I legitimately do not understand how Druids are ever supposed to win.

I can't remember the last time I lost to one

And I just threw together a junk custom deck to start leveling / getting basic cards (since I've hit level 10 on all the other classes but Druid/Warlock), and I don't get it. There's so much inherent card disadvantage among Druid cards. It feels awful.

Definitely just won an arena game through triple flamestrike. Turns out double Lightspawn + Triple Temple Enforcer is pretty good.

So, on DEing cards you don't have 3 (or more) of....

I hear some people say to never do it, because collection and potential balance changes. Then I look at cards like Angry Chicken and realize they'll never be more than a dumb novelty thing that I don't care for.

Where would people draw the line as far as what to DE and what to keep? Given that I'm new and don't have any idea of the nerf/buff history of cards, or how frequently balance changes are made, I've not DE'd anything yet, but there are a few things I'd like to turn into something useful.

Beat the first dude pretty easily.

Except it took like 45 minutes because holy fuck lag. Wish I hadn't bothered.

I'll do the others later this week I guess, once things settle down.

But I'm happy to play 5-10 games every two or three days and not pay anything. I'll pick Arena back up once I've gotten all of the new content.

Ugh. What do you do when your arena draft gives you literally 12 choices that are:
5/6-drop
5/6-drop
unplayable garbage like Wisp.

I guess the trade-off to doing draw on death is that you need to actually build the board state. Sweepers/removal really prevent you from doing that. It's not like it's easy to get to 7-8 mana with three dudes on the table who can trade, except against specific decks.

This is me, too. Last mage draft I got none of the above AND no polymorphs AND no mage epics.

Oh yeah, I didnt get a polymorph either, or any epics/legendaries. I went 1-3 :(

Okay, idk if RNG hates me or if they fucked with the system, but I've got another mage deck with NONE of these things. 0-2 with a pile of bad creatures and a couple of sub-par removal spells.

Eh. 4 mana to maybe replace himself on the next turn and hopefully get ahead a turn or two after that? You're honestly better off paying the 2 mana and 2 life for the guaranteed thing. It's not as though Handlock is hurting for card advantage.

That feeling when you start 7-0 in arena... And then run into three god draws and bow out just like that.

Incidentally, I learned something. I used to build my decks with way too steep a curve. I've started loading up on more efficient 2-3 drops, which has served me well.

Been having a lot of fun with the following budget Shaman deck (because there are still a bunch of rares/epics that I don't own, much less most legendaries).

2x Earth Shock
2x Lightning Bolt
2x Rockbiter Weapon
1x Stormforged Axe
1x Windfury
2x Flametongue Totem
1x Ironbeak Owl
2x Feral Spirit
2x Hex
1x Lightning Storm
1x Earthen Ring Farseer
2x Shade of Naxxramas
2x Unbound Elemental
1x Doomhammer
1x Azure Drake
2x Sludge Belcher
2x Fire Elemental
1x Sylvanas
1x Ragnaros

Board states like this make me happy:

On a completely different note, this is the budget deck I've been running lately...

2x Soulfire
2x Mortal Coil
2x Power Overwhelming
2x Demonfire
2x Shadow Bolt
1x Hellfire
1x Shadowflame

2x Undertaker
2x Voidwalker
2x Loot Hoarder
2x Nerubian Egg
1x Harvest Golem
1x Void Terror
2x Voidcaller
1x Azure Drake
2x Doomguard
2x Sludge Belcher
1x Sylvanas Windrunner

It's not fantastically good, but it's a lot of fun, and I didn't have to craft anything to make it.

The fact that there's no way to obtain Classic cards without buying packs or crafting cards is making me want to quit.

I started what, six months ago, maybe? And now that GvG is the only reward set available from Arena, I basically have no way of obtaining Legendaries that I need, and constructed is largely pointless with consistently underpowered decks.

30g is a fortunate return.

I managed a 7 win run yesterday/today. Then I got a 1-3 pile of crap.

