). The Traitor had a 6 in each. When an attack was made, it was assigned a category (I assigned them in groups of four, one of each type, and did the best I could making them fit). Each player "rolled" a game dice (like in the actual game, two 0s, two 1s, two 2s) for each point in the category used. If the attacker's roll was higher, the defender lost a point from a random category; if the attacker's roll was lower, the defender gained a point from a random category; and if the rolls were the same, no effect. A player was killed if a stat went to 0, or if they died in the Mafia game. The Traitor attacked randomly whenever I needed attacks to fill out the four categories (so if there were 9 attacks to resolve, I would add 3 Traitor attacks) or when nothing had happened for a while (as happened once or twice).

The crash was of course annoying, but I don't think it caused more than one of the replacements (and I'm not even sure about that one). jeep and ibaesha both had personal things come up, Maverick was never really around at all, and spork... well, I don't think I was really expecting him to keep up in the first place, to be honest. Our replacements did an excellent job really (especially Anonymities, who was pretty much screwed by spork not participating in the games, but tried hard anyway). Obviously, it would have been good if everyone from MeMeMeet had been able to play the entire game, but mechanics-wise there wasn't all that much the MetMeMes would have had an advantage figuring out.

The crash did kill the momentum of the game, though, and that was certainly unfortunate. ~shakes fist at bluehost~

My next post will have some details on the creation of the setup (if you have anything in particular you're curious about, let me know and I'll make sure to address it), and hopefully I'll also finish getting stuff put into the spreadsheet by then.

The Setup:

When I first started designing this game, I knew I wanted to include stuff from some of the many non-Mafia games we played at MeMeMeet. My original idea was far more complicated, involving cards that could be earned which would directly impact the Mafia game (for example, the sword thing from Halo, as a one-shot kill). In the end, I decided that would be either too random, too complicated, too boring, or all three. So instead, I went with the MeMeMeet Points system.

The games were loosely in one of four categories - Voting (STD, I'm the Boss), Psychology (Minority, Prisoner's Dilemma, Ultimatum, which are fairly well known in game theory), "Proper" (Things..., Texas Hold'em, games we actually played at MeMeMeet, but modified to fit your screen), and Whoring (52 Card Pickup, RPS). The Voting games were pre-determined to fall on days 3 and 5, with the Haunt starting on 4 as a Red Herring game. Otherwise, the order of the games was pretty much randomly determined before we started, except games of the same type wouldn't come back-to-back.

The point system was pretty arbitrary, with early games on a "who'd you beat" scale, and later games on a more direct scale. Obviously surviving longer was going to help, but I didn't want that to be the deciding factor, so players only got "free points" for playing the first few days. And with Prisoner's Dilemma, of course, there was the possibility of losing points.

Roles:

A few roles were obvious for inclusion, and once I had decided on the MeMeMeet Point system, "Point Whore" was one of them. I liked this role, though not much interested ended up happening with it. The intention was that they would have to try to help the town, since they were pro-town, but maybe not absolutely as much as they could, because they had the other condition as well. For example, doing poorly on the first game deliberately would have earned them their investigation, but there was a risk that they would die soon after, or just not be able to catch their target. Or, they could go hard after their target to try to take them out of the running for points, but might hurt the town in the process.

The Blank Green Card was the other "basic townie" role I included. No one tried sending choices, which surprised me, given that every time the card was used at MeMeMeet (outside of Halo Mafia), it had an ability of some sort.

The scum groups seemed pretty natrual to me. I wasn't sure to begin with whether to include *any* actual scummers, but MeMe and Dirge filled out the Concerned Parents nicely.

As for the Zombies, I think I mistakenly voted for Fletcher after he was already dead or something like that, and then accused him of being in the Zombie Mafia, so that's where they came from. In a later game, I was cult and could recruit anyone, even if they weren't actually playing (though they didn't have to agree to come in to the game). MeMe refused, but +1 joined even though he had already been killed, and that's where the recruit ability got its inspiration. Jimmy Hoffa seemed like a good third choice.

And then the obvious joke was to put Jimmy Hoffa as town, too.

The Lyncher role was used several times at MeMeMeet, and I like Serial Killers that actually have a chance of winning, so I created the Serial Lyncher. Given his three win conditions and his night time immunity, Pooky had an even better chance of winning this game than VM2 (and it really was random!).

The Suicidal was also used a couple times, and the "Jester" flavor worked, so I threw it in. Thesp was pretty close to pulling it off, and then Pooky figured him out, so I was happy with the role and its fairness overall.

As far as the town abilities, I kept with my general MO of weak investigators; Dracula was Miller-esque in his role name, and didn't directly find scum, while the Point Whores had their own agenda. We played a Hospital game or two, so I decided to throw in plenty of protections, blocking, and hiding; given the potential for three kills a night, I wanted to make it a little harder for those kills to actually go through (though in the end, Pooky didn't ever try to kill, and none of the other kills were stopped).

Overall, I was fairly pleased with the balance. Probably a few tweaks I'd make looking back on it now, but I always think that.

The spreadsheet is still not finished, unfortunately... maybe I won't put it off as long as the VM2 post-game, though. ;)
