I'm deliberately playing like I imagine you would, not how I would(which typically involves a lot more lurking), and it seems weird to me for you to say that. I'm wary of Sakura right now...I'm still trying to figure out how she puzzles into this game.

I know from firsthand experience that, even if only one partner is posting, the hydra can still be adversely affected by the presence/lack of one of the partners. It can indirectly hurt a slot's flow and generally fuck with tempo.

See, when Sneasel was first shown everyone was like hell yeah, but then his main stab was like special and he was physical and then there were no good ice type moves for three generations. Weavile was technically OU in Gen IV, but was considered one off the worst minds in the tier mostly used as a counter to dragons, but it was a big joke because Mamoswine's fucking Ice Shard did more damage after stab with priority than Weavile using anything AND could stealth rock I think. Gen V wasn't kind either because fucking ice types are shot and game freak hates them. Why would you ever want an Ice type when Water has better neutral STAB and god tier defenses and the fact that its gen VI and fucking dragons are now worse than water types due to little cute fae sprites but its okay because Greninjas the worst design of the starter trio but I gotta admit he has some pretty cool fighting, Poliwrath was a cool UU for like three gens then lolKeldeo and VOTE: Agar but who even fucking knows. At least he's not like that bastard cousin Politoed, the sole reason I quit OU. First, I will say that lynching pie is not a bad maneuver--it is a perfectly valid option.

But, leaving pie alive is a high-risk, high-reward maneuver. Yes, we eventually have to deal with him, but on the other hand, we get a "free" vig kill each night that we get to choose. For the scum to stop this, they have to either play WIFOM w/pie and shoot him(possibly losing a kill). Or they have to burn their roleblocks/redirects on him as opposed to people who have claimed night actions like (assume town for this scenario) majiffy or leviathan--a town net positive. If they don't they might lose a scum depending on who the town chooses(like, imagine if AA9 is scum right now). Yes, we might lose additional townies, but I'm fine with that happening if it means we get additional chances of killing scum.