But then I crafted Dr. Boom so it was k.

Yeah I saw the list. Problem is I have no hobgoblins, only one Ancient of Lore, and I don't think I have a Force of Nature either. So right now I'm going to do more of a traditional ramp Druid.

Been having fun mostly with Ramp Druid, Shaman, and Hunter lately, even though I don't quite have the cards for full druid. It's still quite good against the current glut of aggro decks I've seen.

EDIT: Can someone post/link a list for Oil Druid? I haven't really seen much of it. That said, I've only played enough ranked to go from 20-15 so maybe I'm just not there yet. But I want to be prepared knowing what I'll be facing sooner or later.

I have enough dust to craft a Legendary finally... here's what I have so far:

Cenarius
Tirion

Millhouse
Illidan
Sylvanas
Dr. Boom
Ragnaros
Sneed
Malygos
Nozdormu
Ysera
Deathwing

I'm thinking about:
Archmage Antonidas
Jaraxxus
Bloodmage Thalnos
Harrison Jones
Baron Geddon
Alexstrasza

...thoughts?

Harrison is what I was leaning towards. He seems very necessary in the current meta.

Either of the class legendaries are probably my other most likely options.

I just feel like nobody actually plays TBK in anything right now. Obviously it's good against Sludge Belcher and Druid, but I feel like I don't see much Druid and I've had an ok time dealing with Belchers in general.

Harrison seems more necessary to deal with some of those crazy aggro decks.

AUGH I DON'T KNOW WHY CAN'T I JUST HAVE BOTH MAYBE I SHOULD JUST DE A BUNCH OF STUFF TO DO THAT

Idk, at rank 14 I feel like I've seen more Hunter, Rogue, and Mage than anything else, and Harrison is really

I went with TBK anyway. He is more universally useful with Sludge Belcher, Annoy-O-Tron, and even Defender of Argus being a thing.

Too often people remember when RNG fucks them over, but occasionally it's nice to laugh about a complete god draw.

Playing Druid vs Handlock:
Turn 1 innvervate -> Shade
Turn 2 hero power
Turn 3 hero power
Turn 4 Shredder, Swing w/Shade
Turn 5 Druid, swing w/everyone
Turn 6 FoN, gg

Literally nothing he could do.

Been playing Priest lately with rather good results.

Emperor Thaurissan is fucking insane. No doubt nerfs will be incoming.

EDIT:
Spoiler: List
2x Circle of Healing
2x Light of the Naaru
2x Power Word: Shield
2x Northshire Cleric
2x Zombie Chow
2x Wild Pyromancer
1x Shadow Word: Death
2x Thoughtsteal
2x Velen's Chosen
1x Dark Cultist
2x Injured Blademaster
1x Shadow Madness
2x Auchenai Soulpriest
2x Holy Nova
1x Emperor Thaurissan
1x Sylvanas Windrunner
1x Dr. Boom
1x Ysera
1x Mind Control

The big noteworthy absence is Cabal Shadow Priest, but I've found that between the Pyromancers, Holly Novas, and Soulpriest/Circle, I have aggro very well under control. So I opted for more tools vs control, and it's working well so far.

I don't yet have Grommash, which is megasadface. But the deck works out well enough without him, tbh. Most of the time as soon as I combo out w/Patron, people surrender anyway. TBK/Harrison/Loatheb comes down to preference.

I've been running Patron Warrior without Grom for weeks. It's fine. Grom helps, as it's a SURPRISE win condition by itself, but it is by no means necessary to make the deck work.

Plus, I've seen people play around Grom even without me having him in the deck, which has actually been helpful.

Don't pay to make arena runs, especially when you're first starting. Arena requires a decent working knowledge of the entire card pool to have a decent shot at making it fun, and if you pay to draft right off the bat and go 0-3 or 1-3 a few times you'll find yourself discouraged and wanting to quit.

Cut a Gnomish Inventor for an Inner Rage and a Slam for Loot Hoarder.

Dread Corsair is fine in Warrior Control but not very good in Patron Warrior. It doesn't do anything to support the combo.

Current Patron build:

2x Execute
2x Whirlwind
2x Fiery War Axe
2x Battle Rage
1x Slam
2x Cruel Taskmaster
2x Loot Hoarder
1x Unstable Ghoul
2x Shield Block
2x Acolyte of Pain
2x Frothing Berserker
2x Warsong Commander
2x Death's Bite
1x Gnomish Inventor
1x Brawl
2x Grim Patron
1x Emperor Thaurissan
1x Dr. Boom

I'd replace Boom w/Grom if I had him. The single Brawl is something I stole from a streamer I watch regulalrly, it's actually a pretty useful recovery tool even though it might seem counterintuitive in a Patron deck. I also want to get Battle Rage back in the deck, maybe for one of the Loot Hoarders.

Against the heroic bosses in solo adventure, because typically they're unfair in a way thats not dependent on card advantage, so you can turn a minion on the board into two cards in their hand for one mana, which is usually a good deal against the ones that rush the hell out of you with their hero power.

Except they were talking about Arena, not solo adventures.

Naturalize is only a viable option in Arena if you're late in your draft, short on removal, and desperately need the ability to stop auto-win cards. It's also a card you should basically never take more than one of.

Tavern Bawls sound interesting. I like that you'll be able to set a card back for each deck. Couldn't be fucked to care about new-heroes-same-classes unless one of the new heroes turns out to be super cool/badass.

Fwiw, I would drop one battle rage for either a second Armorsmith or Loot Hoarder/Shield Block.

I'm also not a fan of Dread Corsair, as it does nothing to help your combo. I run 2x Shield Block instead because it gets me through the deck faster and Corsair is generally only worth about 5-6 health anyway.

Also yeah, you don't have to use Patrons only when you have lethal with them. Turn 4 Death's Bite / swing, turn 5 Patron & swing for whirlwind effect is one of Patron combo's favorite plays. It's instant value and unless your opponent can remove both Patrons right away there's a good chance you'll get even more value out of them.

That's baseless speculation/wishing from player base though.

Right now:
Arena gives GvG packs only. Random cards earned as Arena awards can be of either Classic or GvG sets.
Tavern Brawls give one classic pack for your first wi

Classic packs give classic cards. GvG pack give GvG cards. Either pack can be bought for 100 gold or real money.

It's unclear what the July 22 announcement will be, but while it seems somewhat likely to be a new expansion / adventure, anything beyond that is just rumors or people posting what they hope/wish will happen.

Yeah I know how you feel, I started playing right around when GvG came out, so I've had to dump thousands and thousands of gold & dust trying to build up my collection.

I'm pretty sure it's mathematically impossible to not have any drops on their appropriate turns with face hunter, so I don't really get what you're saying here.

Control priest is surprisingly fun. But it's unfun to play against sometimes.

Also sorry I skipped out on you watching me play Patron the other day. I had to go :(

I gave in and spent money on the 50 TGT packs for $50.

Already have enough dust for 2x legendaries when TGT hits. Super excited about the new expansion, some fun looking cards!

I fancy the legendary three drops. 3/4 for three mana is already good, and adding those abilities is just... Silly.

Of course it's power creep. They're rarer and Blizzard wants people to invest in the new set.

Power creep will always exist, especially in games that don't phase out cards (think: standard format in MtG) or nerf existing cards on a more regular basis.

Ever since yesterday's update, I've been getting this weird lag in Hearthstone only.

The game client won't let me take any action (playing a card, attacking, hero power, ending turn) until the animation of the previous action has COMPLETELY ended. I've roped multiple times because of this, and I have no idea what's causing it.

Every other game / application is fine. No packet loss or anything. It seems to be just Hearthstone acting up on me.

Thoughts/suggestions?

Reinstall did not help. :(

I'm seeing a variety of different bugs/issues just perusing the Hearthstone subreddit. Nothing that matches my issue, but I'm hoping that there will be patches/hotfixes for some of these things, which might help resolve whatever's going on with my game client. Until then, I guess I just have to deal with it.

What's your deck list?

Mulligan for 0-2 drops (Zombie Chow of you're running it, Innervate, Wild Growth, Wrath), try to ramp up to big dudes as soon as possible. By the time you have 5 mana crystals you want to always be dropping threats and keeping board control. If you're not playing Force of Nature/Savage Roar combo, you should be. In general (though not always) you want to prioritize killing their dudes over going face so you keep that board control and can just hit combo for the win.

TGT is out!

What are people crafting?

BTW, got 3 legendaries from my packs: Fjola Lightsbane, Bolf Ramshield, and Nexus-Champion Saraad. And between the dust I had earlier and the dust I got from the packs, I can craft 3 more. And then my game crashed and now I can't get back in. \o/

At one point I saw a control priest list out there that sort of focuses on Aucheani Soulpriest with stuff like Flash Heal that looked fun. The idea of flash heal + hero power to take out Dr Boom feels delicious.

Also, Hotform (my preferred HS streamer) just made Rank 1 Legend again on stream w/Patron Warrior and won a couple of games to buffer his ELO. He went 28-8 with it tonight, a pretty solid record. So yeah, Patron still p good.

He's currently trying out the Brawl to celebrate. http://www.twitch.tv/hotform :3

The four cards you pitch back get shuffled, so it doesn't really matter that you saw them. Also, if you're mulling four cards, you're stuck with four random cards from your deck, which is way less than ideal for any combo deck.

...he's talking about just Hungry Dragon. The scenarios you're bringing up are multiple card combos that cost 8-10 mana. Just Hungry Dragon, as a 4-drop, is the context we're talking about. And in that context, it's not so good.

Sometime in the last week I got terrible at Patron Warrior. Or just shitty luck. I haven't gotten to play much lately (work + cancer = no energy), so today I had three quests, all of which could be achieved by winnning Warrior games. Decided to play Patron Warrior, and I lost some 15-20 games before I won the 5 necessary to complete my dailies. Really frustrating. :/

uh what are you playing that is taking 30 minutes

I play very average game length decks like Mechmage and Secretadin. I'm just awful at making time estimates. I stand corrected here.

Those decks, especially mechmage, have almost no decisions and just count on cancer draws. Don't complain about lack of decision points if thats what you are playing?

If I could play control warrior and force my opponent to control warrior ditto me, I would. But if I play control Warrior or Patron warrior and may opponent shows up with Facehunter and Mechmage, then it feels like I'm playing solitaire, and then after I'm done with solitaire we both get a match result off of it. Still doesn't feel good.

Have you met your new favorite deck, Non-Demon Handlock? Decisions every turn, even against aggro! Reacting carefully to the board!

His point is that even if he is playing a deck that requires decision making on every turn, if his opponent is playing a no-decision deck it feels like he's playing by himself
Edit: which is something I kind of agree with. Playing vs face hunter is like playing a solitaire game, no matter what deck I'm playing. yes I have to make decisions but they're against a random pile of cards, it's as if there isn't an opponent just a set of rules that dictates the game state.

Yeah it was d swords, goldshire, and something equally unplayable.

I beat two mages that didn't have flamestrike and lost to one that did, then I had to go. I think it could get to 10 wins though. There are 3-4 cards I'm not happy with but the rest are solid.

lol, I wiped at three wins. Fucking ridiculous draws.

EDIT: I lost to a rogue on turn 6 that just had insane aggro I couldn't deal with even a little, and then I lost to a mage that had more removal than I've ever seen in an arena deck. Fucking mages are everywhere.

So now that the meta has settled down a bit, I have enough dust to craft one legendary. What should I make?

My TGT legendaries are: Dreadscale, Rhonin, Fjola Lightbane, Nexus-Champion Saraad, Bolf Ramshield.
I have pretty much every relevant Classic and GvG legendary except, like... Jaraxxus and Mal'Ganis.

Fair. To be honest, I haven't played much at all since TGT came out -- mostly because of chemo/cancer related stuff, but partly because the game is just frustrating for me right now. I was leaning towards Chillmaw, and will probably wind up crafting that for Dragon Priest, but I find myself basically just playing enough to get my dailies done, and doing the occasional Arena run on my days off.

Yeah Hotform is like the quintessential Canadian in that he's always super positive and friendly. Even when he gets into debates with his chat it's constructive and good natured.

I think I have a man crush on him. <____<

I conceded after my opponent roped, and got my pack for "winning."

After taking a full month off from ranked play to let the meta settle down, I finally started again, with control warrior.

I don't own Grom, and I'm still getting used to how to play the deck, but still 5-0 so far (1 secret pally, 1 midrange pally, 2 midrange hunter, 1 tempo mage). It seems really good right now but maybe I've just been lucky so far.

I actually really like the current meta aside from the existence of Secret Paladin. One 6 mana card shouldn't also get you a pair of 2/1s, and +3/+2 to another dude, on top of the 6/6 body it already is.

(EDIT: I think the recent success of 8/9 champions at the Hearthstone World Champs Top 16 helped. I'm seeing more Shamans, Hunters that aren't facehunter, and just generally healthier decks.)

I completely agree re: Decision Making. I personally prefer more control/combo decks that require decision making, but I respect the need to make aggro players happy. That said, decks like the ones you've mentioned make Hearthstone basically a solitaire game 75% of the time. Dumb, decisionless decks should never be the strongest, because they flood the meta and you wind up playing a solitaire game where you hope you draw better than the AI Bot which throws down cards and attacks your face.

TBH most of the fun I have playing HS right now is on Wednesdays, when I get to try out whatever new Tavern Brawl is out.

It's sad and pathetic to say, but I find "play deck that is 80% Webspinners" more enjoyable than ranked play right now. That tells you how bad the state of the game currently is.

In other HS news, Hotform made Top 8 at the HS world championship and will be on BlizzCon's main stage. He thanked his small but dedicated Twitch community when he made it. He is also the only player from the Americas left and will be looking to keep the title in NA after Firebat won last year.

Make Dr. Boom like a 7/4 and he's probably fine. It means not every deck has to run BGH just to deal with his big fat ass.

Also, Hotform made Top 4! Semifinals and Grand Finals will both be tomorrow.

I run basically a carbon copy of what Hotform created & posted a couple of months ago. Mulligan for Mad Scientist & Flamewaker, and cheap removal. Use your spell synergy to consistently wipe board and maintain control. Don't hesitate to use Fireball to remove dudes. At 6 mana, Fireball w/Flamewaker on the board probably turns that Highmane into a 2/2.

I am trying to do so and reno is good in freeze mage, you are right, but it is certainly not as good in freeze mage as it is in warrior (since in freeze mage there are a lot of must-have 2-ofs) ... basically half the players are playing with reno-ctrl warrior or reno-fatigue warrior (or a hybrid between two of those) and these mathcups are auto-lose (especially because of reno and justicar), I might as well instaconcede when I see warrior.

Reno Warrior still requires that you hit your curve. Insta-conceding is literally the dumbest and most pointless thing to do in a game like Hearthstone. You only want to play when the matchup is favorable to you? Grow up.

Not in the long run. You don't improve your game by constantly avoiding bad matchups. You do so by learning how to make the most out of unfavorable matchups.

I'm not saying your statement is invalid, but what you are implying is that we need to do away with a whole array of deck archetypes. There are a number of non-interactive decks out there right now, and that's one of the reasons I can only stand to play a dozen or so games of ranked in any given month.

So I'm trying this list with -Jeeves, +Sir Finley, and it seems good. Obviously you want Life Tap from Finley, but there are several hero powers that help you aggro people to death, whereas Shaman power only lets you maybe get a relevant totem.

Tbh it's kind of like playing around Molten Giant vs Handlock used to be. Not hitting the other guy is a suboptimal play. But the possibility that they have that card that fucks you over forces you to make the suboptimal play.

As others have said, this was really the only direction HS could go without infinite power creep. I'm kind of annoyed they're calling the "current" format Standard, but whatever. It works for Magic, so why not copy it lol.

In post 3395, Sudo_Nym wrote:Thaurissan is BRM, though, so that'll rotate out. I don't know if the Combo is broken in the absolute, but it is by far Druid's best wincon.

No, it wont (until 2017):
Release the Kraken!
Standard format will arrive this spring! When the momentous moment arrives, you’ll be able to build Standard decks using the following sets:

Basic
Classic
Blackrock Mountain
The Grand Tournament
The League of Explorers
The Spring 2016 Expansion

I don't want to see the combo disappear, but that's because Druid has always been my favorite class/deck to play (other than maybe Anyfin, even though it's not that good and will likely die after rotation).

It's in the FAQ on the announcement page:
How will random effects work in Standard?
Random effects (including summoning random minions or cards, the Discover mechanic, transformations, or any other similar effects) will only summon cards that are eligible for the format you are playing. Thus, random effects in Standard will summon only cards that would be usable in the Standard format. All cards are legal in Wild format, so such effects will function as they always have.

Getting a GvG pack after an Arena run just feels so worthless now.

I've gotten the Tavern Brawl quest twice this week. If anyone is looking for something fun and different to play, which is also highly successful and just ruins everyone else's day, Reno Priest is amazing right now.

I'm still going with "let's see what the new set brings and what gets nerfed."

Yeah I brawl when I feel like just playing a silly game with no repercussions whatsoever. Tavern Brawls are kind of the ARAM of Hearthstone, and there's nothing wrong with people playing silly formats without taking the game seriously.

Eh I'm not quite good enough at arena to freeroll, so I've avoided it as I save up gold for new set.

Fire up tavern brawl.
Opponent instantly concedes.
Open pack.
Get legendary!

gaiz im rly gud @ hrfstoen

EDIT: This has happened 3 times now, each time my opponent was Rafaam. And then I got a game as Rafaam and I got eviscerated. I assume this brawl is just horrendously unbalanced?

Just went 3-3 with what I'm pretty sure should have been at least a 6 win arena deck.

So the app is totally busted on iPhone. Crashed every 2-4 packs I tried to open.

Only legendaries were Boogeyman and Cho'gall. FeelsBadMan

Edit: not salty about the legendaries. My luck has been well above average in the past. But spending my entire thirty minute break re-opening the app and going through that intro to Standard bs AFTER EVERY SINGLE CRASH was the most irritating thing ever.

Ok so I have 9k dust saved. What craft?

Of the classic cards the only one I'd consider is Baron Geddon.

Of the new stuff, I have newHogger, Cho'Gall, Shifter Zerus, and Boogeymonster.

Well this week's Tavern Brawl is dumb.

11-1 with Target Dummy / Bolster, the 1 loss being a time I drew 9 TDs and no Bolster.

Nah, on NA.

But if anyone already on my friends list wants some gold, shoot me a message on battle net. I have to issue the challenge, and neither player can concede, but I think those are the only two restrictions.

Yeah, there's always one deck that's "if you max out your curve, you should have a good shot of winning nearly any matchup," and right now that's definitely Beast Druid.

(EDIT: And with Innervate being a thing, that is particularly devastating when Druids can do so.)

My list has varied, but it's pretty close. I've toyed with Fandral, as well as with Curator/Azure/Finley.

-1 Savage Roar, +1 Fandral is what I would suggest. I've rarely (if ever?) wanted two Savage Roars, and often times don't even need the first.

RNG can suck a cock.

8 games of Shaman so far today, and I haven't seen a Tunnel Trogg in my opening hand yet (with very aggressive mulliganing).
